  • If you have never read a serious graphic novel, please give this masterpiece a look! It is superb in all aspects. The writing is lean and direct. The stories are gripping. The art work will stick with you.
Despite being about the Holocaust, it is not an overly grim book. In fact, it is somewhat hopeful in that it is a great testament to the human spirit. I know you'll enjoy this book.

I read these a long time ago. I was pleased when my son was assigned them in middle school as part of a unit on the Holocaust. I was already a fan of Art Spiegelman's work when these were published, and this just hit me as a brilliant way to treat a deeply disturbing period of 20th century history so that it would be read by a broader audience than would likely look at a more traditional historical treatment.

These graphic novels are among my favorites of all time. The art is amazing and the theme is heartbreaking. I consider Spiegelman a genius of the genre. This is a great suggestion. Currently reading Ulysses and watching your summary videos on that so I appreciate your point of view on these books as well.

Chris Reich I actually read Maus 1 & 2 for a course during my undergrad. It was a requirement, but I loved them so much that I own copies of both. Currently a grad student reading Ulysses for an American and British literature course and many of us watch your videos to get a better understanding. I was introduced to your videos by a classmate and I am glad she shared. What you are doing with this channel is important, and I agree with you, the humanities is what makes us human! Have a great one, and best wishes from Texas. - Alejandra

I think you are going to enjoy the book. It is a quick read and very interesting. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. I am working on a new video but it is complicated for my limited editing abilities!

I blame, credit and thank you, as I am half way through Ulysses in a back to back reading of it, and wondering how I missed so much the first time (after reading it with the assistance of your videos) and would recommend (as a Science Fiction reader) Kindred by Octavia Butler if you haven’t come across it as a wonderful novel (I met the Author who won some American Genius Prize, which allowed her to work as a full time writer and experienced a moment of kindness form her which will always stay with me, but recommend the book independent of that) and thank you
