    • @arcdecibel9986
      @arcdecibel9986 5 месяцев назад +23

Oh, and where did he get "armor-piercing round" from if he wasn't carrying it already? We never see him pick any ammo up. Why did he have these rounds at the Observatory? He didn't know the Brotherhood was going to attack, he was just following Goosey. He also apparently didn't know that armor-piercing round would WORK on the T-60 armor. There's no reason to believe it would, starting with the fact that there are no welds on the outer surfaces of the cast composite plates. They are welded to the frame, which is also somewhat armored. How about if he just used a DIFFERENT GUN? That woulda been easy.
It's also kinda retarded that they went with "There's a bad weld that makes a weak spot". What made these consistently bad welds? A robot that is not calibrated, or just shoddy workmanship, can make a few bad welds if nobody notices, but the same mistakes can make other welds even stronger. It just depends on a variety of factors. One enormous factor would be that the T-60 has an entirely different chest plate. Robots or workmen, they made the SAME mistake on EVERY suit on a totally different model? Across MULTIPLE manufacturers? That's stupid.
He coulda just said something like "Oh, that T-60 is impressive, but like the 45, it has several spots where they skimped on material to save weight and money." The government would absolutely do that. And then he uses AP bullets to hit those spots. Similarly, he could have just told Maximus he didn't want to hurt him because it was so clear that he was inexperienced. But no, we didn't do that and now all the power armor requires doing something VERY simple like putting your arm over the "bad weld" and just walking over there to crush the ghoul's head, since bullets apparently don't hurt ghouls very much now.
Then, because we don't write our dialogue well, a headless knight, whose helmet is clean off, staggers into the main room so Overseer Daddy can get power armor to knock out Finn. I mean, Maximus, and fly away. How the fuck did that happen? And how does HE know how to use power armor? Was he also in the military? No, it happens because the scene needed it to happen and we didn't check very well for consistency.

Maximus thinking Fiends were cannibals was intentional and not a lore mistake. You can tell he is talking out of his ass which is something he does often. Recall back to the classroom when he couldnt identify technology.

20:00 One of the first things Lucy tells Wilzig is that she's looking for her dad, and tells him her dad was kidnapped by Muldaver. Wilzig is trying to deliver the cold fusion tech to Muldaver, so he likely knew who her father was as part of the plan.

We also know Muldaver had to have cryogenically frozen herself to still be around 200 odd years later. If he's so willing to work with her now (on the same tech she was pioneering before the war), it's possible he knew Muldaver before the war and used the same means to freeze himself. It could also be that he was a survivor from Shady Sands... he calls Lucy by her mother's name, who we know was close to Muldaver by the way she holds Lucy's mother's hand in the finale. If Wilzig knew them both at Shady Sands then he likely learned about Vault 33 directly from Lucy's mother.

I think most people are missing the nuance around the awkward Lucy/Max 'flirting' in vault 4. It's to show that the apocalypse doesn't just destroy physical civilization, it also destroys social civilization. The two characters don't know how to flirt, it's not a part of either of their factions. Vault 31 has arranged marriages and I think it makes sense that they treat sex more like a tool to repopulate/sustain the vault and that's why they're so open about it. Then Max being ignorant about the details of sex shows how a lack of proper education can really affect peoples conception of 'basic' things and it might also be playing into the religious nature of the brotherhood.
As for the scene itself, it starts with Max saying 'you smell nice' to Lucy, likely just making an observation since he probably hasn't smelled many nice things in the wasteland. Lucy is confused at first but thinks back to her vault education and she says "oh"(she clearly comes to the conclusion that Max is flirting with her) and so she proceeds to ask about sex. She's been shown to be a very blunt and open person so that all tracks for me. The dialog is definitely awkward and 'cringe' but I think that's the point. Think about how awkward you were the first time you talked to someone you were attracted to. Then multiply it by 1000 because of a lack of education, massively diverging social structures, and the literal apocalypse.
Max does come off like he's 'high' on something but I think that also makes sense, though the actor may have played it up a little too much. He's been living with the brotherhood for at least a decade now, he's never had 'nice' food or anything like that(maybe as a small kid in shady sands but he was like 6 when that got nuked so he wouldn't remember much). He's clearly overwhelmed by everything and not thinking strait, which again makes sense to me.
Overall I think there are plenty of little things to nit pick about, including in that scene, but I think most people are missing the point of the scene as well.

