This is my version of American McGee's Alice. A few days ago I replayed this underestimated game and every time I am fascinated by the reinterpretation of the original fairy tale. So I wanted to dedicate this fan art as a tribute to the visionary American McGee.
I want to thank all of you, who continue to give me feedback and appreciation on my work! Really, you are breathtaking!
Many are asking me if American McGee has seen the video and I will try to respond with this message in the least critical way possible.
I am a 3d artist, I work for video games, and in my spare time my job becomes my number 1 passion (along with video games).
Some time ago I decided to do this fan art by imagining a possible remake / new chapter of Alice. All as a tribute to American McGee.
I've paid tribute to someone I respect before (Tim Schafer with Psychonauts). His feedback was a simple thank you Tweet with an "awesome" that made me ultra happy. That simple comment gave me the strength to continue in the industry and become a full-fledged 3D Character Artist.
With American McGee, however, a rather bad thing happened.
From the very first day of this project I was waiting for his feedback. Every time he went live I tried to share the video waiting for a simple judgment.
Weeks went by and still NOTHING. During the live shows he ignored my link.
After more or less a month I receive a notification from him where, in a not exactly polite way, he replies with something like: "Yes, I have already seen your link and I have already told you that it is good. But now stop it otherwise I owe you block on all social networks ".
I went to see all the live shows, all his tweets and posts on facebook and his feedback I never saw a trace.
I don't know if my project is getting in the way of his remake, but what I wanted to do with this video was just a tribute to him. Person I respected. Today a little less.
As you can see from my profile I continue to live by creating other personal projects even if honestly this story has left me a little bitter in my mouth.
Your solo project has more creativity and talent than McGee's busted Patreon project(s) will ever have. Since Madness Returns, we've only ever seen McGee show off empty promises, underwhelming projects, and his ego.
McGee may be too busy with his own Yandere Simulator Scam, but I wholly appreciate the work you've put into paying respect to this classic game and I especially appreciate the red trimming detail.

How many years has it been since he started doing pre-production? How much money have people paid in? Is it possible that we are still stuck with the artworks? I don't like this way of working ... But in the end it's his choice and apparently people like it.
@@paolopallucchi8054 I wouldn't call it a workflow as it seems as though the Patreon is allowancing for commissions of the concept art... followed by a discussion/stream of that concept art. It's very Jilly Juice lmao.
Also, that Patreon was originally intended to finance his 'life at sea' - not for the development of a new Alice game. Food for thought on that one...
It's been 3 years of investment for a handful of concept art and a 3D model... which is embarrassing considering his resume'.
Nevertheless, AMA remains a fond experience - regardless of his namesake in the title as the finished product wasn't victimized by a lofty (pre)production cycle (AMR's concept art and initial trailers are quite revealing).

While the animation's somewhat twitchy, there's still a lot to love about the detail, the expressions, the atmosphere. Just a little touching up with the aesthetics and this will be amazing! The Cat has never quite been known for his subtlety, but something about his smile being less pronounced makes him seem cooler here. If they do remake the game itself, I hope they redo the voices, not that Alice and Cat's voices are bad, but potentially hearing the voices evolve would be very much appreciated.
If it's Alice that's twitching than that kinda makes sense since she was in asylum by the events of this game
Poor Willie, just search for American McGee's channel and his video about this case, it's kinda frustrating, but what can we do we're talking about EA and EA love to kill these kinds of franchise.

Unfortunately, I think to get his feedback you have to be in the patreon. He replied annoyed - I think - because he didn't want my video to affect the people of the patreon.
He says he has already answered me but I have NEVER received any feedback from him.
If you go on his patreon you can see Alice's official model. The author is mentioned only with the name "ROMAN". Why? I wouldn't want the people who pay the patreon is the same to be working on the project. If so, paying to work is one of the worst things that can exist in this sector. I hope I'm wrong.
I am very disappointed. I wanted to make just a video tribute, I didn't think I could bother.

I don't know what to say, no matter how many words I string togeather I cannot fully express my awe and amazement. One thing why I loved the games was the "atmospheric horor", no cheap jump scares, no ridiculously tough oponents. Just the atmosphere. This reeks with destiled atmospheric horor. Also, I get some "shadow Alice" vibes.

I REALLY like this! Is better then a lot of other arts created for Alice Asylum, a Remake for American McGee's Alice would be better than a new game for now, and i really liked!
(Just some feedbacks, not trying to be rude or something...)
° Chesire Cat doesn't seems like a cat and a bone texture in him would be better, like: make him not so fat (he seems a little fat to me).
° Alice hair could be in the back of the dress, not in the front (in my opinion), maybe a Ponytail?
And just that, but is really awesome, it's a little sad that McGee answer you that way.
And i'am pretty sure, that... If this was a bigger project, probably EA would accept this idea.

Okay, wow. This is ridiculously good! Your models of Alice and the Chesire Cat look so realistic, I'm really impressed. That coupled with actual dialogue and music from the game and you get one hell of a fan tribute.
Honestly, this has more production value than Alice Otherlands. I hope American McGee has seen this too because it is just fantastic.

