Maximus thinking Fiends were cannibals was intentional and not a lore mistake. You can tell he is talking out of his ass which is something he does often. Recall back to the classroom when he couldnt identify technology. The show often implies he is sheltered, indoctrinated, and slow to catch on. Maximus made the mistake. Not the writers
Yeah also the part right after in this video where the elder says that the brotherhood ruled all of the west could also easily be propaganda to convince Max to rebuild what they lost
I love that. When he gets Thaddeus as his squire and Thaddeus actually knows about power armor and tech because he pays attention in class 😂 Maximus doesn’t skip range day though
@NONAM.E00 true, but the first episode tells you a lot about Maximus, you see him in class daydreaming out the window 😂 Also Thaddeus spends too much time paying attention in class and needs to put some points into agility and perception. Bro couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
Some are cannibals, you fight Violet who feed her dogs human flesh. She’s seen eating meat during sneak mode. Not crazy to assume she eats them too. We also have multiple fiends that do more terrible things like sell children, or rape people
20:00 One of the first things Lucy tells Wilzig is that she's looking for her dad, and tells him her dad was kidnapped by Muldaver. Wilzig is trying to deliver the cold fusion tech to Muldaver, so he likely knew who her father was as part of the plan.
We also know Muldaver had to have cryogenically frozen herself to still be around 200 odd years later. If he's so willing to work with her now (on the same tech she was pioneering before the war), it's possible he knew Muldaver before the war and used the same means to freeze himself. It could also be that he was a survivor from Shady Sands... he calls Lucy by her mother's name, who we know was close to Muldaver by the way she holds Lucy's mother's hand in the finale. If Wilzig knew them both at Shady Sands then he likely learned about Vault 33 directly from Lucy's mother.
Wilzig was also in the Enclave, which is basically just remnants of the US government, to which the government was closely tied with Vault-Tec. My theory is Wilzig planned with Moldaver for a while and so he probably brushed up on his knowledge of the surrounding area, including the vaults
@@jasonkehr3727 for some reason when i watched the show, i was under the impression muldaver was a ghoul with a fake nose. I dont remember why exactly i came to that conclusion, but that was my assumption. I think maybe there was like a drawing of muldaver somewhere in the show, and it gave her a really fake looking nose, but idk.
The Ghoul didn't wing against Maxiumus because he didn't have Armor Piercing round. In the last episode the camera even zoomed intk the bullet to show what type of ammo he is using.
Honestly, I'm just happy that the difference in the design of the bullets is so good that people are actually noticing it.That's an attention to detail. Most people don't bother making
Yup didn't have AP rounds when fighting Max, looked like HE rounds was my take on the two scenes. It did bug me at first, I noticed the ammo types on a second watch through.
Oh, and where did he get "armor-piercing round" from if he wasn't carrying it already? We never see him pick any ammo up. Why did he have these rounds at the Observatory? He didn't know the Brotherhood was going to attack, he was just following Goosey. He also apparently didn't know that armor-piercing round would WORK on the T-60 armor. There's no reason to believe it would, starting with the fact that there are no welds on the outer surfaces of the cast composite plates. They are welded to the frame, which is also somewhat armored. How about if he just used a DIFFERENT GUN? That woulda been easy. It's also kinda retarded that they went with "There's a bad weld that makes a weak spot". What made these consistently bad welds? A robot that is not calibrated, or just shoddy workmanship, can make a few bad welds if nobody notices, but the same mistakes can make other welds even stronger. It just depends on a variety of factors. One enormous factor would be that the T-60 has an entirely different chest plate. Robots or workmen, they made the SAME mistake on EVERY suit on a totally different model? Across MULTIPLE manufacturers? That's stupid. He coulda just said something like "Oh, that T-60 is impressive, but like the 45, it has several spots where they skimped on material to save weight and money." The government would absolutely do that. And then he uses AP bullets to hit those spots. Similarly, he could have just told Maximus he didn't want to hurt him because it was so clear that he was inexperienced. But no, we didn't do that and now all the power armor requires doing something VERY simple like putting your arm over the "bad weld" and just walking over there to crush the ghoul's head, since bullets apparently don't hurt ghouls very much now. Then, because we don't write our dialogue well, a headless knight, whose helmet is clean off, staggers into the main room so Overseer Daddy can get power armor to knock out Finn. I mean, Maximus, and fly away. How the fuck did that happen? And how does HE know how to use power armor? Was he also in the military? No, it happens because the scene needed it to happen and we didn't check very well for consistency.
I also looked at it from the first episode it gave impression sex was something done to stave boredom too. Then the after eating Oysters he asked about sex as a joke for how Oysters are an aphrodisiac
I mean it is a vault dweller and a Brother hood members who's probably only be taught how to fight and about technology, so it's probably perfectly in character for them. Also Lucy pretty much said similar stuff in episode 1 lol.
Also just a little additional thing since I agree, Maximus had just been treated for that gunshot wound so he might have even been on a little med x or super stim high lol.
Ox still has the upper hand on the lore. He correctly pointed out that a library book that hadn't been checked out in a couple of years obviously means the city had been nuked. Airtite logic.
I mean, isn't it just as likely that he knows because he's part of the Enclave? Isn't their whole thing being information brokers and infiltrating survivor communities? It doesn't seem like it would be a stretch to assume that they know about Vault 33 as well.
My theory is that Moldova has been waiting for Maclean to surface so that she could get the code to her invention. When the mom told her last name it set in motion the plan to invade the vault and capture Maclean. She then sent word to the enclave scientist on when it was happening so that he could escape and get to the observatory around the same time.
Wait but guys it makes no sense. The enclave had already fallen. They had been gone for a while. There's no reason for them to come back. What the f***
I love how Lucy represents so well people when they are first introduced into the Fallout universe. Lucy - "Is that a Knight!? Wow!" *A few episodes later* Lucy - "Wait, aren't the Brotherhood the good guys?" The Brotherhood - "Well, about that..."
@@braydoxastora5584 My guess is that soldiers who used power armors before the bombs fell were called Knights. The Brotherhood just uses the same name because they came from the military.
Lucy and maximus with the whole "pop like a pimple" thing. Makes sense in character. Lucy is awkwardly social while Max is socially awkward. Both have no idea how to handle emotions and feelings. Max was raised as a child to be a soldier and knows nothing else. Lucy was raised to be bred. Sex is just sex to her, nothing else. They are both learning to be well... human.
@@vdkylo7251I was raised in a very Christian school. We had one sex Ed class that basically taught us the mechanics, and even then they didn’t teach us everything. And then they mostly told us to remain abstinent lol. The internet taught me way more about sex. Maximus didn’t have that sex Ed class, and he didn’t have the internet, so in my experience it stands to reason that he’d have no fuckin clue about sex in a society as traditional as the brotherhood lol
I thought that too. Seems a little bit of a stretch to say he revived that specific dog because he loved his own dog, especially when he had no problems knifing it
Hank not "recognizing" the "Overseer of Vault 32" eludes to the fact that the entirety of Vault 31 is a storage facility for popsicle Overseers waiting to be thawed in an order chosen before the bombs dropped.
@@bradchevy1316 not really, that's just how it was designed. No breeding pairs, no contact between the vaults. Also Hank was very clearly a peon/gopher/coffee boy before the war, he had to get like 3 people's permission to even say hi to Cooper Howard, and he was a sweaty weird simp the whole time. its believable that he wouldn't know every single one of Bud's Buds
No , he clearly knows who Moldaver was/is. If u go back to Eps. 8 moldaver or Hank (can’t rem),explains how Hank went after his wife when she left the Vault and proceeded to go and get his children before nuking Shady Sands. Moldaver being in love with Hanks wife must have known who hank was. And vise-versa. So her as a vault overseer meeting face 2 face. Makes no sense. Definitely a head scratcher 4 sure. I’d be thankful if someone explain this to me.
in "that scene": max says "you smell good." lucy know she's been days out in the wasteland, far from anything resembling a hot shower or soap. she even smells herself for a second. then she realizes that "you smell good." is max responding to her pheromones. being a smart, liberated vault dweller, she jumps to the correct conclusion that he's attracted to her and figures that they could just as easily pass the quarantine time by banging one out as they could just sitting there twiddling thumbs. but the Brotherhood's celibacy propaganda has its hooks too deep into max's mind
As well, isn't she from the 'breeder vault' the ones literally keep there to breed so she's been raised to breed, maybe why she says such out of pocket things around it?
Dunno if it's been mentioned or not but lucy mentions to the ghoul that she rememebers the great plague of '77 in the vault with her mum and dad. She also mentioned she was convinced as a kid in the vault farms she could feel the sun. Im guessing what she actually rememebrs is a plauge of shady sands since she was there very young. That would explain the "fall of shady sands" before the nuke hit a few years later
Another thing to add is that NCR went to war with the legion at hoover in 2277 so with a plague going on and most of the resources going towards New Vegas, it can be said that the fall of shady sands makes sense to be in 2277.
I think the plague/famine really was in vault 33, but was fake to hide the escape of Lucy's mom. Remember, literally nobody in the vault mentioned her and the kids being gone from the vault - I'm pretty sure that would be a topic of conversation. She says that the people had to 'quarantine', so nobody saw one another, and that famine was when her mum died. So, her mum flees with the children, her Dad and Betty conspire to create the fake plague and keep everyone trapped in their rooms. Her Dad goes out, retrieves the kids, bombs the town, then creates the story about her mum starving.
Honestly, the conversation in Vault 4 really put Maximus in perspective for me. It really solidified for me the fact that “oh yeah, he’s a child soldier raised in a weird military cult primarily surrounded by other weird maladjusted child soldiers. He’s never talked to a civilian woman as a grown man who he’d be physically attracted to.” And Lucy, I mean “cousin stuff was alright as kids but obvs that’s unsustainable” lol she’s basically been groomed to be a breeder and is overly blunt about sex. Also this is the first time since each of them left their factions that they felt safe. I can see their bodies switching from fight or flight right into rest and naturally feeling drawn to each other. Maximus has been obviously crushing on Lucy in a childish “pretty girl” way and I can imagine Lucy seeing him as her hero and recognizing him as good breeding stock because of his physical prowess.
There were women in Brotherhood bases in both New Vegas and East coast, they portraited the Brotherhood where Maximus grew inconsistent with the other Brotherhood factions.
Maximus is casted well. Sort of a mysterious liar and someone that you don't know if you can trust. Even though his friend took the fall for the blade in the boot, I still can't determine what is true. Gets the comms from the base to kill anyone in his way so you don't know if Lucy is in trouble or not, I thought he would end up backstabbing her in the end for the head. Vault 4 really brought them together which is why he finally shared his real name after lying. Very thought out character
That was my thinking as well. We see a bit of Lucy’s bluntness during her wedding (“What’s your sperm count?”). Add in the fact she’s raised think “we need to rebuild civilization”, it’s just not that big a deal to her. As for Maximus, while we’ve seen women in the Brotherhood, we didn’t see any in the show (not going to get into arguments about the actor who played Dane). You can understand his confusion/disgust being there’s a guy masterbating in his bunk one scene that no one comments on. Could be a typical occurrence and the most he knows about sex.
On top of what the OP said, that exchange was also the best indication of how safe each character felt. Lucy was perfectly comfortable and went back to "vault mode" thinking of a way to release stress. Maximus was the exact opposite, being alert and guarded. This flipped on its head later in the episode, with Maximus feeling relaxed and safe, and Lucy alerted after the flamemother scene.
I think most people are missing the nuance around the awkward Lucy/Max 'flirting' in vault 4. It's to show that the apocalypse doesn't just destroy physical civilization, it also destroys social civilization. The two characters don't know how to flirt, it's not a part of either of their factions. Vault 31 has arranged marriages and I think it makes sense that they treat sex more like a tool to repopulate/sustain the vault and that's why they're so open about it. Then Max being ignorant about the details of sex shows how a lack of proper education can really affect peoples conception of 'basic' things and it might also be playing into the religious nature of the brotherhood. As for the scene itself, it starts with Max saying 'you smell nice' to Lucy, likely just making an observation since he probably hasn't smelled many nice things in the wasteland. Lucy is confused at first but thinks back to her vault education and she says "oh"(she clearly comes to the conclusion that Max is flirting with her) and so she proceeds to ask about sex. She's been shown to be a very blunt and open person so that all tracks for me. The dialog is definitely awkward and 'cringe' but I think that's the point. Think about how awkward you were the first time you talked to someone you were attracted to. Then multiply it by 1000 because of a lack of education, massively diverging social structures, and the literal apocalypse. Max does come off like he's 'high' on something but I think that also makes sense, though the actor may have played it up a little too much. He's been living with the brotherhood for at least a decade now, he's never had 'nice' food or anything like that(maybe as a small kid in shady sands but he was like 6 when that got nuked so he wouldn't remember much). He's clearly overwhelmed by everything and not thinking strait, which again makes sense to me. Overall I think there are plenty of little things to nit pick about, including in that scene, but I think most people are missing the point of the scene as well.
It's funny to me that most of the complaints I've seen people raise about the show can be explained in this fashion. It seems like the show leaned HARD into "show not tell", but underestimated how much a certain subset of the obsessive gamer community might miss those things.
as I saw someone else say, the first interaction could've easily been explained by all the medication he is on for the wound, and the second was after eating Oysters, as a nod to them being somewhat of an aphrodisiac.
@@outregis there's also the fact that he's a dude in his early 20's who's seeing a pretty girl for literally the first time. And she's an idealistic girl in her early 20's who sees a guy acting like a hero. People try to hard to overcomplicate things sometimes, but people are still people and young people are kinda stupid.
@@TheGoIsWin21 The people who didn’t pick up on why it was so awkward either never has heard of Fallout, or don’t flirt ever. 😂 The two of them are sheltered, they don’t know how to interact with other people. It was obvious since episode one cuz all of their interactions with people were either awkward, hilarious or just wild. There isn’t a good reason why people hated their flirting scenes, and it says more about them than the writing of the show, which was consistently great

