    For hard use of the many functions of the gg b100 mudmaster, I am glad that the battery is not solar and can be replaced by its owner to keep it charged to a comfortable level.
    There is 'no free lunch' and everything has its cost and payout; it is a wise user that knows how to keep their watch nourished and charged up. It is known as 'User Controlled'. :)

      Pinned my friend.... "User Controlled" now that's the nail hit square one... some say to me, I don't ride fast bikes because it'll kill me... and this is because??? you have no control with the user LML :-P
      No free lunch was the other, and that's just true... I feel my video shows how it is between them, if you abuse the functions, the battery will continue, and if you need those functions over a few weeks, then the GG-B100 is the stronger for duration... of course solar keeps a check on the battery, but you need that 'User Control" side :-P

    I was super surprised by how efficient the GGB100 is. I’m used to using all functions from my rangeman and PRW60. Only changed the battery once from the factory battery just to be sure, and it’s still not low.
    The PRW60 is fast at solar charging but my GWB5600 is slower, like the original rangeman. GWB5600 pairs perfectly with the GGB100 with its multiband reception and both work with app. I take both on trips and the time sync is perfect.

      If you had a full adventure ahead over a few weeks, and needed the compass to be used everyday over a day, then battery only will have this reserve, and to me that's the more focussed for being a tool watch... solar is nice, but if you're heavy user then it doesn't take long to dry the battery down to 'M'

    In the end, nothing is more important than your own experience. And of course it depends on which type you are, how often and how long you wear a solar watch, where you keep it, and so on. I haven't regretted any of my solar watches yet, but I also think it's good that you have a choice when buying it. I like the video very much.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +1

      You nailed it, having the choice :)) We are spilt today, but my video was simply to show how these compare when abused, as if you want an ABC G-Shock over a few weeks to be used heavily, then the GG-B100 would perform better... over a longer duration, then solar is more independent to last for 15yrs plus.
      Cheers for your side my friend, you always have good comments :)))

So no problem at all.

      A very good point, and it should be noted and not universally understood is that g-shocks are powered by a capacitor which is powered by the battery. Storing g-shocks in darkness was meant only from factory to consumer. Having a battery and its capacitor drained is not good battery or capacitor maintenance. There is a difference between reality and pure marketing.

    Your videos really are getting better and better! This Nintendo-Minecraft-mashup is a top notch production - kudos to you, sir!
    While I don't have a GG-B100 and therefore can't say anything about it, I haven't yet reached low battery with my GWG's - not even the one I got in 2017.
    And this is with having the barometric pressure displayed all the time (together with the date). IIRC it measures pressure every two hours or so.
    I don't use auto-backlight, though, and practically never activate an alarm (as they aren't terribly loud anyway).
    The solar & atomic time functionality in fact works so well on the GWG that I consider buying an LCW-M170TD-7AER as a low-profile watch with a white dial. But this would be a watch not really meant for partying, anyway... ;-)

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +2

      Hey my friend, thank you for your great comment :)
      If using solar watches to the instructions daily allowance, then it'll be healthy and won't keep you in the dark, this video was more towards pushing the watch everyday using the functions more than stated in the manual... the compass is a big drain, as it has the biggest copper coil, then MB6 comes a close second... the Barometric sensor really uses little power, and the SMD LED backlights should be better these days with using less power. A huge majority don't use these ABC watches as intended, and worn in perfect condition and treated lightly, but if you venture out for a few days using the compass heavily for those days, it will drain the battery faster than the solar can manage.... I see the ProTreks get the real use the most, as those who buy them aren't for the looks so much, they want it as a tool :)
      Anyway, there is no rules to how to use any watch, this was just to show how the GG-B100 performs... it's just a battery at the end of the battery life... but am sure you could replace the battery in the GWG-1000 with more mAh and unplug the solar side to give you the same. The module on the GG-B100 uses the latest ABC tech, so will draw less power, thus why it has 2yrs... but if it's not used each day, then could see 3yrs???
      Cheers :))

