      @@skyvipers It seems that you don't know anything about the game. If you had played any meaningful amount of time in it, you would know there were many connections originally, and the story is intrinsically connected to CT. The entire impetus of the spawning of the Home World universe in Cross is directly due to the actions Chrono and Co. took.
      When Queen Zeal sent the Prophets across time when they tried to stop her from using the Mammon Machine, Balthasar was flung into the future, 2300AD, where the world was destroyed.
      Chrono and Co. beat Lavos, thus saving the future. But there was some stuff with Scahala, and Balthasar concocted a plan reaching across millenia to engineer a way for her to be saved and not joined in with the Time Devourer. He made Chronopolis and researched the time travel stuff with FATE, and ended up technically engineering the events in Chrono Trigger to boot, given how massive his plan was.
      There is a lot to it, if you look.
      But you'll not have read any of this, or simply will ignore what I'm saying and make fun of me because I used a couple words with more than three syllables.
      Good day.

      @@BigCowProductions Alright lets talk about this reasonably:
      1) It's an assumption from your end that I "don't know anything about the game / haven't put time into it", me liking or disliking the game has nothing to do with a correlation of knowledge about it. Consider why I am here on the video in the first place, it's obvious I'm not some random bot who negative comments videos. I played both CT and CC entirely through. You are basically saying "you must not have played it because you don't appreciate it like I do", which is completely untrue in both regards. I love CT, and I hate CC.
      2) Something being related to something else doesn't make it good or bad in itself. For example, you can't claim that "Rise of Skywalker" is good and meaningful because the events of "Return of the Jedi" directly impacted the storyline. Who cares if they are directly related? That doesn't mean it is "objectively good / cool / etc." Something that is good must stand alone on it's own merit, it being related to something else doesn't add or detract from that. The events of CC are (at best) mildly related to CT, which is why there is (despite what you may know) a lot of resentment for it being a crappy sequel.
      3) Speaking of that, that is my whole point, in that CT is good by itself. It does not need to add anything to it (or ret-con) to make it better / more relatable. CT is a classic and maybe the greatest game of all time. When they added elements from CC into CT, that only makes it seem desperate to make CC more relatable. Remember when George Lucas in the BluRay edition added Darth Vader saying "No!" in RotJ before he killed the Emperor? Was that necessary? Was it impactful? Who asked for that? This is my reasoning behind my disdain for CC elements being *needlessly* placed in CT. A sequel should be good standing on its own merit, and should not have to add elements into its prequel to make it better / more understandable.
      4) I think you can find utmost universal praise for CT and a split fandom for CC. Now I'm not inferring that popularity has anything to do with something being good, but it is a tell-tale sign that when (CT) is beloved and hailed as the greatest JRPG / game of all time, (and CC is not), should give you some context clues about how much negativity there is for CC. Just because you like / love something doesn't make it objectionably well-liked. It's not like I'm calling the greatest game of all time garbage, I'm calling a game that has fans split on love / hate garbage. You may love it, but there is a gigantic fandom of CT that absolutely despises CC. Kinda like how SW fans all praise ESB but are split on TLJ lol. CC is 100% the TLJ of the Chrono Series.

    I have a theory of this ending. I think that the "future" magus is the magus that go inside the dimensional vortex in one of the ending after Marle asks him if he's searching for Schala. After the party is defeated by the dream devourer, Schala send him somewhere and he completely lost all his memories. So I think he has been sent into the world of Chrono cross(the one with Serge alive). Not knowing his name and his purpose, he changed his outfit and became Guile. As for the Magus in our party, he could have seen that or the party that battled the dream devourer told him what happened, and he knew that it was useless to face the dream devourer, so he searched for an other way. And ended up going into the Radical Dreamer. It could somehow explain how Magus is with Serge and Kid in RD, and why Guile looks like Magus. Of course, it's acceptable only if you think that Guile is actually Magus, and if the Magus that watched the "future" Magus being defeated by the dream devourer decided to find another way of saving Schala.
    Well I could be wrong, I'm just trying to figure something out of this since it's a little dizzy for me.: /