I thought the power armor was a plot hole too until I realized that the ghoul uses special bullets when he fights the brotherhood in the final scene whereas versus Max he doesn't
I thought he pitied Max in the first fight, so he didn't go for the weak spot. But I LOVE the fact that he revealed to be a former pilot of Power Armor, which emphasizes his experience and begrudging history.
@@connerthewubbzler1062 I also liked that detail. I was thinking it'd be really cool to get a scene with the ghoul piloting some armor next season, giving the audience an idea that the people in the wasteland don't know how to wield the prewar tech they commandeer. Just my idea tho 😂
The reason Hank doesn't recognize Moldaver and isn't alarmed might be because it's established Vault 31 residents, while being VT employees, might not know each other all that well. Hank was pretty low on the totem pole. Also it's established they are thawed sequentially to oversee V32 and 33. He could expect she was just a recent thaw, to replace the old V32 overseer.
Yeah my understand is most people in Vault 31 don’t know each other because they are all frozen. If they do know each other it’s from pre-apocalypse relationships
I agree with this, but my bigger issue is why Bud/Hank didn't notice for 2 years they were getting 0 communication from Vault 32. Or how Moldaver knew Vault 32 would be vacant and she would be able to assume their identity to get into Vault 33 (or else why not just use Rose's Pip-Boy to go right into V33?). Or why she would use insane, bloodthirsty raiders that could jeopardize her plan /betray her (which required keeping Hank alive). Or why she would unnecessarily use the raiders to kill innocent people (especially Rose's children) if she was just trying to do something to help people. Hopefully some of these (especially the stuff about Moldaver) will be answered in season 2. But oher than these plot holes here and there I loved the show.
@@realroberthouse7028 maybe she just crazy. She keeps a ghoul of the mother around at a dinner table. Possibly, she didn't know about 33 and it was pure luck she worked with.... honestly, overall not the worst.

I remember thinking back when Django Unchained came out that “that one bad guy has a really great walk”. Still stands, Walton has an instantly identifiable walk and I knew it was him immediately. I hope he gets all the work he wants and lives a happy, full life.
The guy who never went to filli, was smarter than he looked. Sure he was not the best catch, but a girl in the wasteland that doesn't shoot first? That's a keeper. Gotta at least try.
17:48 oysters are considered an aphrodisiac and considering that Maximus is a young lad who never had sex this scene makes sense. And well - you are SUPPOSED to cringe at this. It's intentionally written to show how weird and naive they are. How open for sex Lucy is is already hinted at in the first episode where she just says okey dokey and is not weirded out by her new husband
even moreso that she looks past all the scars on the guy, it very clearly shows she's just rearing to go 🤣 Though, for Maximus' sake I hope she had really taken to heart the "knight in shining armor" moment. literally knight in shining armor 💀
I read this in much the same way. Max’s dialog is cringy. But it’s an uneducated wastelander trying to act like he knows what he’s talking about when he obviously doesn’t. I like the role reversal, the hardened wasteland inhabitant not knowing what sex is when propositioned by the innocent vault dweller. Max is so uneducated and innocent to the idea of sex that he doesn’t know what an orgasm is and doesn’t understand that he’s telling her he’s a virgin. Cringe, absolutely, but tells us so much about the lives both characters have lived.
Also helped serve as an expectation subversion for the vault inhabitants. It's framed entirely like Vault 4 residents are evil and still experimenting on folks from the surface until the very end when Lucy is "sentenced to death".
- The Ghoul realized that Maximus was a beginner who didn't even know how to use Power Armor properly, so it makes sense that he didn't take the fight 100% seriously and didn't reveal important information like the flaw in the design of power armor in the middle of a city - Not using the Helmet Flashlights was really stupid but we can say it was panic - Hank already knew in advance that the previous Overseer who was from Vault 31 had "died during the harvest blight" so it makes sense that he wouldn't have suspected a resident unknown from Vault 32 was elected in the meantime
It's much simpler. He didn't have the right ammo. In the final scenes with the power armor he holds a new type of ammo in this hands which looks like armor pen rounds
ngl i can 100% buy that those helmet lights are just decor or that the knights didnt know how to activate them Titus already showcases that Knights are/can be massive frauds without bravery or brain- hell, the scribe that joined Maximus seemed *shocked* that Maximus didn't just leave him to die to the mutated axolotl finger thing
I think the meeting happened before 2076 and RobCo hadn’t bought Repconn yet. Because they were just discussing Bud’s Buds and I feel like developing Vault 31-32-33 would take quite some time.

