one of the best! He can play like no other - from his fiddle, guitar, harmonica - you name it and he could play it. Not "just play it"..... He could play the HELL out it!

Great vid of CGMB showing one of his MANY talents. As for the word "colored", it WAS the "polite"non-racist term whites used for blacks waaaaaay back before the National Civil Rights Act in 1963. Was okay then but for sure is not a good usage these days, especially in that blacks as well as whites but other "colors" have done cowboy stuff long before the white American cowboy. Elvis used "colored" in 1956 saying everything he learned was from "colored people" especially Arthur Big Boy Crudup.
I remember the first time I saw Clarance, it was at the Chicago Blue festival, it rained which normally would ruin the event but CGB did his thing. he played the fiddle just like this, everyone was dancin in the rain happy as can be all because of him. I am glad to say I briefly met him at Buddy Guy's bar after he played. He was a great musician, I personally feel one of the best and a very nice man. I miss you Clarence!!!! They don't make um like you no more!!!
Knew Gate personally very lucky to have grown up in a time n a place were all these great men were still alive n playing all so knee Fess Cllifton Chenier Earl Kinng Snooks gtre up with the best good and music in the world love they call me luckey.

@hochayminh Damn Good Thing To!! Personally I couldn't stand it if he was any better than he was. Gate and Roy Clark two guys who could play a brick and make awesome Music!!
@bobbyroy8 I knew him personally and he didn't care about color. As long as you were quiet or clappin while he played he would play for you till his fingers bled
@JefFrietkot Do you realize the Clarence Gatemouth Brown is from Texas? Do you realize that many Texas Cowboys, as well as many of our fine musicians, were black?
@bigw4444 You don't understand what I'm saying. I mean to say nothing negative about Gatemouith. He's fantastic. Got no idea what made you enter this comment.
Yes, although I don't think calling someone a blues artist is downgrading by any means BB, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins etc. All wore that mantle proudly Gate said in interviews many times he didn't like being refered to as such. I may be wrong but I think he used say he played "American music" and he truly was that diverse. Cajun, Zydaco, Blues, Country, Jazz, Gate played it all !!
And all I can say is, So What? Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown was a top-notch musician, singer and songwriter who made sure not to be limited to just any one musical genre, whether it be bluegrass, country, rhythm and blues, Cajun, blues, or a mixture of all of them. I can only envy the lucky/blessed ones who got to see "Gatemouth" live in concert, in person. There you have it.
Very talented multi-instrument player, and bluesman. Masterful. Wish I could have seen him live. One of a kind.
One of the greatest musicians that I ever saw Live was Clarence Gatemouth Brown.
Master Musician. Played every instrument on the stage.
one of the best! He can play like no other - from his fiddle, guitar, harmonica - you name it and he could play it. Not "just play it"..... He could play the HELL out it!
He seemed to make anything he played speak,..very talented, and an amusing presence,..another great artist that I wished I'd seen
He will always be simply amazing. I rember as a kid (i am 56 now) seeing him play with Roy Clark. I was mesmerized. You are right, he ROCKS!!!
My dad, being born in 1924 Southern Texas pioneered this fiddle style. Country is a spin off off of bluegrass. You rock dad!!!!!!! RIP

I love blues, country and jazz very much. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown can do all three of these styles so well. May he rest in peace. Great video.

I think you downgraded Gatemouth by calling him a great blues artist. He's more than that.

He didnt even know how to hold the bow and the violin properly
It is so unfortunate that you never got to tell him.

"Properly" is whatever he does to be able to create this great music. I'm sure you can hold the violin completely perfect but can't play a lick