I was disappointed that American Mcgee's reaction was so negative, but you did a wonderful recreation of the work, the air of Alice's madness on her face is a detail that helps a lot, The Cheshire cat as a sphynix cat was a genius insight and the details in alice's dress fit so well with the Wonderland landscape concept that is portrayed in the game. It was wonderful, I want your work to be recognized more every day!

you are welcome! I've been a fan of Alice's saga for years, at one time I stopped following the news, but it was me seeing this animation for the hype to come back to life! It could give a nice reboot of the game and even better than the original
Mcgee had a negative reaction? Strange. Seems his fans can do a better work than the developer.
This is stunning! The animations a bit janky at times (like Alice's hand and Vorpal Blade clipping through her dress) but that's not really what I'm focused on - moreso the modelling you've done! The amount of detail you managed to show is remarkable, her individual hairs, the lace on her apron and petticoat, and the fabric of her stockings - it's all so visually appealing. The only thing that's a bit disappointing is the lack of expression given to the Chesire Cat, but due to his more realistic modelling I can understand. Overall, this is a gorgeous piece of art and I can tell the love you put into it. Although you used dialogue from the second game, her outfit, and the overall vibe of the animation reminds me of the first game, which is what I think you intended anyway. It really does feel like a revamped AM:A with a more personal and detailed take. I'd love to see more animations or even a short film with these graphics. You're very talented! I hope American can see this, I'm sure he'd love it, too! (:

canonical models, in my humble opinion, these models, from Paolo Pallucchi, are in no way inferior to them. I already
fell in love with these furry eyebrows and a philtrum under her nose! New Cheshire is awesome! But the bow-knot

It remains to send Paolo Pallucchi tons of letters asking to organize a remake/remaster of American McGee's Alice with these models, or at least short 3D movies. About a tips, model walk is not very fit with Alice, original walk was better
@@feewre ahahah it would be really cool! Yes, I'm not an animator so I try to do what can I do :D But maybe the problem is the "style of the walk" and not the animation. Maybe the mood of the walk is too much different from the original :)

This really is a gem, a diamond in the rough! The texture detail, animation fluidity, model designs, lighting... it’s all so fantastic! Usually fan made videos are a bit off in some way, or have a sort of jankyness to them, but this completely solid!

I love everything except the Tim Burton styled face on Alice and the largeness of chesh. However I do love that chesh looks like a naked cat breed which works for his original concept. The dress was bomb with the amount of detail. Chesh's face was perfect. Youve made me so excited for the game american is working so hard on right now to finish up the storyline for such an amazing game series.

One last comment, honestly, this is how I envision the series they are developing. I truly hope they don't do live action. Something like this or even 2D animation would give them the freedom to do things live action can't.

Awwww thank you for your support! You are really kind! But I dont think is a problem of "jelous", I think there is some problem with the actual status of alice asylum.
If only Madness Returns shipped with Unreal 3's UDK. It's truly a shame we might not ever be able to see this functioning in-game. I can only hope that this next upcoming release will bring us some official modding tools, in the spirit of old style Quake and Unreal releases.
You are very talented, but there is something I wanted to say about the idea of this video you made, your animations, models and setting look amazing, but I think it would be more a reboot or reimagining rather than a remake, because usually a remake is a game which follows the same base of a previous game as close as possible, for example, here we can see stuff like Alice's dress, which is very different from the iconic blue dress we saw in American Mcgee's Alice, and no, I am not saying your version of Alice's dress is bad, it's the opposite, she looks beautiful in that dress and the Cheshire's cat looks amazing, but considering the big differences like Alice's dress, etc, I think it would be more a reboot or reimagining rather than a remake, but other than that your version of American McGee's Alice looks amazing, good job.

Love the work you did on both Alice and the Cheshire cat. I love Alice's walk cycle but the cat's walk was a bit glitch to me. It wasn't smooth, but you did you're best. I love all of it. Wish there was a new game and a new story for Alice. Maybe in the future perhaps.