The “Icecream Socials” is a reference to the fact that bars went legit and became ice cream parlors during prohibition. This meant they became the main legal social gatherings for a generation prior to wwii and that love of ice cream Carried over into the 1950s when the troops came home. Fallout being a futuristic 1950s… this make sense to me.
@Lee-km7qq Well except it’s also made abundantly clear throughout the game series that Pre-War America also maintained many cultural artifacts of the 1950’s even well into the 2070’s Comically rabid anti-communism, trans Atlantic accent being prominent amongst public figures, idealization of the nuclear family (no pun intended), and so on..
I love how the show highlights what perks and Special points each character might have. Examples being; Cooper with Bloody mess & Cannible, Lucy having Lone Wanderer, and Maximus have Idiot Savant.
What I really like is Hank Mclean is pretty much a Fallout protagonist of his own story. Man leaves vault to find wife, ends up blowing up an entire city and killing his wife in the process. I also believe he left the vault genuinely out of love for Lucy's mother and the background behind his decision to destroy the city is a lot more murky than what was laid out by Muldaver and it has to do with "the fall" of shady sands that preceded the destruction of it.
I think the fall of shady sands is more related to a plague that was going and with the NCR using most of its resources to fight Caesar' s legion at the hoover dam. Hank could have just dealt with wife and kidnapped lucy back to the vault without destroying the city but for some reason he did , hopefully the second season explains his wicked decision to destroy a civilization with a nuke.
@@samgome01 We know why. Reclamation Day. You can't create the perfect society if some other society is camping out in your spot. Think about Lucy's reaction to the NCR. The Vault was told their job is to rebuild civilization their way. You can't rebuild civilization if it already exists with their own values.
@@JcBravo8 Not only that but Hank flat out says as much, that he has to eliminate all the factions. "If the problem with the world is factions endlessly fighting, endlessly at war, then what is the solution but to get rid of the factions"? He just doesn't seem to recognize that he himself is just part of another faction. And that all of them have the exact same idea, get rid of all the rival factions until "ours" is the only one left.
I liked the weird sex conversation for two reasons. First when you know Lucy's vault, they are basically raised to be breeders, thats why she is so comfortable about being blunt and casual incest with her cousins at the beginning. And for Maximus its hilarious because thats either the rumors or teachings of those raised in the Brotherhood to keep them celebate and pure for their mission. Its wacky cult stuff and it was weird and hilarious.
The Brotherhood isn't celibate. They have children all the time, and ones with combat aptitude are raised to be squires. Originally, Maximus was supposed to be a young teenager, which is why he doesn't know how his dick works, and acts so childishly. There was no sex stuff in the original script. The change, very poorly implemented, is how we get weird inconsistencies like Maximus wanting to be a knight, which would necessitate going out in the wasteland, and then changing his mind and deciding he wants to live in a Vault with Lucy, who was more like a mother figure to him. For a child, this makes sense. For an adult military man, it does not. Similarly, Maximus knows about some dangers of the wasteland, more than Lucy does initially, but he doesn't know all of them or fight very well because his training is not complete. It wouldn't be if he was 14 or whatever. But because they cast an adult actor, who is like 35 years old, it implies that Maximus has been training for decades and is either kinda dumb, or that the Brotherhood intentionally trains its squires poorly.
The Brotherhood can't be that clueless about sex/have an aversion to it. There's one point early on where one of the initiates is fapping under his sheets while in the bunk house, and there are other initiates around. If anything pertaining to sex was a no no, you'd think someone likely would have reported him to a higher up.
@@arcdecibel9986 Well Maximus is also a moron who didn't manage to learn a single thing despite practically growing up in a school. 😂 It was completely in character for both of them
Hank Maclean got help from the Enclave to destroy Shady sands. He told them about his vault. The Enclave used this info in their plans to rebuild the wasteland in the future with a docile unmutated population. Hank had to give them something. Possibly, he gave them the cold fusion as well. ( He knew he had to unlock it, so he had insurance)
Or are the Enclave and Vault-Tec the same faction? Think about it - every time we've seen the Enclave they've been attempting to exterminate everyone who's not them, so they can repopulate America. That's pretty much Vault-Tec's philosphy in this show. Kill off everyone else -> we win.
I think Vault-Tec's Management plan for is more sinister. I think Vault-Tec put selfdestruct devices in all the vaults and the Management team has remote access to activate those vaults... this makes sense because Bud would have to have planned for any rogue vaults that went against the VT plan. Lore wise, it wouldn't be the first time Vault 15 was moved as it changed locations between FO1 and FO2. Shady Sands grew up around Vault 15, so it wouldn't be much of a stress to say that Vault 15 was smack dab in the middle of Shady Sands in the TV series and that Henry just activated the vault's self destruct sequence.
@@Stray7the fact that it's STILL not specified where he got a freaking nuke is so dumb. Can't believe all they said was "it was him. Shady sands was him". Like okay. Did he pull a nuke out his ass?
the "ghoul cure" is not a cure, its radaway. You can clearly see that Maximus administers the same yellow fluid to Lucy to treat her radiation sickness, he also refers to the medicine as Radaway. It appears to be a new bit of lore added to the world that ghouls need to constantly take radaway to stave off going feral, as we know that radiation is what makes Ghouls feral.
Tbh this is still just lazyness to advance the plot. Unless all of necropolis, all of the pre war ghouls took radaway and never talked about it. Because that would be a lot of volume.
the ghoul cure is chemotherapy, basically. It's explained to be a cocktail of drugs that non-irradiated humans can't handle and ghouls also can't really handle, but can handle just enough so that it will slow the spread of the radiation. Think of ghouls like human tumors, the goal of chemo is to take drugs that will kill you, but will hopefully kill the tumor before it kills you yourself. So ghouls are basically taking potent mixes of miscellaneous drugs to try and staunch what's basically like a full-body cancer.
this just isnt true radaway as given to lucy is known as radaway and is identical to the game, the ghoul serum is never directly connected to radaway or even said to be rad away at any point in the show
I dont think the ghoul revived dog meat because he was reminded of his own dog. He immediately said, let's go find your dad... because you know, dogs are known for tracking scents and knowing what their owner smells like.I thought it was a moment of humanity at first too, until he said that.
Yeah I only got the impression that he revived the dog to use it to track them down. He was nice to the dog later because, yeah, he liked dogs. He was a ghoul after all.
In "Sounds of Freedom" in F4 you meet Dogmeat's original "owner" Mama Murphy, and she says Dogmeat will follow the survivor until he wishes to leave, because he's "his own man." Coop's got a similar philosophy. Dog's not his, just a friend. And friends have their own business to take care of sometimes.
One of my favorite subtle references is every time a character is “wandering” or exploring, one of the old timey iconic songs plays, just like in the game, when you are exploring, that’s when you are most likely listening to the radio, thought that was a great subtle reference.
One theory I have about the “one-shot power armor plot hole” Is that: it’s mentioned twice that the power armor maximus was in possession of is that it had “the tempered lining” Tempering is a type of heat treatment used to toughen certain metals, maybe it was this tough lining that stopped the ghoul from killing him?
That’s what figured since they definitely reference it and WANT you to know that his armor HAS the tempered lining. I just wonder if somebody in production realized that issue after the fact and then added it in to cover that question
IMO that was one of those things the writers threw in because it sounded cool and made a good action hero scene, but should have been left out (except it made a great "one liner") as it does not match with established "lore" it has never been a weakness in the games.
28:34 The 'Fall of Shady Sands' occurred BEFORE the nuking of Shady Sands. The arrow clearly delineates the two. The Mushroom Cloud simply lacks a title, because it's obvious.
3:30 i heard that part of the reason the props are so good is because they got basically every cosplayer who'd sign an NDA to contribute their most excellent fan-made props. Almost 3000 contributors.
I'm sure they got paid for their props, they can add it to their resume and use them for a reference. It's actually a good idea and kinda weird that more studios don't do that. But the unions are very powerful and that would be taking about work from a union job so idk, Hollywood is stupid
Do people consider them good? I feel like every scene has something out of place or janky looking, that it was a monumental task and they tried their best but I have to constantly suspend my disbelief if I pay any real attention.
I think is mentioned that Coop's flashbacks happened 2 years prior to the bombs drop, so it make sense in the concept of dates, considering Rob Co adquire Repconn the year before the nuclear destruction
Yes. This meeting taking place before 2075 makes sense. It gives time for the Howards' divorce process to happen as well, assuming the "alimony" quip at the beginning of ep1 is relevant.
I think many of his flashbacks are multi years before the bombs. His friend had only recently voiced the Mr. Handys, need time for them to get out. At the birthday party in the beginning the one guy mentions him doing the cowboy act is to pay for alimony. Asking where his family is..... much still unshown.
The Brotherhood and their strange new culture is what really fascinates me. *The West Coast Brotherhood "synthesized" and combined with Caesar's Legion.* Maximus? Titus? Thaddeus? Quintus? All names you'd hear assigned to Legion raised individuals. In older games, members would have either regular American sounding names or older names like Rhombus (FO1), Ashur (FO3), and Cyrus (FO:BOS). They were never Latin/Roman, they would always be other kinds of languages like Greek, Sumerian, and Persian origin. The use of advanced tech like Power Armor can be easily explained as being reserved for veterans and proven warriors, just like in the Legion were only Centurions and veteran members were allowed to wield advanced tech. Most of the squires have weaker and less advanced gear and equipment. They also apply more religious and ritualistic activities, like the branding of squires and all the other pseudo-religious hogwash that we see in the show. This could be a way of reinstilling the same zealotry that Legionnaires upheld when serving Caesar. Also, just like how the Legion erased identities of the tribes it would conquer, the Brotherhood erased the Legion but only in name. They retained a lot of what the Legion would be known for or at least would very likely accept as customs. It was Legion Remnants that synthesized with the Western BoS. It’s how they got so strong on West Coast again. It’s how they have a Base on the Utah Salt Flats (Legion Territory) As the BoS they remove advanced technology from everyone else, they are forced to adapt or die. The Red and Gold BoS Banners, the Latin names…the Cultish Clerics. Quintus even calls his forces a “Legion” not a Chapter. When Elder Cleric Quintus says “we used to rule the Wasteland” he is talking about Caesar’s Legion. The “New Brotherhood” he talks about making? It’s the fulfillment of Caesar’s dreams. *The 88th Tribe. The Greatest of both Parties and the Removal of Weakness. A synthesized Legion.*
OK this is good headcanon. In fact, it's so good I know it will not turn out to be this way and I'm already pre-disappointed that it will never be this. I actually rather like the notion that, fleeing the NCR the western BoS turned to Caesar's Legion as allies with a mutual enemy, and after New Vegas diminishes the legion as well as leave it leaderless, the two organizations merged. Call it the Legion of Steel, or the Steel Legion, and you have a cool name to go along with it too.
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe “We will take power, and with the Relic in hand, we shall start a New Brotherhood. With me as it’s head, and you as it’s sword.” Just imagine if in Season 2 we get a Flashback revealing that Elder Cleric Quintus was a former Legion Legate before joining the BoS. Words cannot describe how much I would love that.
that would be a crazy way to take it, and i love it. i can see Caesar dies, the legion fractures but legate Quintus takes the troops under his command and effectively absorbs them into what's left of the western brotherhood, using their tech to reach out to the east, and start plotting the rise of his brotherhood legion. a legion with tech would be terrifying indeed. would all be a fantastic season 2 "reveal" bomb to drop to make people excited for a season 3.
Maybe remnants from Caesar’s Legion managed to join the BOS without them knowing of their true pasts. Some of them managed to move up the ranks and transform the California Brotherhood into this. At least they’re not enslaving women and children or crucifying people.
@@yanderefangirl8317 …maybe they are still doing some brutal things though. Knight Titus says “You know what they do to Initiates who fail? They hang you by your lungs!” He could be lying just to scare Maximus, but after seeing how they brand Initiates, it doesn’t seem impossible…
How many people are just now discovering this channel after all these years? It's an absolute treasure trove of Fallout deep dives and great narration.
This is unrelated, but, any time i see something being described as a "treasure trove" i am forced to think of 'The Globgogobgalab' and his line at the start of his song "I am the Globgogobgalab, I love books, and this library, is a true treasure trove." Anyway yeah weekly mid-to-long length video essays about fallout is great, i especially love the character deep dives.
The sliding doors on the cars were unnecessary. No one would have said anything. But when I saw that, I knew how much dedication everyone had on this show. You go out of your way to do something that shows up at the bottom of a frame for two seconds. Seriously amazing.
20:14 he put cold fusion in his head to make it easier to take and hide. He also works for the enclave like you said which if I remember correctly worked closely with vault tec so it would indeed make sense that he could know about her vault
My girlfriend who has never played a fallout game in her life, saw the timeline and took it as the fall of shady sands was a different event than the mushroom cloud. That’s how timelines work. The canon is perfectly intact 😌
That’s how I took it as well. And, my memory is hazy I admit, that year of the fall is the same year as the first battle of Hoover dam, which if I remover correctly was supposed to have major negative effects on the moral of the NCR.
I agree as well. I see 2277 as the start of the fall of the NCR. Shady Sands being nuked doesn't mean the NCR was completely destroyed before New Vegas. Remnants of the NCR could've moved east-bound to New Vegas and set up posts. Looking at it from this perspective, New Vegas is absolutely still canon.
Repconn was sold in late 2076. The prewar story shown in the show is probably some years before the bombs dropped. In that case it makes sense that repconn would still be an independent company.
@@sierra1513there's Brahman meat all over the floor. It's not OBVIOUS. But also the problem is that their defining factor isn't that they're cannibals. It's that they're druggies. In the wasteland anyone's a cannibal as you saw from the Ghoul. They have to survive. But drugs aren't needed to survive. That's just greed. Which is the Fiends
