THIS IS THE GREATEST ALEXA TUTORIAL ON THE WEB THE MOST CLEAR AND EASY TO FOLLOW!
he explains everything and it's up today 5 out of 5 stars this is number 1
and will recommend to anyone looking for a vid! thank you so much great tutorial!!
Good stuff thanks for the how-to.
My daughter and I followed Matthew's instructions last night and we got it working no problem in about 3 hours. The two other youtube videos we tried to learn from before we found this one were wrong or missing information.
The only change I would suggest is that it took us about 1 hour and 5 minutes to build/install where Matthew says it will take 30 min (at 7:33 in the video). Might want to put some text in there indicating the possibility of much longer installs at this step.
Oh, and we used a Samson Go Mic Portable USB Condenser mic. We read in a few places that the raspberry pi software tends to be sensitive to what particular usb mic one uses. Not sure if this is true.
it works but the wake word dosnt work, and an error about sample rate any ideas? also how to auto start the alexa pi app upon startup?
I am having A hard time installing Alexa on Raspberry Pi 3 with Noobs version 4.2 . Problem during the cd javaclient && mvn exec:exec it says The error was "Unable to load library 'vlc': Native library (linux-arm/libvlc.so) not found in reso
Got it to work second time around, thanks, but how do i keep it running without having all the terminal windows open? I'd like it to go into @sleep' when not in use but wake up with the wake word. Any idea? thanks
Any idea why my Java Client says, "Tap to speak to Alexa", rather than the listening function as displayed in your tutorial? Wake word was activated in my installation options. Thanks for the helpful video!
hi thkx for the video i done it it was a gr8 help but can u please tell me how to run it without the codes after i restart the rasberry pi
Just big thanks! Question though, I noticed since your video the music part of the Amazon Dev section has changed, and can't even apply for it. How can we go about doing this? I noticed in campanion settings I set up stations, but she still says not supported. So I guess since she is a 'echo' she won't do the full tower experience with music. I guess thats a tradeoff amazon disabled for Pi users. Cant let us have EVERYTHING for free. Which I understand, them just giving us this much and being official is a big enough gesture.
Where do we submit this, vis their TOS, from their Getting Started Guide about Enable Media,

So i got to the last part where you log back into amazon and when it's supposed to say device tokens ready, instead it comes up with an amazon error page. Help please
I also have a same problem....
i get to one point where the terminal asks me for github user name and password. I made one on github and it wont except it.
So cool but what if i reboot the pi ?
I think that way i have to do again this all stuff
What Happens if I reboot the pi?
With no offense. Why one will spend 100+ USD & several hours to build Alexa if we get ready made amazon echo for 40usd. Just curious.
once you have it on the pi you can do way more with it and completely customise it
fatal: unable to access 'github.com/alexa/alexa-avs-sample-app.git/': Failed to connect to github.com port 443: Connection timed out
please help me through it
how would you add this to a smart mirror
Vlogsy Gamer. did you build the smart mirror yet?
How do I enter my location? It says I am in Seattle but I am in Europe.
Download Alexa companion app from store, and settings there.
The app is not available worldwide on google play. I can't download it.
Also how big does your SD card have to be ?
about 8gb
So wait im confused... Did you set up the amazon part on the pi or on your computer ?
you can set it up on the pi, or the computer. it is done through a Web browser
I'm confused on whether to get Jasper or Alexa... Help please
Rahiel Rahman Try both!
RP0?
How to make auto-start Alexa ,start Raspberry Pi after auto-start Alexa with wake word ,mean i plug DC in Raspberry Pi then start after sometime Auto ready Alexa with wake word. without type cmd
can tell you worked on this awhile, because it was published March 1
and is giving you weather about February 9th..

hey, when I finish can I close the terminal tab and it still work?
also can I unplug it from the TV? and make a 3d printed case and have like a little Alexa in a box? and it still work?
You can minimze the tabs, then unplug it from the tv yes it will work. Just say alexa and It will respond. You could have an Alexa in a box
+Matthew Gillen hi I get an error message right at the end that says
something like
"error with audio port turning voice recognition off
"
is it cause I tried to use headphones for my first test and not 3rd party powered speakers?
It is possible to activate this automatically at login ... so you don't need to ssh in at every boot.
First you need to use this FORKED version of the Alexa app.
Read the following page - the comments will lead you in the right direction.
github.com/alexa/alexa-avs-sample-app/pull/431
Then you need to write 3 scripts that activate the 3 terminal commands at boot... This will skip the Amazon login at every boot and works GREAT for me.
Talbot Simons haha that's awesome! I am going to check that out, some guys and I on reddit are working on a script that just auto clicks everything but you have to enter the mouse coordinates. I will check this out
No need to do that. It's been done already! 😎
+Matthew Gillen you helped me I found out one of the tabs were closed for the terminals 😖
when I signed this. one question device up it never asked me about the music, I would like to have some kind of music to be able to play how do I set it up?
great Idea!
could you explain what to type in the 3 terminals
where to put them what to put them, cuz I couldn't understand the forum