I love it... Just I'm not feeling the weight of the 3D characters is the only gripe I have with this. That and the closeups can be a bit choppy. Most people wouldn't notice but you can mostly tell when on a close up of chess while he speaks. Otherwise beautiful and I just wish I could see Alice's face a bit more at times instead of constantly overcast by her hair.
Hi Msmeliss! You have a good eye! Unfortunately, when I made this video, I didn't know how to do some things that I know now and I rendered everything in a software that isn't meant for animations. In fact, the characters aren't actually moving; I created a looping corridor that moves instead. So yes, it feels strange because it's the corridor that's moving and not them hahaha. I love with the smoothness of her walking movement, and Cheshire cat's appearance more than 30 seconds made me wish that in the game, Cheshire can accompanying you while walking when 2nd player being enabled in console. And maybe in battle mode, Cheshire can help you with the battle.
Also I've read other's comments and I had to say... turn out it's not only me who kinda feel disappointed with McGee. Maybe since the Otherlands project many years ago? Like... it's already bleak since beginning, as there's no clear concept, only the arts or sketches... and almost turn the wonderland into casino world? I'm confused as hell back then. Like... if he really have no budget at first, maybe don't make too much promises and showed off the art concepts. I prefer Kan Gao who made To The Moon game series: he rarely updates, but when he updates, it's almost completed!
The alice asylum was sort of disappointing. Like the 3D model and art concepts made for patreon was still looked too old. Yet the story said it was time when Alice is still in young age, 13 yo maybe... I tried to keep supporting him by following his updates despite not becoming his patron, but after seeing how he only reacts with cosplays and not fanarts or even fanmusic... I guess I just unfollow him and rather be surprised that the game already released 2 years ago lol.
Oops sorry for long comments and rants. But I feel kinda better that I wasn't alone to feel disappointed. At the same time, I still love AMA and AMR game. Maybe I'll just call them with these abbrevations than the full name :3

McGee react only to cosplay because his main source of income is the merchandise for cosplayer. McGee and his wife have realized the site "mysterious", look the price, look how many update deserve this site and look the update from the patreon. It's absurd. It's a scam for fan. This is diabolic.

I've heard him talk about events he wants to happen in his game... He was quite rude to you, but I do think he still has passion for Alice.

This is amazing, sorry you had an unpleasant experience with American. If it's any comfort you're not the only one. I used to be a big fan of his (first Alice was my fav game for a long long time) but after I saw how he treated certain people on his streams, I stopped following his work. Anyway...

Hello. Can you detail those experiences? I don't watch his streams much, but when I did I saw he was slightly rude to one person who inquired of the live chat a solution to fix some technical difficulty they were facing with the stream. It wasn't THAT rude but impolite and sarcastic, considering they may not have even been addressing McGee specifically but perhaps people in the chat. I let it go, but I'm curious of any other encounters?
@@devillass6025 These were peppered throughout a lot of this streams and a while back, so I dont remember all but... I do remember him calling people "racial purists" (basically racist/nazi) for asking why would an Asian actress play Alice if she's canonically white.
Another unpleasant one was his reaction to a patreon (!) comment - so a person supporting him financially - the dude merely said he didnt care for one of the concept arts, and American got all outraged, saying "Who the hell are you to say you dont care for etc etc" I understand being attached to his artists, but to flip out like that over a mild criticism...
And there was my own argument in the comments, where I said Jordan Peterson's comments should be taken with a grain of salt given some of his previous statements (American was praising him in the video) and he got very defensive and aggressive over - again - a mild criticism.
No joke, when I first saw this I thought it was a legit movie advertisement and then when I read the title I was like awwww man! Can we please get a studio to pick this up and have you be the lead animator/ artist!? Also if I may offer some critique. at the 0:13 mark I noticed the cat was in a leaning back position, only the legs seemed too far spread apart. If you see a cat stretching or leaning back, their legs are more inward. moving the joint a bit more to the center and arching the cats back may help. Then at the 0:47 mark, Alice's dress fold seems a bit stiff. The dress does move but the fold on her white apron piece is maintained almost as if it's just pasted on there. Not only this but her arms seem a little on the stiff side while she walks. The leg movements are perfect though! So smooth and natural! Same for Cheshire. Literally her walk, movements, and swaying is smooth like butter! Love it! Also at the 1:22 time stamp, her arm to the left seems to be twitching a bit. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not to sell the creepy factor but adding it her other arm or a slight twitch in her head movement can make it look like it was a part of her demonic side. Otherwise it looks unintentional, at least from my perspective. Also I loved this story change as well. It reminds me of a college assignment I had for digital painting where we had to take classic fairytales and reimagine them in a twisted tale version. It wasn't necessarily horror, but more so putting it into a new setting and style. For example, someone did Alice in Wonderland as a traditional Japanese style with the Queen of Hearts as a Geisha. There were also floating islands in the background, it was really cool. Someone else did Snow White but in a mad scientist lab and the dwarfs were looking for a cure to wake her up. Sorry this is so long and hope my feedback helps/ can't wait to see more!

And also I like your version of her character desgin and costuming more than the original. It has much more style to it but still keeps the essence of Alice! I also like your version of Cheshire as well, but I like the other one from the game as well.

I really love this fan art it looks so GREAT, im not a huge fan of the cat design, i prefer the one from madness returns. But its still awesome and i hope American McGee will make a remake. And you would definitely kill the job.

Pretty cool animation, I love McGee's Alice. Your rendition of the cheshire cat is interesting, looks like a Sphynx cat.
The only thing that looks off is their gait, Alice is walking like a supermodel on a catwalk (no pun intended).

Alice Madness Returns has been my favorite game since I was little, I've been in love with it ever since it came out (was 10 at the time, now I'm going on 20). I'm sorry about McGee, I never imagined he'd simply ignore such great work and not only that, but a very cool tribute to one of the most beautiful games ever created!