Definitely the fiends as a whole eat people. Not exclusively, but it doesn't need to be exclusive for a BoS squire to be told all fiends are to be killed because they eat people. BoS are known to brainwash in training
@shogunpug4071 to the BoS they'd be trained to view them all as cannibals before drug addicts. If Coop was talking about them he might have describe them differently.
Debunking the overseer plot hole, the overseers are voted democratically for an 4 year office, although all 31ers held overseer positions and maybe kept getting voted back into office. But when things weren’t too glum, they needn’t necessarily vote 31 The fight between a suited maximum and the ghoul plot hole can be debunked by saying maximum was wearing additional armour…… 🤓
34:02 - The statement "there's no cure" is true. In the show the drug doesn't cure "feral ghoul" because they need to take those drugs multiple times. The drugs just suppress the symptoms for a while. (Symptoms = turning into a feral ghoul)
I think the cringy dialogue makes sense, max probably didn’t have any sexual education and the addition of poor social skills lead to that dialogue and Lucy was raised to be a breeder so sex isn’t sacred or anything
The 2277 and nuked bit, as was pointed out by someone, seems to indicate that the NCR was beginning its downfall then. And then the arrow pointing to the mushroom cloud can indicate a passage of time. The 'Fall of Shady Sands' can indicate the beginning of a decline, not necessarily its nuking.
I’m not adverse to this theory, but “Fall of” usually denotes that something has fallen, not declined, especially when used to refer to cities. If it were the NCR declining, it would be the “Fall of the NCR,” like the Fall of Rome. It’s semantics but tbh I really think they just made a mistake with the dates
@@evmtuck Little fun fact for ya, we don't actually know when rome fell. There were years where rome began to fall into decline and we chose the year where rome was unable to enforce its power on subjugated regions and began to fracture. Much like how the NCR was at one time subjugating a whole region (the mojave), its likely this is the Fall date they point to, and not that the NCR fell suddenly, because even in New Vegas, many of the NCR aligned peoples talk about how the NCR is doing too hot as a result of their decade or more of being in the Mojave.
Event, then arrow represent passage of time, new event, more passage of time, new event, then passage of time, fall of shady sands, passage of time, bomb. Not really that hard to read. Library card. If it ends around the same time as “fall of” that could also just mean keeping records wasn’t important since the city is already falling apart.
Just a note on one of the smaller "flaws" pointed out: In today's real world, it is not unusual for one corporation to swallow up another (making them a subsidiary), but STILL have them identify as a separate entity for business purposes -OR- PARTICULARLY for governmental reasons. Case and point: I work for a company purchased by another larger company. The company I work for, and the company that owns the company I work for both have different contracts with different states, there are even states where we both have contracts. For legal/regulatory reasons, we are considered legally distinct entities, and there is information that is legally required to be kept separate as well (we can't just merge our databases or store them even on the same server, even though we are owned by the parent company). I say all this, because you pointed out that it was flawed to include a company that was previously bought up by RobCo... And realistically, I don't think it's that odd at all. They would still have potentially useful perspectives that RobCo proper might not. Again, you stated it as a small flaw, but with perspective this doesn't seem like a flaw at all. (None of this is to negate other flaws you point out, just addressing this one).
@@Gambit0590 Agreed. The show makes it clear that they were separated at the least, but I BELIEVE it was said that she filed for divorce after catching him (I could be mistaken there, I haven't had as much time to soak in all the details of the show as I have with the games).
The main issue is people are making assumptions about the time line. It is a flashback scene to an unknown point prior to the war, but I see lore channels treating it as if it happened the day before the bombs dropped.
Just because shady Sands is destroyed, doesn’t mean the NCR is completely destroyed and it would kind of make sense why the NCR had so much trouble getting supplies in new Vegas!
Repconn at the meeting makes sense considering the meeting happened years before 2077. The vaults were just being discussed and Cooper wasn’t divorced yet. My head canon has House leaving that meeting and starting his preparations eventually buying Repconn in 2076
About Wilzig's knowledge, I think it makes sense that he knows this. He has ties to Moldaver, and Moldaver knows about vault 33. vault 33 is an important point in the NCR timeline after all. It makes sense that he has special interest in vault 33.
I also imagine the reason wilzig injected that thing in his head when he did was because Moldaver told him she finally captured a vault-tec employee who had the authority codes to activate the cold fusion reactor. Lucy reveals to Wilzig that her father was taken by Moldaver. So it was just a matter of putting 2 and 2 together so to speak.
Not just that, but the enclave had a lot of vault knowledge. That was the big plot point of fallout 2, where the enclave was killing everyone in the vaults. So its very possible that they knew were vault 33 was, what it's mission was, and how it operated. Knowing the projector would be easy if they had access to logistics records. It took me a long time to realize that the enclave didn't just shoot up the vaults in fallout 2 out of cartoonish villainy, they did it because every vault was a dangerous experiment.
Not to mention Wilzig is a member of the Enclave. Who are the remnants of the US government. Meaning that they'd probably have knowledge about the Vault experiments.
The weak point in the armor is not a plot hole. The ammo that he used to exploit that weakness was something he got at Super Duper Mart, so he could not have used that against Maximus because he did not have the nuclear bullets.
I've been waiting for your take. I'm glad you liked it. Many fans of the older games seem to take issue with the show. A couple of possibilities to answer your plot holes: 1. When Coop talks about the flaw in the Power Armour, he loads a specific type of ammo. He didn't have that in his gun when he first met Maximus. 2. The Brotherhood in the show seem to operate on propaganda. That's a common thing. Maximus was probably TOLD that fiends were cannibals. The SHOW tells us that the woman wanted the Pip Boy, not ass jerky. 3. While the list you displayed DOES show a short list, Vault 31 had A LOT of cryo tubes. And no one said they all went into the tubes as a unit. It stands to reason that Hank doesn't know everyone, but trusts the process enough to assume it's a pre war person. The problem is that it's repeatedly stated that THIS woman is known by everyone, pre and post War. 4. They put a big arrow and question mark on why Wilzig knew so much about 33. It was far too pointed to think that they just did it accidentally. I have to assume they'll answer that mystery eventually.
He knows her because of his wife and that he had been on the surface. The Ghoul states that the Moldaver he knew was a different one. So this is likely a grand daughter.
@@sashmiel6566 He didn't QUITE say the she was a "different one" Just that she looked different. Different hair cut, stuffy dress, horn rims. Having her be a Great Grand Daughter(or more) is possible...but I suspect there's something else going on there.
As a fan of the older games (been playing FO since '98 or '99), I liked it. So many games adaptations are horrendously bad and not reflective of the look and feel of what they're emulating, this show manages to capture the universe really really well, so I don't mind looking past the odd plothole or break from lore.
Fans of the older games not liking something that isn't FO1 or 2 or NV. I am SOOOOOOOO shocked. If they had it their way Fallout would just be this dead ip from the 90's that only so many dedicated die hard fans like and they guard it to keep others away. A cult classic that they never want to actually be popular because then it wouldn't be so exclusive.
As for the plot holes 1. The ghoul recognized how terrible maximus was at using power armor so he was toying with maximus for fun. 2. After the ghoul one shot that bos member all of them were visibly afraid. Their superiority complex was shattered and they were panicking. Wouldn't be surprised if they couldnt think straight due to the ghouls psychological warfare tactics
Yeah but... The show actually shows us that power armour is worse than useless. So it's just pointless, and the Brotherhood apparently are just wasting their time caring about it.
Especially since since it is alluded to that he was a soldier and donned the armor before. HE could tell a newbie vs seasoned. and if he thought he were a threat, he would have loaded the armor piercer round.
@@lostalone9320How did you get that impression? At multiple points did they show power armour being incredibly useful, especially during the finale. I think the only times when it wasn’t so useful was when its design flaws were used against it by people who were already familiar with how the armour worked.
The weakness can be exploited by those special large AP rounds with the blue tops that he is playing with prior to shooting the knights. Small arms fire can't penetrate. After running into maximus the ghoul makes AP rounds in anticipation of another confrontation. Plothole closed.
A good review overall. With the Ghoul medicine, I never got the impression it was a pre-war chem but was a product extracted from ghoul physiology. With the Super Duper Mart, the drug sellers had a bunch of ghouls locked up, and earlier The Ghoul hacked up Roger in an effort get what little bit of medicine from Roger's system, possibly his kidney or liver, he could. I think Snip-Snip helped to harvest the captured ghouls and process their organs in a way to make the serum that holds off feral-ness. It could be that a ghoul is fine until they hit a certain level before they start to turn feral, which at that point the chem would help to stave it off.
Even if it is pre-war, that doesn't mean it was intended to prevent ghouls going feral, it could be a side effect of a drug meant for something else, which has happened multiple times in real world medicine.
I'll headcanon Cooper remembering the power armor weaknesses is because he went on that anti feral drug bender and his brain recovered enough to remind him of that He's 200+ years old.. i can bet that memory might need some effort and external stimuli to come back out
He also didn't have the correct bullet to penetrate the armor. In the scene, a few shoots focus on the bullet and seem different from anything he had. Also he could have gotten those bullets after visiting the lead farm.
@@flaviomonteiro1414 yeah, I can believe that too especially since his shots in the hallway scene sound different... but I can relate to forgetting integrral life skills in my old age more so I'll stick to that until it's more explicit 😅
The "cure" for ghouls going feral could be as simple as they discovered a common prewar drug. Happens all the time where a pre-existing drug finds a new use.
Exactly. A lot of time has passed since the bombs dropped and it wouldn't surprise me if during that time some ghouls were taking a bunch of different drugs and found that they were lasting longer than others, it's just a matter of narrowing down which one and then letting their knowledge spread.
Ox also mistakenly considers it a cure where no mention to such effect is ever made in the series. it is a med able to slow the rate of feralization... Fans of Ox we may be, but we have to acknowledge he still makes mistakes from time to time.
Personally, the cure thing... It bothered me. It does feel like a ret-con. We could play it off like it's new, but he says, "that's a lot of vials" talking about the 200 years he's been a ghoul, and, "I've always been good at making money." Referencing how he purchased all the vials over the last 200 years. So............ This does feel like a ret-con. I don't necessarily hate ret-cons. I understand that in order to tell new stories, sometimes you have to go back on things. But... I think it could have been a new thing, and it wouldn't have messed with us as much. Lots of people have been looking for a cure for a long time, so if they had made it like it's new... It would sit perfectly well with me. 🤷♀️ Oh well.
@@speedyllama8380I can live with it but the biggest ghoul "retconn" is the fact they have regeneration, not that they heal from radiation, just straight regeneration, and that they don't die like any other human, frankly I'm pretty sure they might have put that whole drug shtick in there cuz otherwise why wouldn't you wanna be a ghoul if your already butt ugly? no need for food or water? better resistances? not only immune to but healed by radiation? regeneration? NO AGING?? sure I MIGHT go feral at some point, but the chances I die or live past the point I would have lived anyway before I go feral is high.
Also, I recall (i think) a line that overseers from Vault 31 are preferred during 'times of crisis', so I assume during 'normal' times the overseer might not necessarily be from 31 (which would also make sense by letting 31 stretch out their limited supply of available people).
@@vikiai4241 When Norm looked at the records, *every* overseer was from Vault 31. So I think "times of crisis" (like the broken water pump that suddenly wasn't ever an issue again) occurred as needed. Plus the population was salted with multiple people from 31, who would all vote for the 31 leader... making it likely 31 would win anyway.
She's from the psst, but I didn't get how she got to the present. Was she frozen in vault 31 and ran away first chance she got? She doesn't seem like a Bud's bud
I loved the attention to detail, dark comedy, proving the biggest Fallout theory correct, dark themes and gore. The only problem for me is the timeline of Shady Sands, Tony-Stark flying powerarmor. I want to see a deathclaw and more energy weapons and some insane tech that is in Fallout. 9/10 for me! P.s the dog is also how he tracks the head because it knows the scent and would lead him to his target. Also, Ghoul did not have the same armor piercing gyrojet bullet he made and used in the last fight.
The running theory is that the “fall of shady sands” is supposed to mean the beginning of the fall, so the actual collapse of a unified society, it matches the year of the first battle of Hoover damn, which would make sense, and that the arrow pointing to the mushroom cloud is showing the nuking take place at a later date.
@@nathantudor5763exactly even the last date in the library document could mean that it was simply closed down because of their failing economy or that the owners were drafted to new vegas because of their shortcomings in troops
Just started playing New Vegas again last night after finishing the show, Mr. New Vegas even says the NCR squatters are seeking ‘refuge’ in Vegas. I always thought he was s**t talking, but now it seems more likely they are referring to them as refugees because their capital was destroyed. Why else would they be seeking refuge?? Just something I noticed that might allude to the timeline not actually being retconned by the fall of Shady Sands.
There is no problem with the timeline. The dropping of the nuke on SS is undated and occurs AFTER the fall of SS. They are not the same event. That is how timelines work, they're like flow charts. The question everyone should be asking is what was the fall, what events were happening, maybe that's when the one in the game fell and then they set up a new improved SS with black jack and hookers that hank found and disposed of later.
The enclave scientist knew all about Lucy's vault, AND her name, because he was involved with Muldaver in getting the tech out, and knew about the need for a vault tech exec with the code, hence, he knew all about that vault and when Lucy said she was after her Dad, of course he knew her name too.

