Buckingham Palace in the City of Westminster has been the residence and administrative headquarters of the British Monarch since the reign of Queen Victoria. Its origins go back to 1703 when it was built as a townhouse for the Duke of Buckingham. In 1761 it was purchased by King George III as a present for his wife Queen Charlotte. During the 19th century it was significantly enlarged and chosen as official residence when Victoria ascended to the throne in 1837. We walk around the gardens on a summer's day.
