It was just a joke mate, anyone starting out would sound terrible since you have to get a feel for the instrument.
How it responds to your touches if you know what i mean lul
It's pretty hard to sound terrible on a piano. It's not like a guitar or violin where you sound awful if you put your finger at the wrong spot, or you press too hard or whatever.. On a piano when you press a key you always get a clear sound.

Wow, Kristen you are very talented and fun to hear your playing these older tunes that most people don't hear today. Your brother is a hoot. But as a parent myself, I have to say I loved your Mom saying you were her favorite and then the reactions from both of you, classic! Obviously a family that loves to tease each other, and very loving and supportive of each other. Never lose any of that!
I love it when her hands touch the keys and magic happens, so in awe at her abilities
My three older sisters tried to teach me to play the piano. Each had a different idea of what is “right”. It was maddening. Finally mom had a real teacher square me away. Eventually I became an accomplished pianist so I could work in a bar to pay for college. Mom was mortified that I spent evenings in a bar.
A bar can be good or bad, depending on whether it's like an English Pub with fellowship around tables, or an American Saloon where addicts go to get drunk and the owner is a pusher. And then there is the mixed offspring where people desperate for romance go to find ill advised alcohol fueled matches.
The most entertaining, clever and funny offering I've seen in a long time. Just brilliantly filmed and put together thank you!

OMG !!! my piano playing has been dead till I found you !!! I am in love with ragtime. you have inspired me to dust off my piano. its been 6 months since ive played. I am a 44 year old early intermediate. any suggestions on how to learn ragtime??? I live in a small Norcal rice farming town, no teachers out here :(

Just play piano as much as possible as often as possible. There are great resources online only a google away to teach you piano for free. Find a video series or website you like and watch it.

This video is so hilarious and down right truthful when it shows the gaping cavern between "easy looking" inspired and when you try to duplicate that inspiration. I play piano and struggle to read music. I enjoy playing by ear more. But it's fun to watch people learning and growing on the keys.

I wish you would re do this video to teach the likes of me,middle aged and new to the piano and only been playing my first love(boogie woogie) for 6 months but ragtime is a close second with 12st rag being my fav.only just subscribed but cant stop watching this one keep them coming.
Some of best piano memories I have are playing four hands with my brother... he plays violin but can play whatever he picks up rather well. Your brother seems to have music in him. Subscribed.

Many years ago I was hanging around Coke's Corner at Disneyland and when the piano player went for a break, he said it was ok for me to play something. I played the introduction to Maple Leaf Rag. That was all I had memorized. 12th Rag by Euday Bowman is a great one as well to play. I like your little improvisations on the orginal sheet music.
“But Kristen’s my favorite” I’m sure that’s true. I grew up in a house like that. My younger sister was my Mom’s favorite, and there was never any doubt about it. Ironically, when my Mom could no longer take care of herself, I was in charge of taking care of her.

Well done Kristen!! There may indeed be hope for your brother yet! :) I play the Piano, Keyboard, and Organ and am no where near as fluent as you are. You play wonderful renditions of great songs both old and new....keep up the talent and please, please, please add more songs!!