    I do watch HCBailly, but this is something I've thought myself, ever since I first got the game years ago. The big thing here is that Chrono Cross itself never once suggests that there's anything more to Guile than just Guile, and as his personality is so strikingly different, I can't shake the feeling that at the time, it wasn't Square's intention that Guile actually be Magus in disguise.

    for the ones who does not know, this entire ending is a reference to Chrono Cross (the psx sequel of the original Chrono Trigger), where, as its shown, Schala became the devourer of time, as for magus, he is a playable character on that game, along with almost 50 other characters to add to your party, only thing, if you dont read VERY CAREFULLY or get full story of all of them, you will never know who Magus is on that game, as for he is completely different from his original form since he forgot

    @ozTheEndzo Sure Lavos, but that's not Lavos. That's A Schala infused Dream Devourer. Schala is the most powerful magic user to ever exist in the CT world. It might have been quoted by Zeal that Janus could become even more powerful with his attack magic (black magic) but Schala was always the one who could effect time and space. If she didn't like you she could send you to the abyss in a portal. Lavos, or the Dream Devourer would have never had such power w/o Schala

    When Ayla hits star level, she'll randomly crit for 9999 with normal attacks. This is amazing, and for those who actually persevere to see this change, you'll also know that by then Chrono's Luminaire should only do ~5k or so, depending on the build. Thus, when it comes down to pure power, Ayla is the one to use (you may also want to consider giving her the counterattack accessory).

Originally Guile was supposed to definitively be Magus, but they didn't have time to included the storyline during development, so they just had Guile be a shadowy, possibly Magus, possibly not type of character. When this DS version came out, it appears they retconned the plot allowing Magus to be Guile again, because he doesn't "remember" who he is.

      Chrono Cross is about possibilities. Since Serge touched the frozen flame, that piece of lavos that is capable of making miracles and evolution happen, created two worlds as siamese:
      home world: serge is alive / apocalipsis in 1999 happened / crono and friends possibly died
      another world: serge is dead / apocalipsis in 1999 didn't happen / crono and friends possibly lived
      since Chrono Trigger left a cliffhanger with Schala dissapearing, Chrono Cross took it very well and made Lavos the Time devourer in the darkness beyond time when he trapped Schala, there he was consuming all the existence. Basically Chrono Cross tells the story of Serge, the spiritual succesor of Crono, destroying Lavos so that everything that happened in Chrono Trigger wouldn't have been for nothing. It all happened, Chrono Trigger mattered. Chrono Cross is the next generation's heroes so that time wouldn't get destroyed. Nothing was ruined.
      Once that was over, the siamese worlds got cut and went into different routes: and that's where Kid and Serge hurt since they won't see each other again and probably they aren't going to remember, they will just "know" when they meet each other again. And that's Kid's promise

      Finally, someone with common sense! I don't get why Chrono Cross has so much fans, its stupidly convolluted storyline tried so hard to drag Chrono Trigger with it in a desperate intent to gain some of its greatness, that it completely destroyed the awesome storyline of the original. I like to belive Chrono Cross is nothing but bad fanfiction. • @Woodaba
      @Woodaba 10 лет назад +37

      lyricalmage Everything achieved in Chrono Trigger was not pointless, which you would know if you had actually played Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger's timeline continues as Another World, it's just Home World timeline that has the Day of Lavos actually happening. And really, in an endless multiverse of endless possibilities, that was bound to happen eventually. That was the whole point of Chrono Cross's plot: Belthazar figured out that not only would Lavos still be alive in the Darkness at the End of Time, but that Schala was still merged with it. He worked the whole thing out so that Serge would defeat the Time Devourer, free Schala, and ensure that Crono's success stayed a success. Stop being such a damn baby because Cross wasn't the game YOU wanted it to be.

    • @lyricalmage
      @lyricalmage 10 лет назад +6

      TheWoodaba It is made pointless in the moment they don't even care to explain what happened to the previous protagonists (they only tell you that lucca found that baby clone of schala and raised her, then ends dying out of nowhere with the causes lacking of a clear explanation in the actual game, because there are only speculations of what happened from what I read) , heck even the fanbase of the game there is no clue of what happened to Crono or Marle. And how come Crono is the sucessor of Marle's father if in no more than 2 years after his adventure evrithing they fought for and their kingdom has gone to trash. Such facts serve as proof for a game that did not care to properly bound itself to its original.