maybe the "fall" refers to when hank turned his eyes upon shady sands, like his hatred for the NCR begun when his daughter was brought to the surface but yeah this was a big whoopsy by the show runners
21:51 honestly, I think this is because it’s the Ghoul operating without recalling on his past. Fighting for the hell of it but as his journey continues, he recollects more and uses the weakness of the suit to achieve his goal. Same when he doesn’t fire first on the kid, he’s becoming the witty sheriff rather than the ruthless outlaw
For the ghoul serum, I believe the super duper mart was harvesting a serum from the ghouls which is why they were locked up. Which is also why coop killed his old ghoul buddy.
It's so tired to hate on Halo, dude. Is it perfect? No! Is it still fucking good? Yes. People just don't understand the point of the show which is to establish an identity and personal/internal journey for Master Chief. Not muddled with our projections, decisions, wants, etc. We have to observe. See him learn what it even means to have a "self". To learn about loss. The limits of duty and loyalty and morality. Like a child having to play emotional catch-up. It's also the most watched show on ParamountPlus.
@@citizen_wayneStill really strange after the way they never took his helmet off to kinda make us feel like we were him. They really made cheif way too human in the show.
Just quickly, the plot hole of the scientist with the chip in is head I think is explained through moldavers story and Lucy’s mother. Because moldaver and Lucy’s mom are shown to have been friends. Even if moldaver didn’t live in vault 31,32, or33 im sure Lucy’s mom would have told her about the vault and her daughter. And we know that the scientist purposely escaped to bring the device to moldaver, which means they were in contact. I wouldn’t be surprised if after moldaver takes Hank, she tells the scientist to leave and try to find hanks daughter, knowing it would lead to revelations for Lucy and her mother. That’s how I understood it
Maximus said the bombs fell 12 years ago, the show takes place in 2296, so that would mean shady sands was actually destroyed in 2284. Update: Todd Howard confirms Shady Sands was destroyed after New Vegas and the fall is in reference to another event.

