I dont care about the few people in the comments saying they hate it cuz its "too predictable". Its only predictable because it fits so perfectly and also interwoven story plots of FF7 are not about their relationship anyway so there is literally no reason to hate Glenn being Clouds father. Someone said they want Cloud to be another one of Shinra's illegitimate kids but that would devalue Cloud as a character and overly convolute the story. Glenn being Cloud's dad would move the story along more naturally while the main plot can continue to move with the new additional interwoven aspects expanding the original story instead of complicating things further (Shinra being Cloud father would over complicate the story cuz we would have to tie up that loose end later) While Cloud and Glenn being family is simple enough to work it out in maybe a conversation in the game and maybe a reveal scene later.
At risk of being crucified by the fandom, I can think of a few interesting ideas Glenn being Cloud's father could bring to the story. I would be totally down to see it become true. But I also don't think Cloud needs to meet and have a relationship with him. Best way to handle it would be to reveal it to the audience, but Cloud himself doesn't ever need to learn the truth.
I think the factor which could be the most convincing (for me at least) with pointing to Glen as Cloud’s dad is a bit indirect, but bear with me: In Crisis Core, there’s the whole issue with Genesis/Angeal getting Jenova cells but not being as “perfect” of specimens - but Sephiroth, who was born of Jenova-infused Lucretia, was a “better specimen.” Hojo initially wrote Cloud off as a failed experiment, but was surprised when he turned out to be a better “specimen”… What if the reason is the Glenn - already mako-infused soldier passed along mako-infused genetic material when he was with Claudia, so when she gave birth to Cloud, his body was better adapted to take on Jenova cells/Sephiroth cells when Hojo later experimented on him? It’s admittedly convoluted, but narratively, it tracks/mirrors other things we already know about characters in the game…

The reason why Cloud was comatosed after Zack reacues him, is because he has had no previous expoaure to Mako, unlike Zack who is a 1st class S Soldier. Angeals mother(Gillian)had Jenova implanted DNA, Genesis was introduced to Gillian post birth, but Sephiroth, under Hojo and Lucretias gaze, was injected with Jenova cells as a fetus, which maybe qhy Lucretia had pains, because it was degrading her baby, thus why he is born with Silver hair like Jenova, but the others degrade and get silver hair as they do so.
Also, Glenn, Matt, and Lucia are Passive 0/P:0 Soldiers, which means they havent had any unorganic alterations made to them unlike G and S Class Soldiers. So, even if Glen were Clouds father theres still no pre-mako/pre-jenova infusion there.

The general opinion from the audience and other content creators is that people don't want the subject addressed, they want Square to leave it alone. However, we don't know how they spin the story, they could spin the story into crap, or they could turn it in some legendary plot twist nobody saw coming. It could be epic, like the spin in Bioshock "Would You Kindly..."

That is a reference to Cloud using 2000 Gill as a price and then Glenn having used 2000 gil believe at some point? There was mention about Claudia in the story from what I've heard and people have mentioned it is another piece of this whole puzzle. Obviously you should read it when you get the chance.
I have seen some quick translations of the story but idk that I’ve seen everything. If there’s a 2,000 Gil thing with Glenn that would kinda solidify I’d say.

Cloud's dad doesn't need to have any greater importance in the story other than having died when he was young, like Tifa's mum. Maybe to help explain why he was socially awkward/loner, but that's it. The most we should get is a cherished childhood memory of him before he passed, to make his passing a core character building event for cloud. I don't think there should be any more than that tbh.

My opinion is based on the writers potentially doing a disservice to the story, and the main characters Cloud and Tifa, if they start to flesh out their dead parents more, seeing as they were written dead in the first place to give depth and commonality to those two. If they are fleshed out at all, it should be to emphasise how beloved they were to the protagonists, and to maximise the tragedy of their loss. Not to convolute the plot.
A better twist would be if Glenn was yet another son of President Shinra, and Rufus discovers he actually killed his half brother in game 3. Glenn/Sephiroth also says "The plan is already in motion. Our promised land will become a reality. A father's dream, accomplished by his son." Nice twist if he is actually talking about himself maybe.

