    It's amazing what people will spend money on, whe a simple find and a little ingenuity will suffice! Nowadays, everyone is a "new parts" person!! My dad was born in 1905 and was a mater mechanic in both diesel and gasoline engines! He always complained about the new parts people! Of course, he grew up in in an era where one had to "make do" with whatever they could MAKE!
    Good job! Simple, yet completely functional and you are teaching your children to see how things work and to be able to, when needed, make a part instead of having to buy it! Besides, as you said, you couldn't find what you needed, anyway! Thanks for posting your videos! SOME may find them corny but, each of
    them has good value for those of us that don't have the bucks to always run to the hardware store, or, simply don't want to, when something handmade is just as useful!

    If that latch ever quits "sticking up", just mount a magnet to the wall above the hinge. Hope there's no copyright to your latch cause I'm going to infringe, lol!
    God bless you and your family!

    • @BacktotheBasics101

      I have seen some that are heavy enough that would work but this is not one of them, if a cow hit the gate it would just bend the hinge.

    I do a lot of work with EPDM as a roofer. Ill be using it to cover my cattle panel hoop, whenever I get my truck running well enough to pick up some catle panels.
    Are you able to set up water catchment pm the back end of the coop?

  • @oldoldpilgrim7898
    @oldoldpilgrim7898 3 года назад

    Sharpening stones similar than that are very expensive and mounting yours to sharpen tools would make a nice video. You could fill the hole with concrete and while you're at it, consider digging down a few inches and casting a heavy block the width of the gate to make it less likely predators would dig under it and eat your chickens.

    Since you already have the best cordless tool in your hand, Milwaukee, get yourself the impact driver to go along with the drill, same battery, charger, etc. Watch for a deal to get a combination, or whatever. Once you use an impact driver, just for running screws, that drill will grow cobwebs in the ol' toolbag! That is if you don't already have one.

    • @BacktotheBasics101
      @BacktotheBasics101  4 года назад

      I love my impact, miss placed it though probably floating around in one of my ranch pick ups. I’m surprised how many people don’t use impacts & still use drills.
      I agree.

    Great! I would like to hear a holistic rancher's approach to chicken feed? Back story- I'm a free range chicken fan, and from about may till October dont feed them. Winter they get 13 dollars a bag store bought feed. Well my wife is not a fan of free range chickens, as such the chickens have a chicken fence in their future. They already get all our kitchen scraps just wondering if you have any tricks for feeding them cheaper?

    Luke, I don't mean to hijack the theme of your video here, but I wanted to ask you what can be done about youtube/Facebook censorship? I feel like anything with a conservative leaning is getting buried. I am concerned that youtube and Facebook are the only avenues available for free speech anymore, and those avenues are being buttoned up. I know you are a ND Representative so I thought you could point a guy in the right direction. Again sorry it's off topic
