In the troubleshooting section, the Kinect manual details how to sort out a unruly Kinect. You might have to sort out the lights or “try wearing different coloured clothing that contrasts with the background” if it’s not working right. That’s right, not only will Kinect make you tidy up, it’ll also make you change your clothes.
I feel like the worst part about Kinect is that the camera was actually freaking sophisticated. On top of Full Body Tracking (great for VR), it's camera array enables biometric authentication, as well as hands-free control of the operating system.
Too bad it was marketed as a gaming peripheral with the most disgustingly flagrant demonstrations E3 has ever produced.
The guy presenting this is REALLY good at his job, he comes across as a really nice guy.
i love how he keeps going on about how kinect is easy to use and its "effortless" i never once struggled to use a controller. i always struggle to get kinect to fucking work.
Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures online was fun and decent exercise lol. The rest of Kinect stuff was pure shit though. Like someone wanted to hold their hand in the air to start up Gears or wave it about to go on Netflix. Fucking hell.
I love how the audience applauds the ability to rewind and play a movie as if its the 80s. (Unless all these gamers are Johnny Depp fanboys)
The Kinect is VERY different for Eyetoy. Eyetoy is just a pretty much a webcam that just sees you. The Kinect has cameras to see your body and it has infrared lights to sense distance and who is who. They are both cameras but Kinect is much more advance.
This was when Microsoft started going downhill.

Best thing about this whole stupid thing is "I don't have to fumble around in the dark", as if the Kinect could detect your movements precisely without a very well lit room.
he wasn't talking about movement tracking, he was demonstrating the voice recognition. don't need a well lit room for sound waves to travel.
regardless though the kinect is absolutely awful lol
The guy with the "Alice in Wonderland" demonstration, totally blew it. First he says: - Xbox, pause! it pauses. And then he says - Xbox, play! and the movie plays again.
Ok, cool.
But then he says: - I don't have to remember which one is PAUSE..

Love it when he says "it is here, and it is real" LMAO the technology isnt THAT state of the art, just a minor upgrade from ps2's "eyetoy" which has been out for years
The price is actually more then reasonable for what you get. Mainly in the long run. We just set up the gear and plugged it all in. It was a bit odd in a fun way the first few moves but just the intro itself is worth the money, sort of speak.
I would rate this product a 9+//10 by range of price quality. Enjoy all.

@DII117 - That doesn't make sense, Kinect is just a controller, it does make sounds, it's the console that makes all the sounds! And you assume Kinect MUST be used on it's own. Kinect is ideal for casual games and on-rails shooters, but MS has confirmed that many core devs are working with a hybrid model, where gamers will use the 360 controller as normal, and Kinect will add EXTRA features like head tracking, leaning, voice/gesture commands, special melee attacks, grenade throwing perhaps, etc.
@coldfyre18 but forget the games that kinect has the thing is that kinect was made using this phrase: "you move yourself as u want", wii and play station made "move" with a control that's the point

@imdefender there is an adapter cable that comes with the kinect. you can also purchase the adapter separate if for some reason you dont have the adapter cable.
@danieldiaco if you notice, he said "xbox, movies". They may have set the kinect up to get ready for a command when it hears the word "xbox" much like you'd say someones name before speaking to them

i got this today it is quite simply mind-blowing everything about it amazing and i wasnt sure how accurate it would be but it is amazingly accurate and face scanning voice commands even the way the stand had a motor which angles the camera for you its just easily the best peice of console kit on the market hands down

@JUSTINSANEpsn - What has plugging "Kinect into a wall" have to do with the power of the XBox? The reason Kinect needs a power adapter is because it requires more power than a USB slot can provide, therefore those with a non-slim XBox have to use a power adapter with Kinect, those with a slim XBox don't need the adapter, they plug Kinect straight into the custom port on the console.
The eyetoy isn't just a camera. Have you played Antigrav? And the Kinect is newer, therefore it will be more advanced. The eye toy came out in 2003 I think. Kinect came out in 2010. We have had a big difference in technology since 2003.
@gaberosen1 - Because the mic on his headset isn't working, hence that's a backup mic. Haven't you seen that happen on TV many times? :)

