What's insane about this toy and (the dalmatian figure in particular) is that a local department store back in the day literally had ONLY these left on the shelf for like a couple years. Nobody wanted them or the turtles figures anymore. Granted there were much less of Scratch, but I swear to God my brother and I remember seeing tons of these, and nobody bought them. We were like 8 at the time so we didnt know, and didnt want them either!

@@gertywhatagash_ I don't doubt it. If I can find one in near mint condition in a $5 bag of random figures at a thrift store in the late 2000's, anything is possible. Of course I already had one at that point, but I certainly wasn't going to pass up a grail level find at a thrift store.

As a modest, chill collector this is one of the rare "holy grail" toys I actually have a desire to nab at some point. I just love that Playmates line and Scratch is a good sculpt with a fun character design. I disagree with the take about the sculpt here. I love it's relative simplicity compared to some of the other figures in the line.

It's strange but as a french tmnt collector, I'm only obssesed by the 1988-1990 release. As a child, I was deeply frustrated not to have one foot soldier when others children had it. So frustrating when my mother offer me the foot scout vehicle without any bad character. scratch is not part of my nostalgic heritage and I find it so inconceivable to spend so much on such an average character

I had a similar Scratch story.... A vendor I work with had a bunch of rarish TMNT. I made him a fair offer a tad under ebay prices and he got pissed that I was not giving him scalper prices. IIRC I was the one who informed him of the great value he had in his closet to begin with. I believe I was going to give him 200 dollars or somesuch for Scratch 5-8 years ago.
My best score ever is paying 250 dollars for dozens of MOTU w/weapons and chest gear, plus the playsets, vehicles, Dinos, etc. This deal included like 20+ 1989/90 era TMNT guys with weapons as well.
Now Scareglow alone costs more than the whole collection. Why don't I start selling?????

Id be very cautious these days buying a grail piece with Mattel, Hasbro, Playmates doing a lot of reissues / reimagines, there is a high chance you could end up loosing a lot of money. The price of MOTU sky rocketted during COVID and now the prices are 25-50% less for most figures especially since Origins came on the scene. We will always have our regrets, Scare Glow loose complete used to sell for £50 back in 2013 and now its £150-250, the thing is in 2013 that was expensive for a toy ... now its considered cheap.
