@DJarr216 right. Guess we learned something new, but we totally got ripped off by that rental company. Guy point on the super nice car salesman act and we fell for it. Made it sound like without the insurance we had to pay a 1000 or more deposit. Upgraded us to a more expensive car and made it sound like he was doing us a favor. Hard lessons learned on this trip, but never again will we go through them.
We booked through Discover Cars. the name of the rental company was U-Save but the documents all said Green Motion (guessing they are under the same umbrella). They'll let you think they are the friendliest people on the planet while up-selling you. 😅
If visiting cities by car, most economical way is to look for a “park and ride” in the outskirts. Currently £5 for car parking (16 hrs) & two adults travelling to city centre (and back) on the bus, if memory serves.

Awesome. I'm glad that dodgy coin flip was ignored. You'd already teased. I'm not even a Harry Potter fan (Just too old for it, my little sister got into it). My little brother and his family live in Oxford. If my niece hadn't been ill, i'd be looking out for them. Great video, and i think my next visit might copy your visit. Possibly not the nail, but i'm up for a new cow friend
YES!!! SCRAPPLE!!! I've spent years trying to explain to my wife what black pudding was. My mother was born in Ipswich and later went to Oxford. So explaining to my New Orleans bride of 30 years has been tough. But we had scrapple often when we lived in the Hampton Roads area. Btw. Love the channel. Glad I found u guys on Nara and Kate's channel.
As a local, if you were to go in summer the Turf Tavern is a great option for food and drinks especially when students around as its got a great atmosphere and is a really cool spot as its the only city walled pub garden in the city. Also, check out New College - its cloisters were used in Harry Potter and it's one of the most beautiful colleges imo. Love the content tho!
You two are the most adorable couple! Love your travel vlogs, funny, informative, down to earth. Love your cheerful outlook even when things are challenging. ❤🇨🇦
The books are great! I refuse to watch the shows. And now that you say it's not good, I definitely won't watch them! Oxford is on my list for the next time. I went in March and did the Harry Potter studio tour and it was worth every penny!
@TheDetourDuo the books are amazing if you like science and vampires and history which, yeah, I see how it's a weird combo but the characters are amazing and the twists in story lines are great! Plus, the newest one came out last August. I haven't had the chance to read it yet but I've got in on my Kindle. Maybe this week I'll start reading it
Ahaahaha, 3 mins in I was like "Heeyyy this is giving Discovery of Witches vibes! I wonder if it was filmed there!" and then few mins after you mention the show! ALSO The Perch is allegedly very haunted, that is cool y'all got to eat there!!!
It looks like it might be haunted. Lol, that's so funny. We just happened to start watching the show and the first episode we were like hey that's where we'll be in a month 🤣
Alfred is my partners family's middle name. He's the third and had a son #4 Thomas Alfred 😁 Tom 4 is definitely having kids at some point. Hopefully #5 will be in the mix❤
I'm on agreement about the TV A Discovery of Witches... but the books/audiobooks are fantastic and well worth a read/listen if that's a genre you enjoy. 😊
Oh. Didn't think about the books. I bet they are excellent. The show seemed to have a lot of potential, it just progressively fell short every episode.
@@TheDetourDuo I think they are well worth a read/listen. There are five books in the All Souls series so might be fun to dive into if you're travelling :-) Am enjoying the wee ambles around the different towns/cities you guys are doing at the mo' thanks team! My flabbers are ghasted at how much that tyre cost you... AND that the car insurance didn't cover it!
@@rachellesutton6201 Sounds like a good idea to me. A good plane read to start. Thank you. Yes, we were gumming about that. Feel like we got scammed by the rental company because they said we had to replace it with a brand new tire of the same size, and that we couldn't try and patch it or buy a used tire.
@@TheDetourDuo I feel like you got scammed too. It needed a repair and patch up but from what I understand they insisted on an entire new tyre? Either way, puncture repair and emergency roadside assist should absolutely be covered by a full insurance rental policy, in my opinion.
What a cool place to visit! Those college cows look interesting too - especially the one with the elegant rounded horns. The other one looked quite normal to me as a Dutch person - except for its weird fascination with the fence 😂. Also, what was the long dark outro with some car sounds at the end about?
They sure are sneaky! Said we could only replace it with a brand new tire too. smh. My middle name is Antonio. I've gone by Tony all my life. Not a big fan of my first name 😂
A bit late now, but... If this tire thing happens again, take it to, or call, a local garage. They'll sort it for you for under £100. Don't tell the hire company. It's best to sting them before they sting you. 🤣😂🤣
Smart not telling the company. I wish we hadn't told them. Bet they wouldn't even have noticed if the tire was new or not 😂. We did try to find local shops, but everything within a short distance was closed. We would have had to leave the car in the lot (not sure if that's allowed or if it would get ticketed/towed) then buy a room for the night somewhere before finding a garage. Still likely would have been cheaper, but we just wanted to get home at that point
@@TheDetourDuo I suppose that when you're in a country that isn't your own, you just want to get things sorted the best way and the quickest way you know how.

all a ploy to get you paying more would be my guess. They should have a spare tire in the vehicle, instead they make you buy one and it has to be brand new.

This is my fave series so far because it’s so nice to see my “home turf” from your view! I had forgotten how expensive everything is 😅

I'd be real mad at that rental company. Tyres are expensive, but seriously, they should have covered it when you buy their highest insurance.
