    I just bought an 880 floor model (my 3rd Bernina) and quickly learned that the threading is, shall we say, temperamental. Your video is perfect!!! Thank you so much.

    Thanks for the instructions on the upper threading. I have spent hours, literally hours, many tears etc. I just threaded my machine by pulling the thread out to the right before moving on to the needle threading process and it worked first time. It’s a shame that the instructor book also teaches that the way to thread is to take the front off, watch, pull thread to the right, always hold the thread with your right hand etc etc etc.
    Thanks for the tip.

      Thanks for the kind words about my video. It’s the small tips and tricks that go a long way for a better user experience. These are the things that can’t be learned from the manual.
      Since Bernina makes machines that do most everything but complete a project for you automatically. Possibly Bernina could now spend some more time on making their machines a bit more user friendly. Something as simple as threading the machine should NOT be so problematic. And how about designing a auto needle threader that actually works. Rather than making a better needle threader they went back to the needle threader that was used on the 180 and 200 type models that are over 10 years old. It’s my opinion that after someone spends over $10,000.00 on the latest and greatest model, it should pretty much thread itself .
      I could keep rambling on, but I will stop here and say thanks again for watching my video. Glad I could help.
      Bill

      You are not alone!!! I have spent hours crying in front of this machine reading the manual and STILL not getting rid of various rat’s nests. Ugh! If it wasn’t for RUclips videos like Joe’s, I would have pitched my machine out of the window years ago! Thanks, Joe!

    The needle threader was never the problem with the 830. I had one several years. The main problem was in the bobbin area. I could NEVER, no matter how I tried, to get it so it would sew. The thread just would not do right, no matter how long I pulled the thread to the left. Finally one day, I saw a video and it showed this small forked prong to the right of the bobbin area, the thread came out of that and the machine sewed. I was never able to get the thread through that..............ever. I tried it again one day, after walking by the machine for months on end. Still wouldn't go. I got soooooooo mad, I went to my computer, got online, looked at Pfaff and was able to buy a Pfaff Creative Icon, never ever thinking I could own one............and have been in love ever since. I wouldn't own another Bernina for any money!! I had that 830 for about 5 years and could never get it to work.

      When I use the needle threader the thread goes through the needle hole but when the arm goes back it pulls the thread out

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  3 года назад +1

      @@maryannemachin1586 I hear what you are saying. That’s not a uncommon problem and I really don’t have any answers for you. My question to Bernina is, is the best you could come up with? I think it could of been designed a bit better. There really should be no reason why the small hook can go through the needle eye yet it does not pick up the thread or does not pull out enough thread through the needle eye. When retailing a glorified sewing machine for over $12,000.00 customers expect it to work!

    Joe I thought the 830 had disc on both sides of the tap in top. The dealer said it did. I always put my line on the back side of the machine.

    I found that the 70/10 80/12 needle is more difficult to use automatic threader. The top stitch needle 90/14 was more successful in using needle threader

    My 830 straight stitching looks great, but I get an error warning every 30 seconds. The take up needle position looks good. I have retread and rethread. Have rebooted, have changed bobbin. What is going on?

    Hope you can offer a solution. My machine has just come back from its 5th trip to the dealer in 2 years which has been very costly. .I thread the machine using my automatic threader but the machine reverts to this threading screen, needle down and threading icon lit even though I have successfully treaded the needle. I repeat the threading but the threading screen returns straight away so unable to sew or embroider? Its in threading mode all the time

    Hi Jeff, I've had nothing but trouble with threading issues on my 830. I was so frustrated I started fanaticizing about tossing my Bernina into my swimming pool. I just watched another video on the subject of threading and she said the thread goes on the backside of that little tension tab on the top of the machine rather than in front of it. Now I don't know which one way is right and which is wrong. I'll try her way and see if I have better luck but I wanted to ask you if you could offer some clarity.

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  9 месяцев назад

      Hi, I really don't think it matters what side of that tab the thread goes on. I was told by someone that the tab or guide if you want to call it that, is to keep the thread separated when you use a double needle. Then one thread goes on one side and one goes on the other. That must really be a nightmare to thread a double needle because threading one needle is hard enough 😁. On any other tips or tricks, I really do not have any. Right after selling a few of the 830 machined back in 2018, I got out of the Bernina business. I had to spend so much time with each 830 that I sold to get it to work right, it simply was not worth all my time to sell any more. When they work as they should they really are great machines BUT that auto threader design is a bit of a disaster in my opinion. I am not sure if you are trying to manually thread the needle or you are using the auto threader. If you are using the auto threader you are better off manually threading the needle. A manual needle threader was included with all new 830 models. Hummmm...wonder why Bernina included a manual needle threaded? Guess they knew their auto threader was junk. Sorry I could not be much help.

    Incorrect information. The little tab on top can be threaded either side when using one thread, when using a double needle setup the two threads go on either side of the tab.

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  6 лет назад

      ChrisThomerson Thanks for that information Chris. It was a Bernina tech at the dealer that I deal with who told me I was threading the machine incorrectly by running the top thread on the backside of that tab. This was part of his explanation to me as to why the needle threader does not work like it should. Looking into the needle threader problem myself I have found that every time that the needle does not thread it’s because the thread in the needle threader assembly either too loose and it misses the hook that comes through the needle eye or even if the thread is tight in the threader assembly the thread is not guided up high enough to catch the needle eye hook when it is backing out of the needle eye. I have modified the slot that guides the threat up to the needle eye hook by making it slightly longer. That greatly improves the number of successful needle threadings over the unmodified thread guide.

    Please, could you tell me how to remove the dual feed from behind the machine foot.? It seems that it is stuck, I can't remove it. . The manual does not explain it. Thank you. Help. SOS

      I got out of reconditioning and selling Berninas around 2018. I serviced and sold about 8 or so of the long arm 830 machines. You could use the dual feed attachment on those models but that is something I ever got in with a 830 so I am afraid I don’t have any experience to share with you on that subject. Sorry about that.

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  4 года назад +1

      I did always put new needles on the machines ( most all of them ) that had needle threader problems. Spent lots of time on this problem because it was so common. I even used a close up high speed camera so I could see what was happening in slow motion. Found the problem to be that the thread was not raised up high enough for the small hook that went through the needle eye , to hook onto the thread and pull it through.
      Thanks for watching 😁

      I'm adding a comment. I find that that threader is quite pesky. Right now I'm trying to understand what causes the threader to not swing down at all, let alone miss its mark. I was able to fix a "missing the needle" issue by gently aligning the pin... but what on earth is causing the whole mechanism to not even swing down..? Frustrating. Otherwise quite delighted with the machine.

      100% true! I think the last Bernina I sold on eBay was in 2018. When the overpriced 830 came out, the quality of the machines went downhill. Starting with the 830 the machines were no longer Swiss made. The were made in Thailand and it showed in the form of a poorly designed machine that in my opinion was rushed into the marketplace before the bugs were worked out. I have no idea what the newer models cost and if they work like they should . Glad I got out of repairing and selling them when I did 😁. I always say, if its something I would not buy for myself, I certainly wont sell it to someone else.

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  2 месяца назад

      @@adelineeustace8533 Thanks for your opinion BUT it was not bent, neither were the several others that came out of the pack I used for testing. Bottom line is that it is a poor design. Many slow motion videos I took all on several different 830 models all showed the same problem on not having the thread not dropping down enough to catch the hook on the part that goes through the needle eye.
      Think what you want, those are the facts.