Honestly, the conversation in Vault 4 really put Maximus in perspective for me. It really solidified for me the fact that “oh yeah, he’s a child soldier raised in a weird military cult primarily surrounded by other weird maladjusted child soldiers. He’s never talked to a civilian woman as a grown man who he’d be physically attracted to.” And Lucy, I mean “cousin stuff was alright as kids but obvs that’s unsustainable” lol she’s basically been groomed to be a breeder and is overly blunt about sex.
Also this is the first time since each of them left their factions that they felt safe. I can see their bodies switching from fight or flight right into rest and naturally feeling drawn to each other. Maximus has been obviously crushing on Lucy in a childish “pretty girl” way and I can imagine Lucy seeing him as her hero and recognizing him as good breeding stock because of his physical prowess.

I think the plague/famine really was in vault 33, but was fake to hide the escape of Lucy's mom. Remember, literally nobody in the vault mentioned her and the kids being gone from the vault - I'm pretty sure that would be a topic of conversation.
She says that the people had to 'quarantine', so nobody saw one another, and that famine was when her mum died.
So, her mum flees with the children, her Dad and Betty conspire to create the fake plague and keep everyone trapped in their rooms. Her Dad goes out, retrieves the kids, bombs the town, then creates the story about her mum starving.

I like the role reversal, the hardened wasteland inhabitant not knowing what sex is when propositioned by the innocent vault dweller.

Or how Moldaver knew Vault 32 would be vacant and she would be able to assume their identity to get into Vault 33 (or else why not just use Rose's Pip-Boy to go right into V33?). Or why she would use insane, bloodthirsty raiders that could jeopardize her plan /betray her (which required keeping Hank alive). Or why she would unnecessarily use the raiders to kill innocent people (especially Rose's children) if she was just trying to do something to help people.

the "ghoul cure" is not a cure, its radaway. You can clearly see that Maximus administers the same yellow fluid to Lucy to treat her radiation sickness, he also refers to the medicine as Radaway. the ghoul cure is chemotherapy, basically. It's explained to be a cocktail of drugs that non-irradiated humans can't handle and ghouls also can't really handle, but can handle just enough so that it will slow the spread of the radiation. Think of ghouls like human tumors, the goal of chemo is to take drugs that will kill you, but will hopefully kill the tumor before it kills you yourself. So ghouls are basically taking potent mixes of miscellaneous drugs to try and staunch what's basically like a full-body cancer.

I liked the weird sex conversation for two reasons. First when you know Lucy's vault, they are basically raised to be breeders, thats why she is so comfortable about being blunt and casual incest with her cousins at the beginning. And for Maximus its hilarious because thats either the rumors or teachings of those raised in the Brotherhood to keep them celebate and pure for their mission. Its wacky cult stuff and it was weird and hilarious.

    • @arcdecibel9986
      @arcdecibel9986 5 месяцев назад +11

The Brotherhood isn't celibate. They have children all the time, and ones with combat aptitude are raised to be squires. Originally, Maximus was supposed to be a young teenager, which is why he doesn't know how his dick works, and acts so childishly. There was no sex stuff in the original script. The change, very poorly implemented, is how we get weird inconsistencies like Maximus wanting to be a knight, which would necessitate going out in the wasteland, and then changing his mind and deciding he wants to live in a Vault with Lucy, who was more like a mother figure to him. For a child, this makes sense. For an adult military man, it does not.
Similarly, Maximus knows about some dangers of the wasteland, more than Lucy does initially, but he doesn't know all of them or fight very well because his training is not complete. It wouldn't be if he was 14 or whatever. But because they cast an adult actor, who is like 35 years old, it implies that Maximus has been training for decades and is either kinda dumb, or that the Brotherhood intentionally trains its squires poorly.

Is that: it’s mentioned twice that the power armor maximus was in possession of is that it had “the tempered lining”

The Brotherhood and their strange new culture is what really fascinates me.
*The West Coast Brotherhood "synthesized" and combined with Caesar's Legion.*
Maximus? Titus? Thaddeus? Quintus? All names you'd hear assigned to Legion raised individuals.
In older games, members would have either regular American sounding names or older names like Rhombus (FO1), Ashur (FO3), and Cyrus (FO:BOS). They were never Latin/Roman, they would always be other kinds of languages like Greek, Sumerian, and Persian origin.
The use of advanced tech like Power Armor can be easily explained as being reserved for veterans and proven warriors, just like in the Legion were only Centurions and veteran members were allowed to wield advanced tech. Most of the squires have weaker and less advanced gear and equipment.
They also apply more religious and ritualistic activities, like the branding of squires and all the other pseudo-religious hogwash that we see in the show. This could be a way of reinstilling the same zealotry that Legionnaires upheld when serving Caesar.
Also, just like how the Legion erased identities of the tribes it would conquer, the Brotherhood erased the Legion but only in name. They retained a lot of what the Legion would be known for or at least would very likely accept as customs.
It was Legion Remnants that synthesized with the Western BoS. It’s how they got so strong on West Coast again. It’s how they have a Base on the Utah Salt Flats (Legion Territory) As the BoS they remove advanced technology from everyone else, they are forced to adapt or die. The Red and Gold BoS Banners, the Latin names…the Cultish Clerics. Quintus even calls his forces a “Legion” not a Chapter.
When Elder Cleric Quintus says “we used to rule the Wasteland” he is talking about Caesar’s Legion. The “New Brotherhood” he talks about making? It’s the fulfillment of Caesar’s dreams. *The 88th Tribe. The Greatest of both Parties and the Removal of Weakness. A synthesized Legion.*