Incorrect. The show takes place 215 years after the bombs fell in 2077, so that would place the show at 2292, not 2296. So when Maximus says the bombs fell 12 years in 2080, that means the dates still don't add up. Show is not canon.
The vials look like Potassium Iodide liquid, which is commonly used to treat/delay symptoms of radiation sickness. They could've easily found that the liquid helps stabilize ghouls. And potassium iodide is commonly found in pharmacies. EDIT: Budesonide in asthma inhalers is also effective against radiation induced enteritis--so Potassium Iodine mixed with it through the vial and intake mixing could theoretically work too.
For me looking back the only little problem is that (SPOILERS) Hank knew Moldaver. When she explains how Rose left the vault to live in Shady Sands with her children. She met Hank. Yeah time has past since, but thats the woman his wife left her for and he just forgets her face or don't remember it when she suddenly shows up as the new overseer of 32. (I know is not a big deal it was needed for the story to happen) P.S: About the Chalkboard (SPOILERS): For me the date its the start of its fall (just like the fall of rome) because of the economic problems they were facing (BOS attack on their gold reserves / expansionist campaign) and eventually famine. Shady Sands was bombed 2282 (check wiki + deduce it from age of Maxmius and Lucy) by Hank MacLean. If it was done in 2277 Maxmius and Lucy would be much older in 2296. Fallout NV is canon happen during 2281
I'm not sure he ever actually met her. I think he just knew OF her. He clearly didn't know her name, or that would have tipped him off when she used her name while pretending to be the overseer of vault 32. I think he knew his wife left to go join this surface colony that was led by this particular person, and he realizes in that moment that "oh... You're HER, aren't you."
@@TheGoIsWin21 I can say one thing that still makes it suspicious is he knows their plan with that trio of vaults, that the overseers are supposed to always be someone from VT, a 31'er. @@TheGoIsWin21 Yeah its a possibility that they havent actually met, he did went up to take his kids back so there is a chance they have seen each other and Hank simply didn't learn who she was or pay attention to her
@@outregis it's a LITTLE bit of a plot hole that he's unaware of her as an overseer, but it's also plausible that, due to the lack of food 32 experienced that he could have understood things might have gone off the rails in that vault. If everyone from vault 31 dies of starvation without setting up a new overseer, it's not guaranteed that you'll be able to get a new one in and set up before a non-31 replacement is set up. According to the show they only do these trades every three years, so the only way the 31 guys have a way to keep tabs on the other vaults is Through their messaging. So he gets a message from a "new overseer" with a name he doesn't recognize and goes "ahh hell, it's all fucked up over there", but wouldn't immediately assume that it's surface dwellers pulling some shit.
To be fair to your first point, he says to her in the first episode "I THINK I know who you are." So I assume he had never gotten a good look at her before that. The problem with following the wiki is that the people writing it have as much information as we do and they say 2282 or other years because they want the show to be consistent with lore. The show itself is internally consistent with the date 2277. It's just an error, and I believe there was no intention of retconning or 'destroying' NV but it's an error nonetheless. We can't use Maximus or Lucy's age to deduce 2282. People make assumptions about Maximus' age because there is no evidence about his age at all. And all the information about Lucy's age is actually more consistent with a nuking of 2277. She says in episode 5 that she stopped believing the vault light was the sun when she was 6 years old, and that this was a direct result of her mom dying. She says in episode 4 that her mom died in the Great Plague of '77. For her to believe her mom died at this date she must have been 5-6 in 2277. As well it is consistent with info we get about Hank. When Norm is looking at past overseers we see that Hank was elected in 2271. Since the mustachioed man says Hank became overseer shortly after arriving, it's fair to assume that Lucy was probably born in or shortly after 2271. People really want the show to be consistent with the lore and as such will ignore or twist all this info. But sometimes mistakes happen, and the show was pretty good besides this little error.
About 22:00 remember the Ghoul said "I wonder if they fixed it" that implies he did not think of the T-45 flaw back in Filly so he simply just didint realize to test out his theory until he saw 3 t-60's and tried to figure out how to deal with them
two things i liked as a small jokes.. 1- water chip gets damaged in vault 33 after the raid . 2- lucy is looking for her "father" a theme from fallout3 and 4 (kinda, as ur looking for a family member who is called father haha).
16:23 I love Cooper Howard, and something I really appreciated to show hes not just completely heartless in the show was how he reacted to his friend that was turning into a feral Ghoul. He didnt just shoot him straight away, he wanted his friend to die remembering a nice memory. The BlamCo mac and cheese and pie, he still has a heart and still cares about people deep down. I hope by season 2 with his treck to New Vegas with Lucy he becomes more like himself before the war
I saw Coop reviving Dogmeat as serving two purposes. First and foremost, it confirms he still loves dogs/Dogmeat reminds him of Roosevelt and it's also to track down the scientist, seeing as he left a blood that could be tracked. Coop may have tried to separate himself from the dog when he abandoned it at the shoreline (after facing off with the Gulper); but its his dog now. Woe be to anyone who tries to hurt Dogmeat, now.
By the way Oxhorn Todd recently did a Q&A after the release if the show and he helped clear up most of the confusion about the NCR and such (Warning spoilers ahead) Todd confirmed the nuking if shady sands was shortly after the events of new vegas, not before Todd confirmed that all of NV is canon Todd also said we will hear more about the NCR in the future
@@draegoth Let's not argue, we are all Fallout fans and are better than that. How about we just have a friendly discussion on why Fallout BOS was the best of the games... /s
The exploding cock joke is very similar to the horror stories that I was taught in a Midwest high-school that taught abstinence. They showed us horror stories of what could happen if you had sex along with slides of the horrors of STDs. The conversation is cringe and uncomfortable but seemed very rooted in reality. And my fiancé made a great point about the oysters being a aphrodisiac, which for me made the entire scene make sense to me at least.
Plus Oxhorn is [portrays himself to be] a prudish American. Which is both cute and pathetic at the same time. Back in Ep.1 it's clearly shown that Lucy's attitude towards sex is very different from what Oxhorn is culturally used to. VERY different. To her (and her vault society) it's not a big deal at all. Their concern is clearly on genetic issues, NOT the physical side of things. So this scene that he thinks is cringeworthy is actually perfectly in character for who the two of them are. To her, sex is no big deal. While he's quite probably a virgin. And if not is far too embarrassed to talk frankly about sex. So I also found it cringey. But probably for the opposite reasons that Oxhorn did...
I think the Ghoul was just fucking with Maximus in Filly because during the entire fight hes laughing like a madman which is a common trait for chaarcters played by his actor
Not sure if this is a mistake or not. But in the Vault-Tec meeting there is a representative of Big MT. The cast lists this representative as Frederick Sinclair, the owner of the Sierra Madre Casino. While it is known that Sinclair made deals with Big MT to allow experiments to be done at the Sierra Madre, I don’t think that he was ever employed by them. So it’s surprising that Big MT would have had him present at that meeting.
In dying light they used anti seizure medicine to hold off the zombie virus. So like you said he ghouls in fallout may have found a medicine that wasn't meant to hold off feral that holds it off.
I actually hated the first episode, give me a headache trying to make sense of it and the show did get better. The Last episode was absolutely brilliant, everything clicked together perfectly, some scenes are stupid but it seemed to payoff in the end. Goggins carried the entire show and he is probably my favourite actor at the moment. I give the show 8/10.
What’s shown is a crater. And what’s said, Maximus said bombs dropped 12 years ago and show takes place in 2296, meaning bomb dropped in 2284. 3 years after new Vegas.
1. Wilzig knew Moldaver well enough to know about (and work on) her cold fusion project. Moldaver was probably Lucy's mother's lover - at the very least, they were besties. It's not a far stretch to just assume they must have talked. 2. The Ghoul didn't once seem to think he was in real danger in his fight with Maximus. He was even kind of having fun. What fun is it to just take that kill shot, when you're not really in danger. Remember, he's in it from the game. 3. The plot hole between Hank and Moldaver was how did Moldaver get to the present. She was decidedly anti-Vault-Tek. There's no way in hell she would be in that vault. No idea how she did it; but she did create cold fusion, so... she gets a pass from me. A lot of your "plot holes" seem to be because you're taking people's word for things that aren't necessarily true. Just because a body believes something doesn't mean it's so. Fallout is chock full of unreliable narrators. Shady Sands doesn't bother me. It wasn't the capital for the whole of the NCR's lifetime (there's a line about it being the first capital in New Vegas, I think). NCR might still exist without it - we're just not seeing it. Though seeing Vegas in the end there makes me think they're going to step on a lot of toes there.
And, of course, just because VaultTec has prototype tech to freeze people, doesn't mean that others don't have access to the same sort of tech. too. It increases the odds, really.
Oxhorn, although I can understand how you thought this at first, I did too, but the Robed Brotherhood guys are not Scribes. Every time they are referenced they are called *”Clerics”* for example, the Leader of the Brotherhood in the Show (who interestingly calls his Army a “Legion”…) He is named *“Elder Cleric Quintus”* and when he describes where their Orders came from, he said it came from the *”Highest Clerics of the Commonwealth”* VERY interesting that they never mention Elder Maxson…did he die and now the Clerics rule as an Oligarchy?? The BoS new history really fascinates me! But yeah Clerics =/= Scribes.
They specifically had rooms in each monastery called scriptorium. Latin was also the language of the western-church. In the show, they seem to being going with a medieval feel for the BoS. Knights ,clerics, etc
27:44 talking about Rob-Co owning Repcon; I don't think the meeting with all the big companies and Vaut-Tec was during 2077 because they were talking about not only starting the vaults and giving ideas on what experiments to do but also starting the great war so they could use said vaults. I think sometime after either the meeting or the vaults were build was when Rob-Co bought Repcon, because if I remember right they never told us what year that meeting took place
Todd Howard did an interview today. He stated this about he NCR "One of the takes that we always have is to approach things very locally when we're doing Fallout. We're careful about saying what's going on in other parts of the world. And we always take this view of, communication is difficult. And look, if you look at the background, the NCR is a wide-ranging sort of organization and group across not just California, but other places. So the show focuses on this period of time and this group here, and that's what we can say right now. But I don't think you've heard the last of the NCR" Long live the NCR!
My favorite Easter Egg was the Brick Layers lol. 200 years and even basketball is broken down to what was said about it. Incredible detail and hilarious to see on screen.
The thing that kept me invested in the show the most was honestly the mystery of the Vault 31 32 33 relationship - no spoilers but I was floored when I got to the end of that
Another thing from the lore section that you may have missed was that apparently Fredrick Sinclair was not only the rep for the big mt in the big meeting, but also that he is a larger older man which is kinda the opposite of how he is portrayed in the sierra madre mural
Its possible that he commissioned those murals to portray him in that way "when he was at his prime" That is, if that was really what he looked like "in his prime"
@@Ulqui_210 That's a really good point, it's not all that uncommon for eccentric people with money to commission art, and demand changes that make them look more flattering, or reflect them as they WANT others to see them (rather than how they really look).
I thought Sinclair was just a customer/friend of the big mt. Scientists and that he just gave them a place to try some tests why would he be the representative for it instead of the main scientists like Klein?
@@thexivthlegion1713Yes, you're correct. He contracted the services of Big Mt, did not work for them. They in turn decided to do experiments and shit in Sierra Madre without telling him.
Anyone else watch with subtitles on and notice the overseer of vault 31 was listed as "Brain on a roomba" lmfao
he was certainly no robo brain... not the bigwig he thought he was if that is all the body vaultec would spring for.
Yeah, I saw that hahahaha.
My son pointed that out today. 😂😂😂
OMG That was my first thought when I saw him! XD
Yup, & that “fiddle” was credited as minutemen radio.
When he gets Thaddeus as his squire and Thaddeus actually knows about power armor and tech because he pays attention in class 😂
Maximus doesn’t skip range day though
@NONAM.E00 true, but the first episode tells you a lot about Maximus, you see him in class daydreaming out the window 😂
Also Thaddeus spends too much time paying attention in class and needs to put some points into agility and perception. Bro couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
fiends arent cannibals??
Some are cannibals, you fight Violet who feed her dogs human flesh. She’s seen eating meat during sneak mode. Not crazy to assume she eats them too. We also have multiple fiends that do more terrible things like sell children, or rape people
I felt the funniest subtle nod to the games is when the scribe empties his 10mm pistol at two people and doesn’t hit a thing.

