I really enjoy watching you, Julia! You share so much knowledge and I learn so much, from all your fresh new ideas! Thank you! My favorite are these thrift up cycling videos!
I'm trying to do more up cycled projects for my flea market shop. I will turn the camera on more. I am enjoying these projects more and more. Thanks for watching, Julia
Hi, I will be filming more in the next couple of weeks. I am getting ready for my flea market shop and have many upcycles to complete. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
Hi Julia - These turned out awesome. Love all the details you added. Such fun jeans! Love them. The colors in that skirt are so pretty and I can see you making lots of cool things out of it. A matching headband would look great with them. Maybe you can wear them for a stroll in the beach 🏖🏝. Hugs🤗🤗🤗🏝
Groovy :-) what a great upcycle/repurpose! I have tried Sashiko a few years back using navy blue linen fabric and the traditional thick white thread and a special Sashiko needle that is very sharp. Our patchwork class made lined needle cases with a pocket. The hardest thing was figuring out how to pin the lining to make the pocket on the correct side when it was sewn and turned out! Required thinking in reverse too much for my brain. The Sashiko design was made on a grid marked with a tailors pencil and running stitches first horizontally then vertical and finally diagonally both ways. Whilst we used the correct thread, needle and fabric that our teacher got for us, another member of the class made a few more needle cases using ordinary coloured threads and denim so embroidery floss would work well too. Recommend books on Sashiko by Susan Briscoe if anyone is interested in learning more. Thanks for sharing yet another great idea Julia :-)
Love this idea! I have a pair of distressed jeans that I have been wanting to do this to using lace to back the holes giving it a shabby chic look. This would be great on overalls too!
Lace would be awesome! I plan on doing more of these for my summer flea market shop. The sky is the limit and it's such a great way to spruce up discarded clothing. So glad you enjoyed it! Julia
These are my dream jeans!!!! I have a brothers sewing machine that I bought years ago but never opened because I don’t know how to use it!!! 😢. Maybe I need to get that thing out and start playing!
Hi, Yes you do need to break it out! I love doing these simple up cycled projects. It doesn't take much to completely change the look. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Julia
Hi, Yes-I''ve done that!! Doilies are another one of those things that I look for when I'm thrifting! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a creative day! Julia
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your ideas!! I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I, too, have researched sashiko and ordered some needles and the thread they use from a website I found by searching SASHIKO...I didn’t get any further than that basically, but with your inspiration today, Im apt to get out the whole bunch and DO SOMETHING...not sure what yet, but your ideas just grew as you went along, I want to do the same! All I have to do is start I think and the rest should fall into place, Im confident to go for it now BEST, CHERYL🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Fabulous. Mixed media. I love it. 1/25/19. My nieces went to visit their sister in New Richmond Wisconsin near Minn/St Paul and its minus 13 right now. I thought we were cold in FL with 45. Oh well m
JJULIA I just ran across your post, I love it I too recycle old jeans and jean clothing. I love thrift stores and used to spend a lot of time in resale stores. But some years ago I had stroke and now I don't sew as much as I used to . I did restyle a jean skirt and because it was so short I added men's old ties to the bottom and when I wore it I received a lot of compliments. Wish I could send you a pic, but I am not good with this new technology . I am a senior lady and some of the new stuff confuses me sometimes. Is it anyway I can contact you and let you see a couple of things I have recycled? You are so smart and talented, I love what you do and the few things I have seen are just great!! My email is HelenWillis 679@ yahoo.com Be blessed and continue creating!!!
Hi Kristy, The green flower is a fabric yo-yo. I show how to make them in this videoruclips.net/video/h2LHHN-G4DQ/видео.html. Thank you so much for watching! Julia
Hi, I had a few ideas for Christmas projects but never got any filmed :( That's the hard part for me. The more videos I do, the easier it get but it is still so time consuming. I'll keep chugging along...
Hi, I have my feed dogs dropped and am using a free motion quilting foot. I am doing all the movement. It takes practice but is a lot of fun! Thanks for watching, Julia
Hi, On this pair I opened up the side seam of the jeans. However most of the time I just slide the leg over my open arm and use free motion stitching to get the embellishments in place. With FMS you can sew forward, sideways and backwards making it easy to sew in close areas. Thanks for watching, Julia
Julia, do you have any ideas for lengthening a knit top? I thought maybe lace or a strip of chiffon, but I’m not sure how durable either would be. Thanks!
Hi, I've used lace to add length. Maybe look in a thrift store for something that would work. I found a lace vest that I was able to use for this purpose. The lace was heavier (a cotton crocheted lace) that worked great. Possible even a patchwork strip of different prints would work. Just idea! Thanks for watching, Julia
Hi Phyllis, yes- everything fit. The vacuum ziplock bags were a lifesaver. There are alot of things that I didn’t bring that I wish I had. I keep hearing my Grandpa’s voice in my head “make do or do without!”
We are heading back to MN for Christmas for a few weeks and will be bringing my Etsy products so I don’t have to close my shop. I will be using my bags again😊
I'm so happy to see you using your left hand. I'm lefthanded so it looks good to see someone else do it.
We lefty's need to stick together!
I've never seen anyone so creative and talented.
Thank you so much for your kind words!

Hi Julia, can you tell me how you made the green, round flower?
Hi Kristy, The green flower is a fabric yo-yo. I show how to make them in this videoruclips.net/video/h2LHHN-G4DQ/видео.html. Thank you so much for watching! Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia, thank you!
You are soooooooo talented! Are you making any new Christmas projects this year?
Hi, I had a few ideas for Christmas projects but never got any filmed :( That's the hard part for me. The more videos I do, the easier it get but it is still so time consuming. I'll keep chugging along...
How were you able to sew freely with that attachment sorry new at sewing
Hi, I have my feed dogs dropped and am using a free motion quilting foot. I am doing all the movement. It takes practice but is a lot of fun! Thanks for watching, Julia
Haha, you said flip them,,,,,you do what I love doing
Adorable!!
How did you get the leg of jeans under your needle?

Thanks! I’ll try the lace first - have lots of tops to try this on, lol.
I'm really curious to see if you got everything you needed down there in your car . :-)