    • @oldguy9051
      @oldguy9051 3 года назад +2

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman What you say about the ProTreks is probably very true. The more massive G-Shocks are either bought to withstand mechanical stress by people used to dire situations or the occasional bump by users like myself (I'm especially prone to hit swinging doors with my arms/wrists LOL). Or they are bought for looks only - something the slightly more "subtle" ProTreks don't provide as much.
      Your comment about disconnecting the solar cell is interesting, too.
      The coin cell in the GWG is a "CTL1616F". Which means it is 16 mm in diameter and 1.6 mm thick. I've read that it is rated at 18 mAh which isn't really that much. I'd guess it would explain the relatively short closed drawer life of six(?) months.
      Mechanically, you could replace this cell with a "CR1616" which has a rating of 55 mAh -- mathematically three times as much capacity.
      But there is the usual voltage difference between rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteris: The CTL1616F is rated at about 2.4v (2 x 1.2v), while the CR1616 is rated at 3.0v (2 x 1.5v). I don't know if the difference in voltage between these two battery types is enough to cause problems, but even if I doubt it one should know about it (I can't be held accountable for people experimenting with this! ;-)).
      What I also don't know is if this voltage difference has any consequence on the capacity or if the ratings stay the same. If the latter is the case the non-rechargeable battery would theoretically last three times as long as the rechargeable one w/o solar charging. Theoretically...

      I've not gone into the voltage side, so thank you for sharing this side also, as for the module, it may have a voltage from 2.5v to 3v?? On most appliances here in the UK they rate it from 220v to 240v so covers the European side at they use 220v
      It would be a pointless test, and you've paid for that solar side, so it's better just to get the GG-B100 when you need a lot of ABC at once. Over a longer duration then solar is more practical, as you won't need to replace the battery in 15-20yrs? but you still have to monitor the level keeping it charged... just changing the side, on my kinetic SEIKO's I own, keeping them topped up is nothing but hassle, unless you wear it often, and as I don't they're mostly on double ticking or stopped, and getting them topped up with their 6 month reserve isn't possible, have even tried charging my SEIKO SUN0021 in my washing machine, and it failed LML :-P

    Love the video. Nice to have something light hearted to shake things up a bit. But I personally must admit to being a Tough Solar snob. In my defense, the whole reason that I got into Casios was because I got fed up with charging my Apple Watch daily. Just done with daily charging and I have been pleasantly surprised how efficient the Tough Solar watches are with power. Likely doesn’t hurt that I live in sunny Florida. Anyway, never hurts to have a little fun.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +2

      Solar watches if kept charged are very easy to live with, and not worry about cables... and if you have Florida sunshine, be careful not to glaze the solar panel, not so much on analog G-Shock dials, but the solar panel does turn with a ghost effect, and this is more because of too much direct sunshine... how much abuse, I can't say, but have bought a few older solar G-Shocks that have this ghost solar edge. As the solar is attached to the crystal, it's not a matter of just replacing the solar panels... don't worry too much to what I've said, as this is more towards those who just cook their solar watches in sunshine all the time.
      Cheers for the feedback, lighthearted for sure :))

    I think both solar and normal battery powered have their advantages.
    If it's timekeeping only, then it doesn't use all that much power and because there is less mainboard needed for all the electrics, you can put in a bigger battery that will last even longer and you can enjoy several years without removing the backplate.
    If it's more than timekeeping (MB6/sensors), you need room for the antenna and the sensor and also a little extra to deal with all the data that has to be worked with, and you need some room for the solar panels and the connection to the movement. A charging cirquit is also needed. Then you fill up the remaining area with battery, that can't be too big (and it doesn't need to be), but you can charge it every day, and it's not likely you will drain it faster than you charge it.
    On an assumption that both watches have an equal volume for the movement + battery, there are a quite some arguments pro and con, especially if it's time only watches.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +3