In today's real world, it is not unusual for one corporation to swallow up another (making them a subsidiary), but STILL have them identify as a separate entity for business purposes -OR- PARTICULARLY for governmental reasons. Case and point: I work for a company purchased by another larger company. The company I work for, and the company that owns the company I work for both have different contracts with different states, there are even states where we both have contracts. For legal/regulatory reasons, we are considered legally distinct entities, and there is information that is legally required to be kept separate as well (we can't just merge our databases or store them even on the same server, even though we are owned by the parent company).
I say all this, because you pointed out that it was flawed to include a company that was previously bought up by RobCo... And realistically, I don't think it's that odd at all. They would still have potentially useful perspectives that RobCo proper might not.

It took me a long time to realize that the enclave didn't just shoot up the vaults in fallout 2 out of cartoonish villainy, they did it because every vault was a dangerous experiment.

The 2277 and nuked bit, as was pointed out by someone, seems to indicate that the NCR was beginning its downfall then. And then the arrow pointing to the mushroom cloud can indicate a passage of time.

I’m not adverse to this theory, but “Fall of” usually denotes that something has fallen, not declined, especially when used to refer to cities. I've been waiting for your take. I'm glad you liked it. Many fans of the older games seem to take issue with the show.
A couple of possibilities to answer your plot holes:
    1. When Coop talks about the flaw in the Power Armour, he loads a specific
type of ammo. He didn't have that in his gun when he first met Maximus.
    2. The Brotherhood in the show seem to operate on propaganda. That's a common thing. Maximus was probably TOLD that fiends were cannibals. The SHOW tells us that the woman wanted the Pip Boy, not ass jerky.
    3. While the list you displayed DOES show a short list, Vault 31 had A LOT of cryo tubes. And no one said they all went into the tubes as a unit. It stands to reason that Hank doesn't know everyone, but trusts the process enough to assume it's a pre war person. The problem is that it's repeatedly stated that THIS woman is known by everyone, pre and post War.
    4. They put a big arrow and question mark on why Wilzig knew so much about 33. It was far too pointed to think that they just did it accidentally. I have to assume they'll answer that mystery eventually.

With the Super Duper Mart, the drug sellers had a bunch of ghouls locked up, and earlier The Ghoul hacked up Roger in an effort get what little bit of medicine from Roger's system, possibly his kidney or liver, he could. I think Snip-Snip helped to harvest the captured ghouls and process their organs in a way to make the serum that holds off feral-ness. It could be that a ghoul is fine until they hit a certain level before they start to turn feral, which at that point the chem would help to stave it off.

To be fair to your first point, he says to her in the first episode "I THINK I know who you are." So I assume he had never gotten a good look at her before that.
The problem with following the wiki is that the people writing it have as much information as we do and they say 2282 or other years because they want the show to be consistent with lore.
The show itself is internally consistent with the date 2277. It's just an error, and I believe there was no intention of retconning or 'destroying' NV but it's an error nonetheless.
We can't use Maximus or Lucy's age to deduce 2282. People make assumptions about Maximus' age because there is no evidence about his age at all. And all the information about Lucy's age is actually more consistent with a nuking of 2277.
She says in episode 5 that she stopped believing the vault light was the sun when she was 6 years old, and that this was a direct result of her mom dying. She says in episode 4 that her mom died in the Great Plague of '77. For her to believe her mom died at this date she must have been 5-6 in 2277.
As well it is consistent with info we get about Hank. When Norm is looking at past overseers we see that Hank was elected in 2271. Since the mustachioed man says Hank became overseer shortly after arriving, it's fair to assume that Lucy was probably born in or shortly after 2271.
People really want the show to be consistent with the lore and as such will ignore or twist all this info. But sometimes mistakes happen, and the show was pretty good besides this little error.

The vials look like Potassium Iodide liquid, which is commonly used to treat/delay symptoms of radiation sickness. They could've easily found that the liquid helps stabilize ghouls. And potassium iodide is commonly found in pharmacies.
EDIT: Budesonide in asthma inhalers is also effective against radiation induced enteritis--so Potassium Iodine mixed with it through the vial and intake mixing could theoretically work too.

