If you have any questions about the film, just leave a comment and I will answer it in a separate video. Story, Locations, Equipment, struggles.. anything ;)
The image is great. Very tastefull. You might argue that it is a bit too cinematic for a documentary. But why not going this way! The content though is very predictable and conventional. We all heard that kind of stories hundreds of times. Nevertheless still very nice.
I’m embarrassed now I charge money for my crappy interviews and short docs for government and government funded organisations. They say my vids are good but Jesus I wish I was half as good as you guys, amazing short doco, great story and visuals.
Certainly, each person fights a battle that we know nothing about, delighted to hear Belinda's Story, which I suppose is also something of yours, I loved the video, I wish you great hits 🙂 (sorry for my English)
Beautiful. Everything about this video was beautiful. Some of those shots of Belinda skating were so smooth and fluid. I could feel the speed. Thanks to everyone involved.
This is a superb film, about a strong woman with a brilliant personality. First view was supposed to be all about filming techniques... I found myself trapped into the narration and story. Had to watch it two extra times ! Bravo.
I see why you want to submit this to festivals. Beautiful work, wonderful story. My question surrounds sound design: specifically, Foley. Or did you manage to capture the skating sounds as you shot without capturing your/ her skates as well?
It is my hope to do something great with my C70. This is just great beautiful footage, beautiful story, and emotional value with mood setting music... just a good story and I hope the best for you and her.
Bel and your journey have inspired me in both filmmaking and figure skating filmmaking. This documentary is so real and special. Thank you for sharing. I'd love to learn more about how Bel controls the gimbal to maneuver it to focus on the skater. The gimbal seems to have a mind of its own. Does she use the joystick? And any comparison between using a gimbal and a glide cam for ice skating filmmaking? I'd love to go into the wild and film ice skating one day too.
Simple piece of advice: don't come to this channel trying to be like DC. The amount of effort, time, and sacrifice he puts into his craft is incredible, hence the final product you see...so come for the inspiration and leave with gratitude...
really loved all of it the interview frame and looks is so good and audio is clean , would love to know how you got that clean audio and lens used on it ? really appreciated
THIS is the reason I want to be a filmmaker. The way you told this story is just amazing. I loved every single piece of it. Thank you very much for making it and sharing it. As a fellow Canon user I feel I will need to watch this story many many times.
It is a genuine masterpiece. Very inspiring, cinematic kind, not boring stuff, emotional. Congratulations, Damian! It will be my inspiring example, of how to shot a documentary. The music is awesome, too. Good luck!
This was not a video, it was a movie! The cinematography was beautiful, top down shot in the snow was epic and in the perfect moment! There is something special about filing on the ice 🧊, the camera movement is so satisfying. I follow the story on the Chanel, and when Damien was introduced to the story it felt surprising, but authentic, it’s a movie about the living on the “edge”. About Life worth living! But also story about love. The love of making life together. Together in the hardest hardships of all, the searching for meaning in the life that was once broken. Only one thing was bothering me the hole time:-), the position of the talent in the interview scene. It was way to left and the lines was distracting, for me however. I felt that should be framed in the doorway as frame in frame for depth. As the depth for her search in her soul. As the abyss of her past. And thank you sharing🙏🏻
Very nicely done. As primarily a music and sound production guy these days, I'm less interested in the video side than I was a couple of years ago, but when you come across a real story like this, one that's told with such sensitivity, honestly and warmth, it inspires me to return to film making. Also, filming on ice looks so good...I wish I could skate now too!... And had some ice to skate on! Lol. Really enjoyed this production, and you should both be proud out of it. Well done.
The back ground looks compressed and it makes for an amazing image! What lenses focal length did you use for the interview? Also, sorry about the whole premiere use non 4K issue! That sucks but it will translate into 4K or whatever resolution you uploaded afterwards… so we can all watch it later in 4K.
Great Short film, I would love to do this stuff. My question is how do you make money from this? Where's the financial return in all this? Or is it purely a love piece?
Great job. Very moving and inspirational. It’s cool to see you both doing what you love. If I could offer any thoughts on production, I would say that the dialogue was perhaps too compressed and too pushed for my taste. The tight compression and loudness (for these I shoot for an LUFS of around -16DB) led to several moments where the dialogue came in so abrupt it was a bit jarring. - my too cents. Wonderful work, Damien!
This is incredible bravo! Definitely hit my emotions in a good way 🥲 I love that you shared her story, definitely can relate to being lost in life. Was this year long project?
Das Filmemachen hat schon vielen das Leben gerettet. Hört man immer wieder ;-) Darüber hinaus: Sehr schöne Doku, bei der man auch bis zum Schluss dranbleibt und nicht gleich wegklickt!
AMAZING JOB! Loved not only the awesome cinematography but also the storytelling aspect of this film. I would love to create something awesome like this one day with such a great story!:) Again love your videos and can’t wait to see more of what you guys create!
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Incredible work on the visuals both of you! I love this format and it is inspiring to the vision that I am building this coming year. Such a compelling story and the perfect way to tell it! Crisp, Clean perfection. Can’t wait for the next one. Sound design, artistry in motion and no detail overlooked. I could keep going but I think you get the point! ❤️🤘
Very impressive - and worth the waiting for! It's also inspiring for someone, who hasn't a straightforward CV as well. Please keep going with that kind of content!
Gratuliere Damien! Tolles Intro - dokumentarisch super umgesetzt. Die Speed Ramps in den EislaufSzenen waren sehr passend. Mir hat das Colorgrading richtig gut gefallen und Belindas Emotionen hast du überzeugend rübergebracht. Kannst stolz sein auf deine Arbeit!
If you have any questions about the film, just leave a comment and I will answer it in a separate video. Story, Locations, Equipment, struggles.. anything ;)
How long was her journey once she combined the 2 passions ??
I love the synergy between the 2 - it's a force multiplier - strong woman 👍👍
wondering how you make the questions list. the way she tell the story is very touching.
Seriously cool. Congratulations guys !
Beautiful Loved it!!
That was really well done. Nice work.
The image is great. Very tastefull. You might argue that it is a bit too cinematic for a documentary. But why not going this way! The content though is very predictable and conventional. We all heard that kind of stories hundreds of times. Nevertheless still very nice.
Beautiful shots and a wonderful story. Great job Damien. Subbed.