      Great reply my friend and all very true... this was based upon an abusive amount of use in a short time scale, say if you needed the compass for a week, and using it like a compass, then after a few days, the solar battery will feel this pinch... I want to make a test, pressing the compass every 30 mins over some days and see when the GWG-1000 hit's M or L... the GG-B100 also uses the more modern low power modules and sensors, thus why I believe the battery is more suited, and the GG-B100 battery has more volume and more milliamps. As you mentioned, they both have a good and ugly side, so it's down to how you use them, and what you need the most.
      Enjoy the weekend my friend and thanks again for your input :))

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад

      The good part of replacing a battery more often is to check the gasket, and for the small cost, worth replacing, then you'll have real piece of mind :)) Now this video is when a watch is abused over a short time, this isn't over a few years... I just wanted to show how the battery watch compares, and why CASIO used battery only instead of solar... if you're not a heavy user, then solar all the way... if you demand more features over a week lets say, the solar will run low on battery, and continuing with use will leave the battery struggling to fully charge. So it's down to that side the most... hope that makes sense... cheers :)

      Hey again my friend... yes I got you... with the Barometric sensor this works on air pressure, and when it's working with the Barometer, this is more accurate over measuring altitude... the air pressure changes and you'll get a false reading of altitude, and it only works when the air pressure is stable, but when climbing say in the Alps and the weather changes and becomes enclosed, then the reading is going to be inaccurate. The GPS (Geo Position System) just locates your location and uses the Geo data to give your altitude, so will therefor be constantly accurate... but this only works if there's Geo data available. If I need altitude then GPS is left one... in fact when I use my GPR-B1000 I leave the GPS running, as collection point memos is faster this way.
      I've probably repeated myself, but wanted to make sure I've covered the most import side.
      Cheers :)

    In April I got a G2310R-1. When I got it its power supply indicator showed medium. It's been on the windowsill all day long every day for 3 months, and it still shows medium. It's not ever going to click over to high, is it?

      Hey buddy... am just replying to a few messages, and seen yours needs an answer, so hopefully I'm not too late???
      The G-2310 was released back in 2001, so the battery is on 20yrs old, so if on medium, then it's doing well :)
      You might've hit the High by now, but if not, then maybe consider a new rechargeable battery, as 3 months on the window and not at full tells me the battery is struggling. Now I've not used one of these, but am wondering if it has a test screen where you check the solar side is working?? I won't right too much, but if you're still struggling then write back... cheers :)

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman Thanks a lot for the reply. Still on medium. I'll look into the test screen. Some other people have told me that it makes a huge difference that the window is closed. So I'm trying to find a way that I can actually leave the watch outdoors. (I'm not a really big outdoorsy type, in fact I'm closer to agoraphobic.) Also, the watch has been functioning perfectly, so I'm also trying not to worry about it so much. Good mental training, that, I think. Again, many thanks for the reply. I enjoy helping, thus why I am replying to your need, as I know how to help mostly :))
      Ok, the opening of the window tickled me, as solar isn't effected with a breeze, it's about light absorption, I did make a video about solar charging, maybe that would help further, as I show the differences with artificial lighting and natural lighting.
      The ideal place for a solar watch is near a window, but not in the direct sunlight, maybe they meant the breeze is there is cool the watch when left directly in sunshine, but really, near a window is enough. Now if it's still not on HIGH after 3 now 5 months, then there could be two sides to why, and saying the solar side isn't working could be a possibility, but as your watch is still running on medium, I'd guess that side is fine... now the battery is the other factor, and usually rechargeable lithium batteries life cycle is around 15 - 20yrs, some can go further, but what a rechargeable lithium battery doesn't like, is running to LOW, and this can damage the battery if left in that state for a time.
      Good point, is these batteries aren't expensive, and are easy to fit, basically it'll be like changing a regular battery.
      Battery needed for your G-Shock would be the CTL1616 which are about £12 on eBay.
      The battery cells do deteriorate, so maybe a few cells are down, thus why it can't fully charge... if it does have a test screen and you can find SLR, then you'll see if that side is working... usually you point it to light and you'll have 888 displayed, maybe 8888???
      Hope that helps further my friend, and thank you for your support and feedback :))

