Defense was what we hoped for.
Stroman was a beast.
Most impressive for me was the contact we were making at bat. Only 3 strikeouts against their ace and 5 total. Saw a lot of hard hit outs instead of the strikeouts I’m used to.
Stroman got some really generous strike calls lol but i'll remember this game when the Cubs get screwed over by the umps down the road. It's a long season so you gotta take the wins whatever way you can get haha

I am suddenly reminded of a four game series years ago here in Washington between the Nationals and the Cubs. The Cubs failed to hit a home run during the entire four games, and on a fan website there were comments on how lousy the Cubs were being unable to hit a single homer. Never mind that they won 3 of the 4.
It was over July 4. I was at three of those games, but being unwilling to go into the District on July 4, I watched that one on TV. It was a very enjoyable series and the Cubs looked sharp and played the fundamentals. Your posting just brought it to mind. A very pleasant Cubs memory.

Good first win. Good contact. Starter gives you 6 innings of shut out baseball. This is what this team will be designed to do throughout the season. If they can play the majority of their baseball like this. They could win 90 games. I am a hopeless romantic though. This team will lack serious power and will hurt them inevitably. GO CUBS GO!

Too bad I neither I nor my 80+ year old father can watch games anymore. We cannot afford cable. We've been watching together since I was in high school. It's so wrong to have done this to fans who have supports the Cubs for decades. But hey, we don't count for anything.
