Historic charm meets contemporary luxury in this turn-of-the-century single-family townhouse in Fort Greene. A captivating Greek Revival façade with Corinthian columns belies warm and inviting interiors with designer stylings, modern infrastructure, and wondrous surprises throughout.
The home begins with a deep front yard with irrigated brick planters, lush landscaping, and a veranda with a built-in bicycle rack. The garden floor has a welcoming entryway with a powder room and windowed mudroom with radiant heated flooring, built-in bench seating, shoe cubbies, coat racks, and additional storage.
Past an elegant pocket door, a sun-splashed media room features a wall of custom built-ins, a wet bar with Calacutta viola marble countertops and filtered water, and a glass wall with French doors that open out into a multi-level irrigated backyard with a Blue-stone patio and verdant lawn along with automatic lighting throughout. Just off the media room is a spare bedroom or home office with a built-in bed and workstation and a decorative fireplace framed in marble.
On the parlor floor you will find the main living, dining, and kitchen area. The kitchen overlooks the backyard and leads out onto a grilling deck made of Ipe wood with stairs to the garden. It features stunning Ann Sacks tile and has an oversized eat-in island, stone and butcherblock countertops, custom cabinets, and high-end appliances including a La Cornue range. The open plan living and dining room has a gas fireplace with a carved marble mantel and flows out onto a covered porch with durable Ipe wood floors. Throughout this level is original and custom replicated period crown molding adding the perfect amount of charm.
The upper floors contain four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a laundry room. On the third floor, two bedrooms share an adjoining bathroom with a third bedroom having access to a second full bathroom. The top floor is a serene primary suite with a wood-burning fireplace, dressing room, an office space, and a spa-like en-suite bathroom with radiant heated floors and a separate soaking tub overlooking the backyard.
The basement is completely open and is currently configured as a gym and playroom with built-in jungle gym bars and a rock-climbing wall. There is also a huge storage room. Additional features of the home include owned home solar, central air, hardwood floors, replicated period crown molding, custom millwork, and designer wallpaper from the UK.
295 Cumberland sits on a gorgeous tree-lined street lined with historic townhomes. It is less than two blocks from Fort Greene Park and is moments from dozens of trendy restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops. BAM, Barclays Center, and Downtown Brooklyn are all close by. Accessible subway lines include the 2/3/4/5/C/B/D/G/N/Q/R.

I remember when most of those were illegally subdivided and crack vials scattered the sidewalks.
    Couldn’t give them away.

It's crazy how much the city has cleaned up in the past 40 years. I definitely have nostalgia for the way things used to be priced, but other than that, NYC is a much nicer place to live these days than in the past.