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman First of all, I really appreciate your help so much. You're a mensch.
      The watch we're dealing with here is a G2310R, which is a 2009 upgrade of the original G2310. And... they do sometimes keep manufacturing them later than the launch date, don't they? But maybe you were just joking about the age of the watch. (I'm autistic, sometimes I have trouble knowing whether people are joking or speaking literally.)
      The power indicator is still on medium. The watch has been functioning perfectly this whole time, as far as I can tell, except for that indicator.
      Today, I went to the test screen. If I read the test screen correctly (and if the test screen is functioning properly), the battery is on high. If that's the case, then the only thing which seems to be malfunctioning is the power reserve indicator when it's not on the test screen: shows high on the test screen, medium otherwise. I can live with a malfunctioning power reserve indicator, especially if I can check the real power level by going to the test screen.

    Hi again!
    Maybe this is another noob question, but: Is it safe to press the buttons of a g-shock while it is under water?
    Thank you, o-wise-one!

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад

      Hey buddy... I've been asked this a few times, but it is a great question :))
      First off, why would anyone need to press buttons underwater? Well this could be for a few reasons, one being because it can, the other is that you need a function from the watch... so for an example, if you're timing your swimming lengths, then this would be a good reason, and being that you're not at any concerning depth, then these G-Shocks are ok for this. Now if your snorkelling and take a dive say to 3mtrs, and you hit the bottom where rocks are laying, and the watch knocked against them pushing a button, then this is probably still ok, it's when the depth increases and you're using the watch on a free dive, or air diving, then this is an area that G-Shocks aren't tested to, and CASIO do recommend not to push buttons. It could also be that every G-Shock being 200m is capable of that water pressure, but there's a limit to when a button press will fail. If bubbles expel when pushing, then this is air in the watch escaping, but once the air bubbles stop, then water is very likely to enter the watch, as to what depth, that's now down to a guess, but would imagine anything over 25mtrs.
      Now there are two G-Shocks that are designed for button presses while at depth... the Frogman using the GWF-D1000 as the example, as this is a true Diver's rated G-Shock, that uses a depth sensor, it also has functions that can be operated underwater like the compass, temp and REC, and this is for a maximum depth of 80mtrs. The other G-Shock is the GWN-Q1000 Gulfmaster, which also has a depth sensor and this can be operated underwater to a maximum of 50mtrs.
      In general, if a G-Shock is wet, pushing buttons isn't an issue, underwater at 1mtr this is also not an issue, but taking it further, there isn't a reason why buttons should be used as mentioned.
      CASIO do state not to press underwater, in my experience I don't unless it's either the Frogman or Gulfmaster.
      Can I ask what you'd want to press a button underwater??
      Cheers :))

      Thank you mister Rangeman for the standard length reply. Informative and positive, as usual (notice that I am not saying as always, because I have observed you being human at times and having some sort of negative reaction towards something).
      I am glad that I have been promoted to “buddy”. This makes me feel that we could grab a beer some time, even though I don’t really drink beer and even though I don’t live in London anymore (but I did for many years).
      Now, back to the topic. You ask me why would I press buttons under water. Well, your examples are quite perfect (because it is possible to do so, while timing a lap, or accidentally touching surfaces), but also, why does a child play in the bath tub with a toy? Because they can’t help themselves (which is an ever so slightly different reason from “because they can”). In the words of “Dee-Dee” from the cartoon “Dexter”: “What does this button do?”
      Now, since I am here, I will also include a small comment to this video. Up to this point I have agreed with you on everything, but this time I will have to argue (even though I feel that you made this video partly for me as I do own a GG-B100, plus I have asked you about tough solar).
      My comment is this: Mister Rangeman, always remember that children don’t do what their parents tell them to do, they do what they see their parents doing, and you, Mister Rangeman, own 7 solar powered watches ;)

      Now there's alway good and bad in everything, and I work around this side, making it work better for me than fighting it, and if it was that bad, then I would flip it :-P
      You're like me "just love pushing buttons" well I've done it many many times and have never had issues with G-Shocks, some say they do, but that's a very low amount, which isn't even a percentage compared to the alignment issues with SEIKO for example LML :-P

