I will never understand the point of companies debuting groups just to not put in the work to get the group recognized. Like why?
market shares. they are just products. they release a product if it doesnt sell or go viral as well as they expected, then off the shelf you go. but there is also a contact that still ties the group and the company tgt. so while the company already gave up on a certain groups, they still need to milk the remaining value out of them so they dont come out with a negative margin. hence they put out occasional mediocre releases just to maintain some relevance until the contract is over. and i feel that's exactly whats happening with LIGHTSUM and possibly fromis 9.

@@knocturna9731That’s probably true. Cube was worried (G)I-DLE would tank so they debuted a new girl group. They’re so talented but as soon as (G)I-DLE had another hit with Tomboy, Cube immediately put all their focus on them again & gave up on Lightsum.

LIGHTSUM is undergoing CLC treatment. LIGHTSUM from debut up to this date already showcased us different concepts at each comeback
VANILLA - BRIGHTPOP and CUTE
VICACE - FUTURE BASS POP and ELEGANT (Comparable to IZONE)
ALIVE - TEEN CRUSH CONCEPT (Comparable to WINX CLUB)
HONEY OR SPICE - HOUSE EDM CONCEPT (THEY FOUND THEIR SIGNATURE HERE)
POSE! - DREAMLIKE and ALTERNATIVE POP (Comparable to NEWJEANS)
Their signature sound has cutesy and ad lib screams at every song from prechorus to chorus
But their songs are easy to listen and if you disregard the music video it sounds like there are at least 4 idols distinguishable by singing.
Yet none of the comebacks screams noise marketing nor hype at the group. I love their B sides. I think their song POPCORN is their signature sound but every title tracks are different in concepts and drastic theme change. Basically their older sister group, CLC already done these concept changes on 3rd GEN but most of them have GIRL CRUSH concepts.
They are under CUBE entertainment where GIDLE exist. So far, G-IDLE, CLC, and LIGHTSUM have different title tracks at each comeback at this label. We can see pattern on how girl groups are managed under this label.
KNETS pointed out a detail that if you study the instrumentals only, you will never guess the song because it sounds like a song released by many groups and its easy to replicate compared to other of their songs who have good production.
LIGHTSUM have their signature song HONEY OR SPICE, the bright music yet dark mesmerizing theme MV and their song match the members.
Their momentum will get slow next year as much girl groups are debuting and might be overshadowed.
The most shocking thing about cube is that they can actually spot talent! Most if not all artists under cube are incredibly talented. But all they go through are years and years of mistreatment and mismanagement. These artist's dont deserve that.

So true. Cube scouts amazing talent and they’re also good at scooping up trainees that the big 3 to let go. I assume Cube has some appealing aspects that help them recruit. For example, compared to other large companies, they seem less likely to require plastic surgery, they allow for creative freedom, and they seem to want idols with lots of personality. Of course, that doesn’t outweigh the bad-they have strict dieting, bad dorm conditions, all the awful stuff you’d expect. And once their groups debut, they prioritize quick money over long-lasting, happy fanbases. And if the group isn’t writing, producing, and pitching everything themselves, there’s virtually nothing they can do to get regular comebacks. Let’s just say, Nowadays better start writing their own music ASAP.
They should be a scouting agency and drop the music production altogether at this point 🙄

I don’t stan Lightsum, but I really liked some of their songs, especially I and Vivace. I wish they were promoted better.
I just feel bad for them as training for over 6 years especially for JUHYEON AND CHOWON. Imagine debuting on the same tides with IVE and AESPA and NEWJEANS and NMIXX era and they are releasing music content once a year and promotions are really bad. It feels like no one is demanding them to release music as I don't see K NETIZENS with genuine interest to the group

It’s insane to me that Cube PUBLICLY dragged Soyeon through the mud the way they did 😭 that was the stupidest decision I’ve seen a company make in a while and companies are always making stupid decisions. What did they think they would accomplish by literally dragging the creative mind and the producer of their biggest gg (cash cow) through the mud? It’s like there are no thoughts in their heads

CUBE is absolutely TRASH at promoting their artists. They will debut a group, then realize they got a popular big group under their company, forget about that newly debuted group and treat them like rubbish. Like whats the point?????? LIGHTSUM have so much potential, yet CUBE always finds ways to ruin that. Their comeback "Pose!", really needed a killer melody to make up for its shortcomings, but unfortunately, the hooks are just as flat and uninteresting as the instrumental. The chorus passes by without leaving a lasting impression, and even after multiple listens, nothing about the song really sticks. The girls deliver a solid performance, but there's nothing here that sets them apart from other groups. This specific K-pop sound feels like it's overdue to fade out, and honestly, the sooner, the better.

I love the song Pose! Lightsum deserve better though! Only one song after such a long break isn't great. The Kpop industry is fast moving and only releasing one song after a 6 month break isn't a good marketing strategy. Cube are terrible at managing groups. I feel bad for Lightsum their discography is great it's just a shame they have no support and have so few comebacks.