    • @Woodaba
      @Woodaba 10 лет назад +12

      First of all, Lucca didn't die. She died in Radical Dreamers, but she didn't die in Chrono Cross, because Lynx needed her to activate the Prometheus Circuit. You get a letter from her near the end of the game, she is obviously alive. As for the rest of your comment...like I said, stop being such a whiny little bitch because Chrono Cross wasn't the game YOU wanted it to be. The developers didn't see a point in just making a Chrono Trigger 2, and they did something different. And yet whiny little fanboys like you just started bitching "WHAT HAPPENED TO CRONO AND MARLE", like that's all you care about. There is such thing as ambiguity. Plus, your final point doesn't even make sense. Crono is the successor to the kingdom of Guardia because he married Marle, that is how succession worked. You need to quit your endless whining and accept Chrono Cross for what it is, not what you want it to be.

    • @lyricalmage
      @lyricalmage 10 лет назад +8

      TheWoodaba Oh thank you! You just proved the point, so, Lucca gets manipulated to help some ridiculous cat villain use the remants of Robo for evil purposes, another respectable character destroyed, which is why I don't like Chrono Cross in the first place; really, thank you for reinforcing my point. And my other point wasn't how did Crono become a king because I already know that (didn't you say yourself I was a Crono x Marle fanboy? And I don't know if I am such a fan of them but, when you think of it, they make much better protagonists than a rejected beach boy and a clone of schala), the point was why to make him king of Guardia if the kingdom is going to ruin after 5 years from the day of venturing for saving the world, making all his efforts short-thermed and also making him the weakest king in Guardia history? I mean, if they had any respect for him they could have at least given him 50 years of wise ruling. And I don't need to accept something I do not feel comfortable with, just like anyone is free to agree of disagree with a point of view, grow up kid. Try to give solid arguments to defend your point instead of just tossing insults at people that disagree with you. like I said before this is a game that I would respect if it wasn't because of its awfully convoluted plot that doomed some of my most respected characters from Chrono Trigger. This guy here quite reinforces my point: www.giantbomb.com/profile/twolines/blog/chrono-cross-provocative-or-totally-bonkers-you-de/101428/ eventough he loves Chrono cross for being an awesome game he widely enjoyed he can't help it to observe that is horribly convoluted, maybe not the most objective of analysis, but atleast he not all going like "What I say is universal truth and you need to accept it or else you're a whining bitch!". P.D I do have to thank you for making me laugh so much! you call me whiny fanboy yet you can't even defend Crono Cross without insulting me and refuse to see even the slightest flaw

    @Bryantzerox A sequel by definition portrays events set in the same fictional universe as its previous work, usually chronologically following the events of that work. So by actual definition it is a sequel regardless if the writers want it to be or not. However what he was probably referring to is the fact that the Chrono Cross does not follow the exact story line of Chrono and is a separate story with new characters making it in his mind, its own work. In its wiki article, CC is a sequel.

    Do a little research on Guile-he was going to be Magus in disguise, but because of plot difficulties, they couldn't do it. So they had to retcon in a new ending to Chrono Trigger to get the games to fit.

    @DistantLover666 Two confirmed, as Robo/FATE is the other. The assumption that Crono and Marle are dead comes simply from the fact that Dalton invaded Guardia as revenge, of which, Marle was a princess and future queen and Crono would have become king/consort. Now considering that the invasion was some time ago can only mean that Crono and Marle are dead or as good as dead (possibly hiding out for years, possibly longterm captives). Point is, they're clearly not around anymore.

    I don't know if you've played Chrono Cross. It's the sequel and it does help explain in more detail why Schala is fused with the Dream Devourer. I won't mention much more since I hate spoilers. I think the only reason this ending ends like this is since it's supposed to be such a strong tie-in with the events in the sequel.
    It is kinda lame though since Chrono Cross did come out about 7-8 years prior to the DS port though.

