    This is again an eye-opener and gives us another perspective to creating topspin instead of "brushing the ball" or "low to high"; great video.

    An ex squash player here in Brisbane. Been hitting the tennis ball since May this year. Tried brushing then low to high but then noticed my grip was super tight plus had tennis elbow at the end of each session. Have since moved to a heavier racquet no more sore elbow pain and have started to adopt a loser grip for both my forehand and two handed backhand? Wow I’ve already noticed more consistency on both sides especially my forehand? The loser grip definitely increases the follow through speed consistency and power.
    Work in progress?
    Brilliant lesson and totally will improve your game.

    This is a game changer for me! I've always been able to hit with loads of spin but struggled to flatten out my shots. My shots were too wristy but I didn't know why.
    This video made me pay attention to how I was holding the racquet and made me realise that I was almost holding it like a teacup. I mostly hold on to the grip with my thumb, index and middle fingers. My ring finger and pinky kind of just hangs there. As soon as I focused on gripping it with all my fingers I instantly felt my strokes become less wristy!

    I also would be interested in generating more topspin on my one handed backhand. Would love to have a high kicking topspin backhand rather than trying to always run around it to hit a forehand as that is easier for me to generate some higher quality topspin. Great video on the forehand. I never thought of lag as also being below the ball, probably because my grip was too tight. Thanks.

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад +1

      Javi LS hello, I have done at least one video in exactly that but don’t have time to search for it at the moment. If the ball is landing short and you are in fact accelerating then you need to bring your hand more out and up towards your target after contact. Make sure to not skim the ball too much at contact. In other words you must hit through the ball. If you swing low to high but not also out to the target then the ball will tend to land short.

    Fantastic! I've not heard the role of grip tension in creating top spin mentioned elsewhere. What role would you say grip tension plays when using underspin in a slice?

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад

      Max Renn that’s why I call it a secret! The role of grip tension for a slice or any stroke is it allows you to create extra spin and speed for free. Holding too tight which is incredibly common will lessen your spin and power every time

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад +2

      deemahdee thanks that’s a great compliment! With your problem it means you are not getting enough extension out towards the target during and after contact. And/or your swinging too much low to high.

    doesn't this fundamentally conflict with the fundamental tennis video titled 'The BEST Swing Path for Forehand Power'; this seems to suggest, and I'm not disagreeing, that there should be a racquet head drop. The Best swing path video basically says just the opposite

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад +1

      Ron Waddell I have seen that video Ron. There is no such thing as best swing path as that would imply that your always receiving and sending the same ball which is never the case. Tennis has as many variables, situations and adaptations as any sport out there which is largely why there is often confusion among players and even coaches because the answer to every tennis question is “it depends.” We must be clear and specific when addressing any technique as it’s very dependent on the ball received and what your trying to do with the ball. My video is simply about how to create more spin/speed with less effort.

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад +1

      Ron Waddell also they were working on making their students racquet drop shallower because he went too much “low to high” which will often create less depth and a slower ball.

    • @ronwaddell1181
      @ronwaddell1181 4 года назад

      Thanks for your replies and for what it's worth, as someone who plays with a lot of topspin, I thought your video was more helpful because of the variety of shots needing to be played. Maybe I did it naturally, but never thought about grip pressure affecting topspin and using pressure for different shots.

    • @FundamentalTennis
      @FundamentalTennis  4 года назад