      GLX-5600 G-LIDE
      GG-B100 Mudmaster
      (GW-9400 Rangeman) not used and is in the stages of being modded further)
      So you are correct, I do own 7 solar G-Shocks LML :-P Some think I own at least 50 G-Shocks, but I don't, I really don't need the GWG-1000 as my Gulfmaster does all I need and more, so have that one manly because many of my viewers said I should... so that's now one of my G-Shocks for the tougher side... I still have to add, that the G-9300 is the most practical designed G-Shock for anything, I like the fact that the buttons don't get pushed unless I want to push them LML :-P
      To be honest, unless you really are crazy, you shouldn't be able to break a G-Shock, and at the best of it, if it has broken, then it has saved you from harm :))

    A part of the equation not fully examined is whether a watch in question is part of a collection of many watches or a primary watch with no secondary watch available.
    Up until a more recent part of my watch use, my watch use consisted of using one primary watch. My most used watches before my g-shock use, were a marathon jsar (quartz) and lum-tec b1 combat (6498-1) hand wind movement.
    As watch technology changed, the more advanced microelectronic watches began to become more available at a more reasonable price and on my wrist. The choice today of a primary watch should factor in reliability and how the user defines and understands limits.

      It's very much down to planning, so keeping a check when you last replaced the battery will be enough indication, and if you're not sure, then for £1.50 I'd just replace the battery and re-silicon the gasket or replace.
      If you're not a heavy user with the ABC side, then the solar will keep the battery topped us, this video is more about being abusive with the ABC side.
      Lets say, you have a planned adventure that's over a week, and everyday you'll be using the GG-B100 for the compass, as the one you brought has gone missing. In all my compass and mapping times, the compass is used many times, and could be used every ten minutes, so that's 6 minutes an hour, multiply that over say 6hrs and repeat that over a week, will a solar ABC watch keep you going, and if cloudy for that time, then you really are slowing the charging times, so for me, the GG-B100 was produced for the more serious users... it's light like a ProTrek and as the battery is larger can cope with more ABC use in one go over a shorter time... over a longer time with less use, the solar will of course be the better choice.
      My GW-9400 did hit 'M' a few good times, but it also charges well on a nice sunny day... it's when the clouds cover the skies is when you notice the charging times increase.
      The GG-B100 also uses less power hungry components and the sensors are also improved... the bluetooth uses hardly any power, so to me is a good build from CASIO. I understand why many prefer the solar side, but when in the field and depending on it because you have no choice, then that's when you realise how important these ABC watches can be.
      The most important thing from this, is having plenty of water and food, as we aren't solar powered... yet LML :-P

      I've had my GWG-1000 on 'M' twice, but have to say, it does charge quickly when the sun is out :) but I don't use it that heavy compared to my GG-B100, that gets abused!
      I feel if I did this over a week, the GWG-1000 would be on 'L' and that's a reason for such a video, to share the differences when abused... we all use our watches differently, and each test can go in multiple of million of ways :-P

    Great explanation. But there is a but ;), everyone knows, you know that solar G’s can be in the dark for a loooooong time before it’s dead. Let’s say 6 months. And in that 6 months you will feed him with sunlight for sure

    • @artemisXsidecross
      @artemisXsidecross 3 года назад

      That may be true for new manufactured watches before shipment, but degrading a battery's charge repeatedly degrades the battery and shortens it useful lifespan. To keep a solar battery charged watch at its best potential it should NOT be stored in the dark. As a side note, a solar g-shock is powered by its capacitor which which is fed electrical energy by the battery.

      @@artemisXsidecross 15 to almost 20 years is a lifespan of a solar rechargeable battery. Have one for 10 years now and it’s all good for now. 2 to 3 years for non solar ABC watch. So, even though the solar battery is maybe 5 times more expensive (that’s the only flaw), when you calculate you end up in the same place.

