I just one of these and while it looks like the body is made of some soft wood for the core and there is a wood veneer for the skins, it appears to me that the top bookmarked skin is actually a photo film on the skin. I have not done any distructive testing, but the skins of the laminate are so thin that I cannot imagine how one would manufacture this at a reasonable cost if the skin itself if bookmarked. Neverthe less, still a good bargain baritone.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I looked very closely at the one I have and I can attest that is very obvious that the body is made of a wood laminate (not HPL) and has a veneer of wood and not a photo film. The finish is open grain so it is very obvious on mine that it is wood veneer. It is also obvious that the center layer in the laminate is a lighter color wood. I'm guessing that the center layer may be something like okoume.

Hey, Steve. I just got my CB207A and was a little disappointed. The wood grain didn't look anything like the photo on Amazon and I can see now that yours doesn't either. I guess they do enhance things to sell them. And hooked into the amp it sounded great, but acoustically, weak compared to my Kmise and Kala. It's the body depth. Online it says it's 3.54 inches but I measured it and it's not even quite 3. So now I am emailing Caramel about what to do. I don't know if I can trust the specs on other ukes as far as body depth.

That's one of the problems with the look of wood grain, it can vary from instrument to instrument. The acoustic sound is likely more due to the type of wood used rather than the depth of the body. I just measured my Caramel and my Makala MKB. They are both 3 inches at the waist. I always take stats with a grain of salt! I often see errors in Amazon stats. On some descriptions (not Caramel), I have seen the body materials described as three different woods on the same page. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I should probably find out what wood my Kmise Tiger Flame is made of then because that's the sound I like even though I know it is cheap.

I gotta say... I've never played a baritone (not because I don't want to but it's just never happened). I know its the same as Chicago Tenor tuning so it would feel familiar... but to date... I haven't even held one. That said, I can see why people like them. The Chicago tuning is really intuitive. Kinda odd that they gave you a chord sheet that doesn't apply. LOL. It looks pretty good though.

I love baritone ukuleles! I have them tuned both DGBE and gCEA!

Hi Steve. For those who find baritone ukuleles to be overly large with great fret separation than what is typical for the other sizes, do you think the Aklot or Kmise 5 string ukuleles would be a good compromise alternative if greater base sounds are wanted? Always appreciate your reviews and opinions.

Baritone is my favorite size. I find the sopranos and concerts cramped. If you find the baritone too big, the tenor is a good choice for getting lower tone, especially if you decide to tune it low G (GCEA) or DGBE. I really like the Aklot and Kmise 5-string tenors!