    For anyone wondering (I read it from another post, so it could be wrong... But I've played through CT and CC multiple times so it sounds right):
    Originally they tried to make Guile (in CC) Magus, but couldn't come up with a story for it so they abandoned it. Since they decided to make a port for DS, they made this alternate ending to explain how Guile really is Magus and how he doesn't remember.

    Not to mention it's basically saying Schala is consumed from simply having the desire due to her sadness. No reversal, how she even gets to joined with the Dream Destroyer in the first place isn't explained either.

  • @Koenig39

    No, it was Schala. She was able to manipulate time and space (therefore creating the "Gates") because she was bound to Lavos. It's all explained in Chrono Cross.

    @Wizlem1 You beat the game like normal, once you beat it, 3 new portals open up in 3 of the time periods. Anyway, at the end of each of them you have to fight a clone of Chrono, Marle or Lucca. Also you have to fight Dalton again in one of them and they imply that he's the one that leads Porre to take over Guardia before CC. So then the portal to fight this boss opens and as you can see, even though they clearly denied that Guile was Magus before, now they imply he is with no memory.

    Triggered Chrono Trigger fans in the comments that can't accept that Trigger and Cross are an amazing duology that warrant their connection. Chrono Cross is not a perfect game, but it doesn't ruin Trigger, and if nothing else makes the history and world of both games feel more complete, knowing that Crono's adventure had a definitive beginning, middle, and end. *_Really_* makes me wish we got Chrono Break, to know what "breaking reality" or traversing space would have been like in this world.

    @KisiroKitsune If you mean the Time Devourer, he isn't mentioned until near the end of the game(Chrono Cross). And that's the reason this scene was added, cause you NEED this scene in Chrono Trigger for it to make sense, that's why it was added to the post Chrono Cross version(Nintendo DS) and none of the others. You can call it a sequel :P but as I said all connection to Chrono Trigger were shoved in just so they could cash in the "Chrono" name. Look up Radical Dreamers and see for yourself.

  • @ZaSandaaGod
    @ZaSandaaGod 14 лет назад

    Concerning the Magus being Guile point, it's been officially said that there is no connection. However the Guile in Radical Dreamers (Who is not the same Guile in Chrono Cross) is in fact Magus. Radical Dreamers linked Chrono Trigger to Chrono Cross - and answered quite a few questions. However there was still a lot which was not answered and remains speculation until this day.

    The fusion between Schala and Lavos, as told in Chrono Cross, leads to the Time(Dream) Devourer, which destroys its dimension. It holds timelines for any possible outcome for an event, such as death, life, succeed, or fail. Its good to see the DS used this concept. It just may be the best remake of a game for another system I've seen.

    @Wizlem1 No, the Lavos does exist in the DS version. This is in the future after you beat him. He merges with Schala from within the darkness beyond time. So it is probably in some sort of after game super-boss, I don't know, I don't have the DS version.

    If you think about it, everything that happened in CC is a direct result of what happened in CT. If CT never happened, then the events in CC would have never taken place. The Future would have been the destroyed by Lavos like it had been in CT's original future. So when they saved the future, they in fact changed everything we knew and came to love in CT, even their pasts. Although an entirely new cast, CC is in every way, a sequal, as it is what happens after or because of CT.

    just to clear things up
    Magus is NOT guile BUT janus is guile.
    this is where it gets complicated, when the time crash happened and janus got sucked into the time portal. That was when an alternate reality was created, this reality called "radical dreamers" a doppleganger of janus was also created, no memories or anything. The people called him guile. This comes from the script writer's explanation. Go to game faqs search radical dreamers on Snes then open the storyline faq, its more detailed.

    Also, Chrono Cross IS a sequel. It's not a direct sequel, but it does take place in the same world as Chrono Cross, just some time in the future. The world was also effected by the events that happened in Chrono Cross, which you find out when you see Marle, Luka, and Crono in Chrono Cross. So you obviously need to play Chrono Cross again and do all the side quests to find out. It even has Slash, Ozzy, and that other boss in it.
