    Just bought mine 2 months ago. Beyond happy. The versatility is incredible and it truly does take effects really well.
    It is critical to load the software at least once to upgrade firmware and also to ensure the mix for effects loop is to your taste I.e. left or right or both

    I am impressed, too! I Recently listened to many tube mini-heads, including the Marshall anniversary, Peavy, EVH, but honestly, this is much more convincing! What is most important, this comes pretty close to what they actually do in studio, blending different amps, channels etc. Ideally, this amp had some real tubes, but probably the outcome would be the same.

    Dear Yamaha, please release a rack version of the THR100 Dual with all knobs and switches in front to tweak it easily, as well as more amp models (including all THR models) as well as a pure preamp bypass to only have the amp and you will have a winner!! Even people using Kemper, Axe, Helix, Rack Eleven, etc... will find an interest by using for both clean pure amp, as well as using your preamp modelling. My 2¢

    • @glennleishman8464

      Absolutely agree. In the meantime I've made-up a bracket to hold my THR100HD in a 3RU short ABS Rack Case and it works well. Using a 3RU case gives the head enough airflow to stay cool.

    Excellent review! 🔥🔥🔥
    Yamaha makes some incredible products from their music line, keyboards, PA-live sound, guitars, basses, Home Theater, motorcycles, and more! You name it, they make it and it’s all quality stuff!
    I have a Yamaha Motif XF8 that’s just an incredible workstation keyboard. Absolutely glorious sounds and quality too, and also I have some of their top-tier Home Theater products. Again, quality is the point.
    I would have one of these if I was still gigging and didn’t own so many big amplifiers already (over 20 amps). They THR’s really are great amps (yes, I have played one). I now run modelers (Fractal AX III, AX8, and Helix floor) in my Home Studio, as they do everything I need at home, they’re fantastic for getting that CRANKED amp sound, even at low-volume, and the sound can be tweaked to get any tone that you’ve ever desired!
    This is a really stellar product and I’m sure if your gigging in small clubs this amp would play nicely on stage, or mic’d. Again, if I didn’t have so many amps already I’d have one of these, or two for stereo.
    Great review, really! Wish more reviewers were like this guy and do justice by not talking through the whole demo and never really getting around to the product. Well done my man!
    Best ✌🏼

  • @MrPonkine
    @MrPonkine 6 лет назад

    I have a question. what If you run 2 guitars AND using the effects loop?. Does it affect both channels or the first one?. Think about one guitar (lead) using modulation effects and the second one (rhythm) not using them. I'd love to know. Thanks!

    • @GuitarGuyAl
      @GuitarGuyAl 5 лет назад +2

      There are actually two effects loops but the effects loop is set to serial at
      factory but can be switched to parallel using the “THR HD_H Utility” application. The SEND/RETURN jacks on the THR100HD are stereo (TRS) with the Tip carrying the L/MONO signal, and the Ring carrying the R signal - So if you set the loop to parallel and use two stereo to dual mono adapters you would have one loop for each amp. if you leave it stock set up it would be one loop shared by both amps.

  • @wakjob961
    @wakjob961 8 лет назад +1

    I dig it. But why hasn't anyone figured out how to put the fx loop Send & Return jacks on the footswitch yet? It uses a data cable after all.

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 8 лет назад

      +Wak Job the signal level would be too high for the data cable to handle...remember the "send" signal is at post pre-amp levels, which can be veeeeery high for a data cable to carry through...BUT, i am not an expert in the subject and i could be dead wrong...i do love your idea though! perfect idea to be honest..send yamaha an Email with your idea, maybe they come up with something like that..

    • @JoeBaermann
      @JoeBaermann 7 лет назад +1

      Can't do that with pure datacable unless you convert send/return to digital.... but who would want to do that?
      You want to have them isolated/shielded, that would be one fat cable going to the footswitch.

  • @DrRussPhd
    @DrRussPhd 8 лет назад +6

    Having played both THR 100HD and the THR 10c in a store I am puzzled why Yamaha gimped the THR 100HD by not having any ability for presets on the unit. It is digital and the potential is there for floor controllable presets but they punted. Maybe the DSP chips are so weak in the THR 100HD ( since all they are doing are single amp modeling and a little boost and reverb) that adding memory to this unit would choke it. Also, they really should've put ALL the knobs of the THR 100 on the front of the unit. For the price ( $800 USD) the THR 100 HD is not worth it at this point. The little THR 10c has more options and flexibility even tho it is a practice amp for all practical purposes.
    I get the whole idea of "stripped, not equipped" thing of the THR 100 HD so peeps can add their own pedal chain. But this is really a missed opportunity by Yamaha. I can understand only offering 5 basic amp types with swapping out "tubes" and changing "Class A/AB" as opposed to the endless choice of amps on a Fractal AX8, Line 6 Helix, Kemper Profiling Amp. Yes, keeping it simple goes a long way. But this unit for me doesn't even get started. Which is a shame because I like the intent of the unit, not the execution of the idea. Try again, Yamaha.

