  • We have three ball bearing turbochargers for the small frame engine size families - the GTX2563R, This GTX2863R and the larger brother GTX2867R - These turbos are very similar but all serve a totally different purpose in spool, power delivery and application depending on the size and type of engine being turbocharged, or upgraded.
    Enjoy.

    Love your work.
    I think the EFR version is FAR better than the Garret. For reliability, spool and transition.
    Your thoughts?

      Thank you for the compliment - without a doubt you are 100% correct. The latest Garrett product is overrated. Borg is by far superior - see here for a side by side comparison.

    Hi Chris, firstly great video content. I currently have a TD04HL-15G on my Toyota 4age fwd engine which is great but I want similiar if not better spool up which holds better till the redline. Would you recommend this turbo for my car?

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the compliment - im glad to hear you enjoying the channel. The 4AGE is no slouch - it flows similarly if not better than larger 4Cyl engines. Unfortunately the small frame TD04 turbo will not provide high power in the higher RPM range, unless you use the larger AR turbine housing options with larger turbine and compressor trim sizes, BUT this will create lag - you cant have both worlds im afraid.

    Hi thank you for this info
    I am looking for a street turbo that spools early and fast , for a lancer gts 2.0 and i plan to run this turbo with a 272 cam and hp goals of 350-400bhp at 15-17psi of boost and max rpm of 7-8k
    Now my only question is do u recomend this turbo or the gtx2867r or the gtx2871r
    And what A/R housing size?
    Im just lookin for a turbo that will spool early and boost like until 6k rpm or more
    Thank you

      For the Mitsubishi engine lineup - this is where i would look for the power and boost you intend to run -- There are three options in ball bearing and journal bearing available to you.

    What kind of problems am I going to have if I want to use this small unit with a 2.8l 12v VR6? I noticed you said on the 2563 video that such a turbo is too small for a 2.5l engine to make 300hp. I don't really understand this, 30lbs/min is 30lbs/min whether it's going into and coming out of 1.6l or 2.8l. I expect you are going to say the small turbine volute will choke the exhaust, but why would it choke a 2.8l engine at one power level and not a 1.6l engine at the same power level?
    Thanks.

      You will experience issues with heat buildup due to the small AR of the turbine housing if you installed this on such a large engine. The turbine side of the turbocharger small and will spool up very quickly, and due to the small AR of the turbine housing it will not be able to flow what the engine is forcing out the exhaust. The backpressure will be so high that a huge amount of heat will be generated as a result. You will make the power that the compressor offers, but after around 4000-4800rpm the power and torque will fall away drastically and the intake temps will increase. Using the AR64 turbine housing will help alot, but your power will still fall away up top rpm. I would opt for something like the GTX3071R with AR63 turbine housing on this size engine.

      @@vaugr1917 Same result as above for acefighterpilot -- turbo will be really small for this 6 cylinder. You need the GTX3071R

      @@TurboDirectSA Thank you for your thoughtful response. My goal here is really to get a similar torque curve as an OEM: flat from 2000rpm-5500rpm. I recall from your reply to my last comment about turbine housing selection that it's basically too complicated to guesstimate, so your experienced suggestion is the next best thing. Thank you.

      @TurboDirectSA  3 года назад +1

      @@dagger22 Take a look at the compressor map, and you will see that in true BorgWarner fashion the map touches the 54lb/min lines, which relates to a real work 540HP, although it's only claimed to be a 500HP capable turbo. So is the 7163 claimed to be a 550HP capable turbo yet that makes 550WHP on the golf7R platform from personal experience.
      The 6758 will see you to a realistic 500HP no problem at all. This turbo is a beaut because of the great ange of turbine housing AR options available - from the small AR64 (t25/28) up to the AR85 (t25/28) options in T25 flange face, Vband and T4 twin scroll inlet options.

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  2 года назад +1

      @@eyzwh I would opt for a larger turbocharger to be honest, this way you wouldnt need to run the turbo close to its max all the time, this will generate less heat and you will make the power at a lower boost level. If you planning on having a mild setting and a higher setting in terms of boost levels, then the GTX2867R with the AR64 would be the better option.
      You will have to run around 1.5-1.6bar boost to achieve this power, possibly more, depending on the engines condition, supporting hardware, fuel etc.