Not sure if this is a mistake or not. But in the Vault-Tec meeting there is a representative of Big MT. The cast lists this representative as Frederick Sinclair, the owner of the Sierra Madre Casino. While it is known that Sinclair made deals with Big MT to allow experiments to be done at the Sierra Madre, I don’t think that he was ever employed by them. So it’s surprising that Big MT would have had him present at that meeting.

I saw Coop reviving Dogmeat as serving two purposes. First and foremost, it confirms he still loves dogs/Dogmeat reminds him of Roosevelt and it's also to track down the scientist, seeing as he left a blood that could be tracked.
Coop may have tried to separate himself from the dog when he abandoned it at the shoreline (after facing off with the Gulper); but its his dog now. Woe be to anyone who tries to hurt Dogmeat, now.

There is one easy way to explain Wilzig's knowledge of Lucy's vault. He wasn't with the Enclave. That wasn't an Enclave base. He was with Vault-tec. That was a still-operating Vault-tec base. As far as I could tell, the only mention of the Enclave is from the Brotherhood elder who could just be assuming he's with the Enclave since the Brotherhood hasn't run into anyone Vault-tec related except for vault dwellers. I didn't see any of the tell-tale 'E' insigna's around the base or on the guards or anything. Also explains why the 'maguffin' of the show, what he put into his head, was labeled 'Vault-tec' and was available at the base for him to take.

I always thought he was s**t talking, but now it seems more likely they are referring to them as refugees because their capital was destroyed. Why else would they be seeking refuge?? Just something I noticed that might allude to the timeline not actually being retconned by the fall of Shady Sands.

There is no problem with the timeline. The dropping of the nuke on SS is undated and occurs AFTER the fall of SS. They are not the same event. That is how timelines work, they're like flow charts. The question everyone should be asking is what was the fall, what events were happening, maybe that's when the one in the game fell and then they set up a new improved SS with black jack and hookers that hank found and disposed of later.

When Max says Lucy smells good she suggests having sex because it's shown as a casual thing in Episode One when she talks about 'cousin stuff', so to her it's no big deal, like playing a game of caravan. Max's response is also character development showing how naïve and indoctrinated he is, I found the scene pretty funny.
Also when Max is acting weird later and asks Lucy if she wants to have sex it's because he's been eating oysters which he describes as making him feel really weird because they are famously known as an aphrodisiac.

They showed us horror stories of what could happen if you had sex along with slides of the horrors of STDs. The conversation is cringe and uncomfortable but seemed very rooted in reality.

Plus Oxhorn is [portrays himself to be] a prudish American. Which is both cute and pathetic at the same time. Back in Ep.1 it's clearly shown that Lucy's attitude towards sex is very different from what Oxhorn is culturally used to. VERY different. To her (and her vault society) it's not a big deal at all. Their concern is clearly on genetic issues, NOT the physical side of things. So this scene that he thinks is cringeworthy is actually perfectly in character for who the two of them are. To her, sex is no big deal. While he's quite probably a virgin. And if not is far too embarrassed to talk frankly about sex. So I also found it cringey. But probably for the opposite reasons that Oxhorn did...

Todd Howard did an interview today. He stated this about he NCR "One of the takes that we always have is to approach things very locally when we're doing Fallout. We're careful about saying what's going on in other parts of the world. And we always take this view of, communication is difficult. And look, if you look at the background, the NCR is a wide-ranging sort of organization and group across not just California, but other places. So the show focuses on this period of time and this group here, and that's what we can say right now. But I don't think you've heard the last of the NCR"

The ghoul drug could be a pre-war drug. Many current irl drugs that were developed for one thing only to later be used for another. A perfect example is Ozempic was a diabetic drug, and is now used for weight loss. Trazadone originally designed as an anti depressant is now used to aid specific types of insomnia. It is entirely conceivable that the ghoul drug was found to affect ghouls long after the war happened.

The plot hole about how the dad didn't recognize moldaver is explained in the scene when he is kidnapped. He says to moldaver something like "i think i know who you are now". There is also no reason he should now her in the first place. Yes she is pre war (a vault tech scientis) , and it seems like his wife took the kids and left to shady sands but, it's not shown yet that he ever actually met with her. I also dont think he knew anything that happens in vault 32 (that they are all dead) it is said in the show that they only make contact every 3 years for genetic and trade reasons and that the vault has only been "dead" for 2 years. And, he has stated that he would never intentionally do anything to put lucy in danger so, why would he open a vault door to people he should know are dead with people claiming to be from vault 32. Im thinking that Betty is the only one that actualy knows everything that vault tech is up to and even people that are from vault 31 may not know everything.