20:00 One of the first things Lucy tells Wilzig is that she's looking for her dad, and tells him her dad was kidnapped by Muldaver. Wilzig is trying to deliver the cold fusion tech to Muldaver, so he likely knew who her father was as part of the plan.
yes, that's how he knew her name.
I thought he tried using AP rounds when Maximus started flying off
Honestly, I'm just happy that the difference in the design of the bullets is so good that people are actually noticing it.That's an attention to detail. Most people don't bother making
I thought that too. He could have bought some AP rounds in case he went up against another guy in power armor off screen.
That line between Max and Lucy I think was really funny. I like to think of it as a failed skill check lol
That’s exactly what I came to the comments to say 😂
I also looked at it from the first episode it gave impression sex was something done to stave boredom too. Then the after eating Oysters he asked about sex as a joke for how Oysters are an aphrodisiac
I mean it is a vault dweller and a Brother hood members who's probably only be taught how to fight and about technology, so it's probably perfectly in character for them. Also Lucy pretty much said similar stuff in episode 1 lol.
Also just a little additional thing since I agree, Maximus had just been treated for that gunshot wound so he might have even been on a little med x or super stim high lol.
What Max says in that scene is what is to come with the state of sex education in America
It’s pretty obvious that the enclave guy knew everything about the vault, and Lucy because of his connection to Moldaver
Yes. He knows about Vault 33 because of its connection to Vault 31 and because Lucy and her father were there.
I love how Lucy represents so well people when they are first introduced into the Fallout universe.
Lucy - "Is that a Knight!? Wow!"
*A few episodes later*
Lucy - "Wait, aren't the Brotherhood the good guys?"
The Brotherhood - "Well, about that..."
The best part was, Both Max and Thaddeus were like "Well...in a way, but not exactly..."
Lucy would know what power armour is. Why would she refer to him as a knight?
@@braydoxastora5584 My guess is that soldiers who used power armors before the bombs fell were called Knights. The Brotherhood just uses the same name because they came from the military.

