as a tech CEO and a doctor, this was actually my favorite launch so far! i love how it increases accessibility to people who may not be tech savvy enough to work apps or platforms, but can operate a phone particularly well, especially older people.
When I was a little kid in the 1960s, in the era of rotary dial phones, I heard my parents talking about "calling information." I assumed it was a service where you called and asked any question and it gave you the answer. I was very disappointed to learn from my parents that the only information they gave you was someone's telephone number. I am very pleased that the service I imagined 60 years ago finally exists.

i can now use it at my workplace landline, I can also use it on my company mobile phone and earpiece, my grandpa who is not good with smartphones can use it too, I only use wifi and no mobile data, but now I can use it use it when I take my walks

The TTS is solid though and I want access to that. That's not available to API users yet.

How 1-800 CHATGPT works: Audio -> Speech To Text (transcription) -> Feeds into hosted code (where OpenAI API is) -> OpenAI responds in text -> Text is converted into speech -(audio file) > audio file is played to user. This all happens in a second. The transcription is probably Whisper. It doesn't seem to be very good at processing phone calls, I hope that it gets better! I don't know if this is possible, but maybe a library full of commonly misunderstood words could be used for training the chatbot. If you want to build your own: 1. Sign up for Twilio for telephony (phone call & sms feature) 2. Use Whisper or sign up for AWS Transcribe (Speech To Text) 3. Sign up for AWS as a Root user. 4. Write Python code, use OpenAI 4o mini for super low cost & low latency. 5. Sign up for AWS Polly (Text To Speech) 6. Customize bot for specific use cases. If you don't know Python, watch a video on the basic of Python, then have ChatGPT write you code. Tell it to help you download all of the necessary components depending on the computer OS you are using. Get users through social media, learn by watching "How To Start A Faceless Instagram". If you watch too many videos or talk about your idea too much, you won't do it, so just take action. If you have a better idea, put it on the side, I'm sure Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos all had better ideas, they still completed their idea. Complete the idea, ship, and then promote it.

Just a few years ago, AI was accessible for enterprise only with the exception of Siri and Alexa, and a few other applications. It is quite remarkable OpenAI is advancing AI access with multi-modal input - text, voice, and video. 2025 is going to be an interesting year.

That way when Margaret calls just to chat, the conversation can pick up where it left off. I don't know why, but I feel this is the one of most useful way to talk to ChatGpt, and I see this would be useful for children's that will be limited by parent control but will need a fast advice response in some emergencies.
Just tried it to ask for directions. If I needed this phone number, I likely have no internet access, and in the event of an emergency this might be the next best option for critical information. Too bad such information is against the guidelines. This version of ChatGPT is very restricted.
For small businesses, it Would be cool if whatsapp could chat with a custom gpt and/ or a project. Then we could use this as a support chat channel with customers.

-Why the texts and all of surface are black and white, allow gpt to write text in different colors, highlights for different topics and allow collapsing feature the topics that chatgpt gives.
-For every conversation page between user and gpt, please add a section on the somewhere of the page to understand quickly what this conversation is all about, it is hard to remember old conversations from the first glance.
If I have the mic muted, why would I still be charged for the daily limit? It should already pause that... (you'd think?)
How do you know that the 1 hour period was not consumed during silencing?
Also add a way for us to call chatgpt directly within Whatsapp

I was expecting ChatGPT to be available for telegraph too...
I don't know why, but I feel this is the one of most useful way to talk to ChatGpt, and I see this would be useful for children's that will be limited by parent control but will need a fast advice response in some emergencies.

Just tried it to ask for directions. If I needed this phone number, I likely have no internet access, and in the event of an emergency this might be the next best option for critical information. Too bad such information is against the guidelines. This version of ChatGPT is very restricted.

For small businesses, it Would be cool if whatsapp could chat with a custom gpt and/ or a project. Then we could use this as a support chat channel with customers.
