Excellent explanation. 3 previous videos and a 1:1 verbal discussion didn’t bring as much clarity to me as your presentation! Thank you.

Nicely done! You should sell your diagrams and captions to trailer and truck manufacturers because yours is better than there's.

2016 F350 Crew Cab Long Bed Dual wheel 4X4 3.73 Axle . Published GCVR is 32,100. Publish Max fifth wheel towing Capacity is 23,500. my truck weighs 8786 from door sticker ( GVWR 14000 maximum paylod capacity from sticker 5314). 23500 +8786 = 32,386 which is over the GCVR I would have to take the bumper off and let the truck drive itself not to be violation the published weights if pulling maximum published fifth wheel weight . Can someone explain this to me. the published GCVWR for my truck is much less than the GVWR 14,000 + the Maximum published towing capacity of 23,500 = 37,500 diff of 5400 over the GCVR . Help me understand.

In your bumper pull example, if you transfer 1000 pounds to the bumper hitch, then your machine on the trailer could weigh as much as 9000 pounds?

@ 3:01 "That means that you would take the 10,000 pounds of the Trailer, and you would subtract that from the Trailers GVWR of 10,000 pounds which leaves you 8,000 pounds of available payload." We can agree that statement is incorrect. Also, it would have taken less time to stick with the SAME truck, curb weight, max. payload and tow vehicle GVWR in the bumper pull and fifth wheel examples. And, it is possible on some tow vehicles to be within the GVWR and still overload the rear axle GAWR, especially with a bumper pull trailer that can transfer front axle weight onto the rear axle, if a weight distributing hitch is not used properly.

That was a noted mistake on my part I said 10,000 instead of 2000. 10,000-2000+8000 lbs of payload remaining on the bumper pull trailer. Bobcat weighs 8000 lbs so that particular trailer is maxed out on it's GVWR

Awesome video, man! Thanks for explaining all of that! I do have a question, however. With the tongue weight, is that assuming the piece of equipment is parked directly over axle(s)? I figure if the equipment was parked closer to the truck and just over the axles, that the 10-15% tongue would be higher, no?

Tyler Wells Thank you for your suportive comment. And to answer your question, yes. If the cargo or machine you are towing is further forwards on the trailers tongue than the hitch weight will definitly be higher. That is why it is also crucial that a person knows how much weight their trailer+cargo is, what their hitch receiver is rated for on their truck and how much their trucks rear axle is rated for as the further forward the load is on the trailer, the more weight you are putting on the truck.

for a triple axle trailer it's pretty weak to only carry 10k pounds 🤔