All I know is that the guy presenting it talked like a robot. I don't say that because of his tone of voice, his ramrod-straight posture, or the weird way he was holding his hands down but still emoting with them as he spoke...I say that because he talked like a billboard, or the narrator for a TV commercial.
@gamespot how much space do you need ? i don't have too much space in my bedroom.
I know that must be scary as hell doing that live in front of all those people, but he looked worried every time he said a command.

older x360, you need to plug separate power for kinect.
New slim model has a dedicated port, which can connect and power kinect with signal cable.
In the 1960s we watched movies without a remote, and played games without a controller.
So with all this great techno... why did you introduce it using both a hand-held microphone AND the head set mic?

On a advertisment it shows that you can say the word 'Pause' to pause a movie rather than reaching for the remote.
@pinkygod its nothing like the i-toy it has COMPLETELY different technology, the i-toy does the same thing a free web-cam game online can do, the kinect uses thermal heat sensors which makes it more accurate, and you can play when its pitch black

I'm quite excited about the Kinect, however, I have an identical twin. So do you think it will recognise us both, or do you think it will get confused?

@DII117 - It may seem thrid grade to you, but many gamers are capable of seeing Kinects potential for all genres (on it's own or with the 360 controller). :-)
I got one for Christmas and it freaked me out when the sensor moved by itself. I didnt know it did that!
@DII117 - You're distorting the facts. The XBox was MS's first console and it arrived late in the gen (18 months after PS2), hence MS cut it's lifespan short (4 years) to focus on the 360 (which they haven't cut short as many fanboys predicted). Hence MS discontinued making the XBox in 2005 to move to 360. XBL for the original XBox ended in 2010, FIVE YEARS LATER!

No because that wasn't even on phones at the time that the eye toy was released, no, it is not made by microsoft, and yes, it sold pretty well. Microsoft said this was a never before thing. The "You are the controller" part is what I'm talking about. And the kinect is delayed. Every time I play it, it is 1 second off of everything I do.

The only thing "worse" than needing a controller or a remote is thinking that you'll never again need a controller or a remote only to find out that you WILL in fact.....need a controller or a remote.
@nirvanadude007 why do u hate it? Its like you love sitting on your couch with a controller more than u like to play football or basketball etc. On my opinion, this is one step further for the furture of gaming.

@lollertrollol Dude kinect isnt for shooters!! Its for the family to sit down and play a simple, easy game without the hassle of controllers. There will be shooters for it and it is planned. But kinect is on its bare bones at the minute and we need to give it time to expand and wait for later games to be released to it. Ive got kinect, and its absolutely incredible. Dont put kinect down, if you havent got it!!

Kinect was made to compete for Wii for family games and entertainment. If you like Wii you'll like kinect if you like Modern Warfare you'll like a controller games

@insanecaribou It isn't the eye toy was literally that a toy. Next you'll be claiming that its a rip-off of the camera because it captures your image. There is a HUGE difference in the level of technology implemented here.
Kinect was set up for people to try at Dick Smith.....And WOW its heaps better then i even imagined it to be....Really Awesome!

Going back to Kinect. Forget you're a gamer for one moment and imagine you're a dev. You're creating a new FPS for 360 where your gamers will use the 360 controller to move and shoot like every other 360 FPS. Now, can you *really* not think of any way you can use Kinect to add more to your game? I've mentioned a few ideas in my previous post already. I'm not saying all those ideas will happen, but the potential is clearly there :)

is there any hardcore games for kinect? any first person or third person shooters? can i play Black Ops on it or any other games that were released before kinect? you know, games other then fitness games.

@mgbaseball95 - That would be a backup mic, used whenever the headset mic is not working.
@jerodabest The point of Kinect is that it immerses you more into video gaming, something you probably wouldn't be able to do outside. It's just breaking another barrier into realism. I have it myself and it's greater than i thought it would be.