      @@Pimpi1980g I agree, my g-shock 9400 rangeman is near 10 years old and battery still reads 'High'. But the g-shock ggb100 with a 2025 replaceable battery would be a first choice for adventurous use.
      I previously used a suunto core and changed its battery way before it signaled 'low battery' and was never concerned about it losing power.
      I like the choice g-shock offers with an easy to find replaceable battery for hard use and where sunlight might not be sufficient for extended use. :)

    Running out of battery in the wilderness without any replacement battery is a nightmare especially when you needed to be somewhere at the right place at the right time like a drop point full of food & medical aid or to pick you up to the nearest hospital - just saying

      Hey buddy, cheers for your comment :)
      This video is based upon when being heavy with the functions in a short amount of time.
      So if you're on a adventure over a week or so, and use the compass like you would normally do, then battery only will support this down to the fact that the battery used, has more power... solar batteries are limited to their usage because rechargeable lithium batteries need space within the battery to move while charging is in process.... a regular lithium battery starts life completely full at 100%. Of course over a longer period with less heavy use, the solar will out perform... but to be honest, a stand alone compass will beat them both, and should be the choice to have with you anyway, I wouldn't rely upon electrical only, I would always carry a compass, not an oil filled one, as these can break. There is many scenarios, but I just used the one with continuous usage.
      I would like to make a test, using the compass every 30mins over an 8hr period and continue till one watch stops performing.
      Now one of my subscribers said, why can't solar ABC watches have the ability to charge using an external charger like what the GPR-B1000 has? I feel this would make the solar ABC watch unstoppable. I had a ProTrek PR-40 which used four batteries, and that lasted well with all the ABC side being used heavily, and compared to the solar version, you do notice the difference, and it doesn't take long till 'M' is displayed, and if cloudy days ahead, then it's not charging to its maximum.
      It's all down to how you use the ABC, if you're not a heavy user, then you have no concerns, thus solar is the better choice, if going for a two full on adventure, then battery only will carry better... and this is the reason why the GG-B100 was made, for those who need the ABC longer over a shorter time.
      From the start, being prepared is the most important, and to be able to rely upon your own skills than just a watch. Just never get yourself in such situations, just go to your limits and not chance beyond that, as it can turn very nasty quickly, and just a few hours being lost feels like a few days.
      It's an interesting topic for sure, and one that can be discussed, but debating, well that's upon each occasion which are always different, so you can never be enough prepared, but dry socks is a must :-P
      Cheers!

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman what if one were lost in a cave & need a backlit check often , which drain battery the most between lcd backlight like the mudman gw9300 & the led backlight of the rangeman gw9400 ? compass mode last 1 minutes per use while backlight last 1.5 second to 3 second per use , which function are more power hungry , is it compass or the backlight ? 🤔hmm

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +1

      @@jijoious It depends on the battery size the most, the GG-B100 does pack a big battery, plus it has the latest sensors and a SMD LED backlight, and these draw little amps... the backlight on the 9300 is a panel that sits behind the LCD, I can't imagine that draws too much battery, but G-Shock have seemed to move to the LED's more and more.
      The biggest drain on G-Shocks...
      1. Compass
      2. Alarm
      3. Atomic Sync
      4. Backlight
      5. Stopwatch/Timer
      The compass is one of the biggest, as it uses a copper coil, and that's one reason why it only runs for 60secs... the G-9300 runs for much less at 20secs, so shows the difference in sensor battery usage.
      If you're on a long hike, then a separate compass is a must, and only use the watch as backup. When the backlight is operated while the compass is working, you'll notice the compass will stop while the backlight is on, so can be fun while using in the dark, in fact it's not great... unless you've lumed the backing of the LCD like I've done on my GW-9400... there is a video on that :-P

      Hey buddy... this is more based upon being abusive with them both... of course the GWG will have the edge with solar, but for a short term using the ABC everyday in a heavy way, the GG-B100 will be the better... this isn't over a long duration. It's just to give those who think the GG-B100 isn't a good watch because it's not solar, it was made for a reason, to be abused.