    • @coffeewaldo
      @coffeewaldo 8 лет назад +3

      DrRussPhd I like it. No option paralysis. So easy to get a good sound. No tweaking all day and not playing. Set it up quick and play. It sounds better too imo especially for lead. Could never get my kemper to sound right or feel right for lead so it was sold.

    • @coffeewaldo
      @coffeewaldo 8 лет назад +1

      DrRussPhd no computer for me due to I'm having neck issues. I'm using a cell right now. So I am using a 1x12 cab but I can plug it into another 1x12 and have 2 cabs going at once if I want or use a 2x12. I just like the sounds and I really get lost in too many options. But I agree with others they should put the 3 pedal option on the fs or the front of the amp. I love distortion pedals but I just use this amp on its own. I'm not using any pedals of my own.

    CAN SOMEONE please help me out with the correct power and impedance settings for the THR 100 HD.
    I am using the dual version with a stereo box that has 2 Greenbacks (25 Watt @ 16 Ohms each).
    I don't understand the manual fully regarding what to set for impedance and power settings when using both outputs.
    Manual says "you have to calculate the common resistance and power settings". Yeah, very clever!
    I would do that if I knew, if the two outputs were parallel or serial or completely independant from another.
    So, for two separate speakers , each taking only 25 Watt at 16 Ohms ---> what do I set?
    Is it 50 Watt and 8 Ohm due to parallel wiring?
    Or is it 25 Watt 16 Ohm because the setting applies to each output?
    Plz help! Thx in advance.
    Cheers
    Phil

      I got a reply from Yamaha and Sweetwater that say it's fine. However I'll warn you that this amp is terrible - don't even bother. It sounds lifeless and doesn't output what it says it does - there is no way. I had it set to 100w and 16ohm into my H&K 2x12 cab and the volume never increased past noon on the dial - and it wasn't very loud at all. Too bad too it was a great idea - I love the dual amp concept.

    • @landon.cunningham

      No that's the only cab I had - which sounds great with my Grandmeister 36. I think someone did more research and found it wasn't really outputting the wattage it says - depending on the Ohms of your cab. Not sure if there's truth to that or not but that's what I read in one guys comments on the head @ Sweetwater reviews. You might check that out.

    • @jonatanguitar
      @jonatanguitar 8 лет назад

      Yeah actually I've read that too somewhere. I don't have too much of an issue that an amp isn't loud enough (it's often the other way around), but of course I want the sound of the amp to be good as well. Will continue my research! Thanks for your help.

    it would be great if you could pre program the level bias when running the amps together. clean needs to be loud when by itself but softer when mixed with the overdrive and then the overdrive loud by itself. Say clean 100% channel 1 Dirty 100% channel 2 then dirty 90% and clean 70% in hybrid channel.

      The amp has seperate fx loops for both channels, so he uses his stereo delay effect wired in stereo (left delay signal in the "amp 1 loop" and right delay signal in "amp 2 loop") even though he doesn't use both channels. Hope that explains it.

      Did you hear that pedal he's using?
      The sad reality is that there's a lot of amazing dirt boxes on the market that rival many amp drive channels. Yep, even tube amps.

      Soeren isn't using 2 heads but two Marshall power amps on his stage setup, he just did a replication of that with the Yamaha head.
      Not sure how well the Yamaha can handle 4x12 cabs, but if it does well it is a pretty cheap alternative compared to two Marshall 50/50 34EL power amps.
      I would go with heads for clean channel only any day, pedal dirt is way more versatile and can even sound better, plus by using a single valve amp's dirt channels your pretty limited.
      With the Yamaha heads I would opt in for none dual heads, since the dual is limited to 2x50W when you use a full stack.

      Head provides voicing and feel. A hiwatt is an entirely different animal than a vox or marshall, for example

      coffeewaldo I did try it, and i do own a thr10x and wanted an upgrade, i was faced with a totally different amp in every aspect.
      some might like the amp, but it has nothing to do with the thr series.
      i think if they made a thr 75 and 100 versions, with a foot switch and an emulated direct out, that would be killer.

    Sounds ok.... but just doesn't have that natural tube compression. The fx & pedals help this solid state amp But its the unpredictability, and harmonic distortion of a valve amp that gives them a life all their own. Nice try Yamaha! Youre getting closer.

    • @ronedee
      @ronedee 8 лет назад

      NuZ Annunziata In all fairness.... no, I haven't listened in person. But, you cannot "simulate" tube saturation. Or, are you saying that this video, and others online aren't a good representation of what this amp actually sounds like? And if that is your point... I would say that rebroadcast and recorded sound is just as important as it is "in person". At least to me it is. My opinion on this amp is just that. I like, and own several Yamaha products, including a VMAX motorcycle! So, my pov isn't a slam at the brand, just this product. They make clean sounding amps. Maybe they should keep doing that.