Haha, don't be. If the client is happy that's great! And there's always room for improvement!
Welcome home again Belle, welcome home.

Wow! What a documentary, what a story, what beautiful scenes 🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Fantastic job 🙏🫶🏻
Really nice Damien. The pacing on this is just perfect. It breathes beautifully.
A tremendously inspiring story told through Amazing videography and Exceptional photography. Thank you for the emotions!!!
Beautiful. Everything about this video was beautiful. Some of those shots of Belinda skating were so smooth and fluid. I could feel the speed. Thanks to everyone involved.
I've watched the product reviews and they were useful. This is something special. Do this.
the interview shot looks epic! can't wait to see the whole thing
thanks. Yeah, the location was amazing
Great message.
This is a superb film, about a strong woman with a brilliant personality.
First view was supposed to be all about filming techniques... I found myself trapped into the narration and story. Had to watch it two extra times !
Bravo.
Should I pull the trigger on the C70 in 2023? Im heavy into RF glass as a photographer first.
I see why you want to submit this to festivals. Beautiful work, wonderful story.

2:23 I really like this angle. It gave a good perspective. Could you make more of this plz
Very impressive DC, Thank you for uploading this video. I know you and the team worked really hard on this project! and it paid off!

Did you have to pay to license the footage from the TV station that was broadcasting the skating competition?
Beautiful images, and such an inspiring story, thank you for sharing.
This was something special. Great job man. I truly felt something watching that
What a lovely, uplifting story and a beautiful film.
Great film. I loved it. Thank you for being so brave in telling this story.
Epic docu, shows that I still have a lot to learn. Can you show and explain how you did the interview? Those shots look really good
Nice would like to know your lighting choices for the interview portion.
Beautiful film, congratulations!
Awesome film, Belinda and Damien!!! Wow!

Good question. I will do a full breakdown of just the interview setup next week. Lenses, light, cameras, audio..
Amazing, cinematic, nice camera movement, editing and good strong storytelling. Well done DC.
Thanks so much for the kind words :)
Mega Damien. Sehr sehr schöne Doku!
in your LUTS do you have the Standard 709 or it works only for Raw videos?
Standard rec709
Good work!
Bravo! Great work!
well made, awesome wee film.
Watching this brilliant documentary shows the transition from the passion of skating to the passion of filmmaking.❤
Bring tears to my eyes. I've been there as a reggae musician. I can relate!! Thank you for this video! Touch me deeply
Dieses Interview Set Up! Wow
Damien Bro.. One of the best short doc I have ever seen.. Being a documentary filmmaker I could not connect more.. Good job.. 🙌
Wich lenses?
Fantastic 👏
Wow dude!!!
Sehr gut gemacht, gefällt mir! ❤😊
Great Short film, I would love to do this stuff. My question is how do you make money from this? Where's the financial return in all this? Or is it purely a love piece?
For me it’s RUclips and portfolio work. The plan is to be able to have these and the bts videos I create around them make their money back on RUclips
@@damiencooper I would love to know based on subscribers & video views what it would generate. Amazing work, keep it up!!!

niceee
This was amazing!
Can you imagine having to give up your dreams.
This is so dang good! Absolutely stunning pictures, the story, your (ex)girl...crazy good in all kind of discipline.
Nice interview setup - did you intentionally make it this wide? I wonder why you didn't make any closeup to see more emotions in her :)
there is two close ups in there :D And there's also a full breakdown of the interview on my channel
@@damiencooper I think what you call closeup I call medium closeup. Nice work anyway, don't get me wrong! Cheers.
Which lenses did you use on the 3 interview angles?
Canon should sponsor you. This film has more meaning than ordinary commercials
So cool!!! Are the main interview shots c300 II?
2x C70 and 1X C300III. The C300III was actually the C cam. I will upload a full interview breakdown next week
@@damiencooper Awesome!! Amazing Content bro!! tks
Had me gripped for all 12 mins. A nice short doc. A well made story, compellingly told. Well done (both).