in "that scene": max says "you smell good." lucy know she's been days out in the wasteland, far from anything resembling a hot shower or soap. she even smells herself for a second. then she realizes that "you smell good." is max responding to her pheromones. being a smart, liberated vault dweller, she jumps to the correct conclusion that he's attracted to her and figures that they could just as easily pass the quarantine time by banging one out as they could just sitting there twiddling thumbs. but the Brotherhood's celibacy propaganda has its hooks too deep into max's mind
Exactly!
still kind of...
weird...
...or maybe it is us who are still not THAT opened about sex 😅
As well, isn't she from the 'breeder vault' the ones literally keep there to breed so she's been raised to breed, maybe why she says such out of pocket things around it?
Big reach
Dunno if it's been mentioned or not but lucy mentions to the ghoul that she rememebers the great plague of '77 in the vault with her mum and dad. She also mentioned she was convinced as a kid in the vault farms she could feel the sun. Im guessing what she actually rememebrs is a plauge of shady sands since she was there very young. That would explain the "fall of shady sands" before the nuke hit a few years later
This. You are the only one I saw point this out
Ooooo nice catch!
Still isn’t how the term “fall of XYZ” works.
Yes

@@owen0617 Episode 4, about a third of the way in. Lucy bites off the Ghouls finger, in exchange, he cuts off her finger.
Also considering it looked like they didn't close the blinds while Lucy and her husband had sex so anyone could look in 😆
I read this in much the same way.
This☝️
Also helped serve as an expectation subversion for the vault inhabitants. It's framed entirely like Vault 4 residents are evil and still experimenting on folks from the surface until the very end when Lucy is "sentenced to death".
- The Ghoul realized that Maximus was a beginner who didn't even know how to use Power Armor properly, so it makes sense that he didn't take the fight 100% seriously and didn't reveal important information like the flaw in the design of power armor in the middle of a city
- Not using the Helmet Flashlights was really stupid but we can say it was panic
- Hank already knew in advance that the previous Overseer who was from Vault 31 had "died during the harvest blight" so it makes sense that he wouldn't have suspected a resident unknown from Vault 32 was elected in the meantime
It's much simpler. He didn't have the right ammo. In the final scenes with the power armor he holds a new type of ammo in this hands which looks like armor pen rounds
ngl i can 100% buy that those helmet lights are just decor or that the knights didnt know how to activate them
Titus already showcases that Knights are/can be massive frauds without bravery or brain- hell, the scribe that joined Maximus seemed *shocked* that Maximus didn't just leave him to die to the mutated axolotl finger thing

This meant they became the main legal social gatherings for a generation prior to wwii and that love of ice cream Carried over into the 1950s when the troops came home. Fallout being a futuristic 1950s… this make sense to me.

@Lee-km7qq
Well except it’s also made abundantly clear throughout the game series that Pre-War America also maintained many cultural artifacts of the 1950’s even well into the 2070’s
Comically rabid anti-communism, trans Atlantic accent being prominent amongst public figures, idealization of the nuclear family (no pun intended), and so on..
I love how the show highlights what perks and Special points each character might have.
Examples being; Cooper with Bloody mess & Cannible, Lucy having Lone Wanderer, and Maximus have Idiot Savant.
Maximus is a zero charisma build
What I really like is Hank Mclean is pretty much a Fallout protagonist of his own story. Man leaves vault to find wife, ends up blowing up an entire city and killing his wife in the process. I also believe he left the vault genuinely out of love for Lucy's mother and the background behind his decision to destroy the city is a lot more murky than what was laid out by Muldaver and it has to do with "the fall" of shady sands that preceded the destruction of it.
He's doing an Evil/Low Karma playthrough
A fallout Protagonist wouldn’t be an employee of Vault-Tec.

That would also explain why the enclave guy knows so much about Lucy, he probably met Hank
I like this theory. It explains how Hank got his hands on a freaking nuke in the first place, which was MY biggest head-tilt moment.
So ghouls are basically taking potent mixes of miscellaneous drugs to try and staunch what's basically like a full-body cancer.
this just isnt true radaway as given to lucy is known as radaway and is identical to the game, the ghoul serum is never directly connected to radaway or even said to be rad away at any point in the show
Then thats with the hustle to find it? Radaway is far from rare medicine if anything
You know just cause apple juice and pee are yellow, that doesnt mean they are the same liquid, right?
I dont think the ghoul revived dog meat because he was reminded of his own dog. He immediately said, let's go find your dad... because you know, dogs are known for tracking scents and knowing what their owner smells like.I thought it was a moment of humanity at first too, until he said that.
Yeah I only got the impression that he revived the dog to use it to track them down.
He was nice to the dog later because, yeah, he liked dogs.
He was a ghoul after all.
i agree, he was happy to leave the dog at the lake when he knew it would not track the head any further
One theory I have about the “one-shot power armor plot hole”
Is that: it’s mentioned twice that the power armor maximus was in possession of is that it had “the tempered lining”
Tempering is a type of heat treatment used to toughen certain metals, maybe it was this tough lining that stopped the ghoul from killing him?
That makes sense
That’s what figured since they definitely reference it and WANT you to know that his armor HAS the tempered lining. I just wonder if somebody in production realized that issue after the fact and then added it in to cover that question
It could also be that the Ghoul was playing with him.
IMO that was one of those things the writers threw in because it sounded cool and made a good action hero scene, but should have been left out (except it made a great "one liner") as it does not match with established "lore" it has never been a weakness in the games.

The Brotherhood and their strange new culture is what really fascinates me.
*The West Coast Brotherhood "synthesized" and combined with Caesar's Legion.*
Maximus? Titus? Thaddeus?

Just a note on one of the smaller "flaws" pointed out:
In today's real world, it is not unusual for one corporation to swallow up another (making them a subsidiary), but STILL have them identify as a separate entity for business purposes -OR- PARTICULARLY for governmental reasons.

And I felt like Moldaver and Rose were lovers.
So, Moldaver knew everything about Vault 33... Guaranteed.
A couple of possibilities to answer your plot holes:
1. When Coop talks about the flaw in the Power Armour, he loads a specific
type of ammo.
@@sashmiel6566 he just meant she looked different as in the way she dressed and acted.
As for the plot holes
@@lostalone9320 Something for them to fix themselves.
I thought the exact same thing, when the ghoul started cutting into Roger I immediately was like “oh it’s spinal fluid!” but that didn’t happen lol
Fantastic catch about the ghouls in the Super Duper. I assumed they were *just* for body parts, but you gave me a new POV. Great eye.
I'll headcanon Cooper remembering the power armor weaknesses is because he went on that anti feral drug bender and his brain recovered enough to remind him of that
He's 200+ years old.. i can bet that memory might need some effort and external stimuli to come back out
He also didn't have the correct bullet to penetrate the armor.
The overseer (Hank) knew who Moldaver was ( I think ) - he was just playing innocent to not blow his own cover.
Also, I recall (i think) a line that overseers from Vault 31 are preferred during 'times of crisis', so I assume during 'normal' times the overseer might not necessarily be from 31 (which would also make sense by letting 31 stretch out their limited supply of available people).

Todd Howard confirmed today that Shady Sands was nuked after New Vegas

That would have been really cool if the show had used it.
(I know is not a big deal it was needed for the story to happen)
P.S: About the Chalkboard (SPOILERS): For me the date its the start of its fall (just like the fall of rome) because of the economic problems they were facing (BOS attack on their gold reserves / expansionist campaign) and eventually famine.
The ghoul reminds me of that one uncle that throws you in the water to teach you how to swim. Standing there with a cig and a beer in hand watching.

1- water chip gets damaged in vault 33 after the raid .
2- lucy is looking for her "father" a theme from fallout3 and 4 (kinda, as ur looking for a family member who is called father haha).
I wouldn't be mad if Oxhorn made a breakdown video of each episode

Oxhorn doesn’t do research. At least not much.
I think the Ghoul was just fucking with Maximus in Filly because during the entire fight hes laughing like a madman which is a common trait for chaarcters played by his actor
I agree with this He was having a good time. I think he instinctively knew that he wasn't really a knight
It could have just been an easter egg too.
In dying light they used anti seizure medicine to hold off the zombie virus. So like you said he ghouls in fallout may have found a medicine that wasn't meant to hold off feral that holds it off.

Why is everyone not wanting this timeline? Lol.

Oxhorn, although I can understand how you thought this at first, I did too, but the Robed Brotherhood guys are not Scribes. The BoS new history really fascinates me! But yeah Clerics =/= Scribes.
clerics/monks in medieval period were scribes. They did vast quantity of copying and writing books from the classical period and history.
They specifically had rooms in each monastery called scriptorium. Latin was also the language of the western-church.

My favorite Easter Egg was the Brick Layers lol. 200 years and even basketball is broken down to what was said about it. Incredible detail and hilarious to see on screen.
There's plenty of basketball hoops all over the Fallout universe where they had used things like beer bottles to score.
Its possible that he commissioned those murals to portray him in that way "when he was at his prime"
That is, if that was really what he looked like "in his prime"
@@Ulqui_210 That's a really good point, it's not all that uncommon for eccentric people with money to commission art, and demand changes that make them look more flattering, or reflect them as they WANT others to see them (rather than how they really look).
I thought Sinclair was just a customer/friend of the big mt. Scientists and that he just gave them a place to try some tests why would he be the representative for it instead of the main scientists like Klein?
@@thexivthlegion1713The Big MT is a think tank meaning it doesn't really have any CEOs so a large investor would make sense
@@thexivthlegion1713Yes, you're correct. He contracted the services of Big Mt, did not work for them. They in turn decided to do experiments and shit in Sierra Madre without telling him.
I know this came out before the todd interview, but, it’s worth noting that the fall of shady sands happens WELL BEFORE THE NUKE