That's the thing, not a lot of people played EC. If they did, I think people would be interested in the idea of Clouds dad being someone who was like an actual father to Sephiroth in a way. That would bring the characters of Cloud and Sephiroth even more in parallel to each other. Sephiroth always felt like the dark reflections of Clouds aspiration and negative side of his own personal issues with identity and psychological health. I kind of remember a scene when the group gets to the Corel reactor where Yuffie starts talking about Glenn and it almost kind of seemed to me like his name meant something to cloud. I’ll have to go back and replay it though

But what if Glenn is actually a true experiment created in a lab with false memories, the way Sephiroth describes Cloud to be in OG, or what Genesis said Project S to be in CC? Cloud's dad could have been one of the makonoids used in making Glenn. A DNA lie with the truth to be thrown right at Cloud in the Whirlwind Maze when he doesn't want to be real.

When they announced the Remake trilogy, literally no one was asking “I hope they tell us who Cloud’s dad is!”. I’ve absolutely loved the Remakes and what they are doing with the story but god please no devs, don’t make Glen Cloud’s dad, it does absolutely nothing for the story. Leave his father a mystery. It definitely feels like the seeds have been planted and they can go that route if they want to, but god I hope not.

But unless there was some time travel involved, he appeared there after 15 years ago, and Cloud is 20 years old. It is also worth noting that any time before his First Soldier journey into becoming a P0 soldier, he trained along the real Glenn Lodbrok, murdered him [as he himself failed the training] and took his identity. Prior to that, his job was to haul Ifalna around for tests in Hojo's lab. So... he never really had any time to knock Claudia up, and he showed up 5 years too late in some side content holiday event. The only thing they have in common is an obsession over 2,000 gil. What kept driving me nuts, is he looks like a ripoff of Rufus's model aged up, which gives me Lazard/Evan vibes, aka a brother-figure. He also looks kinda unlike First Soldier's Glenn? Maybe it's the cheek gaunt..

I don't understand why everyone loves these stupid new characters so much. There are plenty of legacy carriers that are far better that get none of the attention and it just baffles me.
I am not a fan of Jenova cells playing the sole role for Cloud's abilities because then we are looking at a skywalker-like scenario which I think cheapens the story. Thats not to say I don't want an inherited skill set. For example, my father is extremely handy and scientifically inclined, my mother is very artistic and musically inclined. As a result I am blessed with similar talents myself by trading both my carpentry and 3D art skills. Why not have Cloud's natural talent for combative skills, derive from his father, and not the experiments his father underwent? We know that SOLIDER candidates are required to have prerequisites before being inducted, surely the Type-0s were no different. As for whether or not Glenn is the missing daddy, I have no idea. What I can say is if Cloud's dad didn't matter then they would have found a body. To specifically note that no remains were found is a classic Chekhov's gun situation. You don't say something like that without the intention to elaborate later.
I don't think Glen needs to be a reason for Cloud's prowess, especially since they use different weapons. Zack already covers the reason for Cloud's prowess.

I am not a fan of Jenova cells playing the sole role for Cloud's abilities because then we are looking at a skywalker-like scenario which I think cheapens the story.
Thats not to say I don't want an inherited skill set. For example, my father is extremely handy and scientifically inclined, my mother is very artistic and musically inclined. As a result I am blessed with similar talents myself by trading both my carpentry and 3D art skills.
Why not have Cloud's natural talent for combative skills, derive from his father, and not the experiments his father underwent? We know that SOLIDER candidates are required to have prerequisites before being inducted, surely the Type-0s were no different.
As for whether or not Glenn is the missing daddy, I have no idea. What I can say is if Cloud's dad didn't matter then they would have found a body. To specifically note that no remains were found is a classic Chekhov's gun situation. You don't say something like that without the intention to elaborate later.
I don't think Glen needs to be a reason for Cloud's prowess, especially since they use different weapons. Zack already covers the reason for Cloud's prowess.
