  • This video explains how you can make your Pothos, Monstera adansonii, or any other vine (and even many other houseplants) more full and bushy!
    Here is the blog post I described in the video on how to properly repot a houseplant:

    I really enjoyed this video. You showed exactly where to make the cuttings so it was very clear. I would definitely like to see a followup video or two to see how the plants adapt to being repotted together. I have to say, tho, that my favorite part of the video was seeing your little helper -- that adorable little dog -- wander into the background around the 8-minute mark.

    Why would you cut the leaf off? Why not cut close to the node and submerge in water? The vines will still be long.

    • @OhioTropics
      @OhioTropics  2 года назад

      I know I was not terribly efficient in this video, but it did the job. I normally use single node cuttings now.

  • @sarahmcglumphy1071

    Is there a reason you couldn't just put the new starts right into the pot instead of using water first? I'm just curious!

    • @OhioTropics
      @OhioTropics  3 года назад +2

      Either one is fine! I just find it a little easier to wait until they grow roots in water first (less monitoring). You can absolutely put them straight into the potting mix as long as you can keep the mix moist.

    On 17th Aug19, I got a length of lemon-yellow coloured guess golden pothos or money plant. I got 4 leaves with roots and kept them in a bottle of water. Same day I had also took a piece of my regular pothos and kept in another bottle of water. By 24th Aug 19, the regular pothos had new root growth with new leaf. But the golden pothos has no growth at all; also one of the pieces had a new leaf growing which had started rotting. So I added a pinch of SAAF in the water after changing it.
    Please advise as to what should I do to make them grow.

    • @OhioTropics
      @OhioTropics  5 лет назад

      Hi Sukanya. I'm not sure what you mean by SAAF? I would just keep monitoring the plants. Not all cuttings will grow at the same rate.

  • @meiko_chan
    @meiko_chan 5 лет назад +1

    Thank you so much for this. I've transplanted my Pothos a few times, but it just keeps getting so darned long and lots of areas have dead leaves now. These tips helped quite a lot.
    A question though - should a trellis be used for when it gets too long? Or should we let it get long or continue to just trim/prune it back to keep it the shape/size, and replant those clippings to get a fuller/lusher plant at the base of the original? Would that work?
    Thanks!

    • @michellebasa7968
      @michellebasa7968 5 лет назад

      Well it depends if your plant is climbing or trailing, probably not because most pathos species are trailers which is basically hanging plants

    • @meiko_chan
      @meiko_chan 5 лет назад +3

      Michelle Basa yeah, I managed to trim it back and keep the good vines and put a few clippings in water to grow roots. I had one vine however that became a climber and stuck itself to my wall and grew huge leaves and just kept growing up the wall. The roots peeled off the paint when I took it down 😂

    • @OhioTropics

  • @knittingggg326

    Do you have any tips on how to keep the leaves growing large as the vine becomes longer? I have a pothos that does grow but the leaves it pushes out stay very small compared to the ones close to the roots.. Your plants look so healthy and beautiful!

      ROSY ROSY fiertalise

    • @OhioTropics
      @OhioTropics  5 лет назад +3

      My first question to you is where do you have your pothos in relation to a window? Light is #1 when it comes to growth. If your plant is not near a window, I would place it right in front of a window if you can. This will help your plant grow better. And of course, fertilize with a good all-purpose fertilizer during the growing season. This should resolve your issue. If you want, you can cut the plant back as well and remove the weaker growth. With increased light and fertilizer, your plant should push out bigger and healthier growth. Hope this helps!

    • @OhioTropics
      @OhioTropics  4 года назад

      You can either continue to grow in water (be sure to add fertilizer regularly though!) or you can plant them in soil. It may take them a while to adjust to the soil since you've had them in water for so long though!

    Massive waste of good leaves. I cut my vines at every node, bunch them up like a big bouquet and then root them in water. You get a lot more plants, little waste and a way bigger plant in the end. Doing it your way makes it leggy again in no time. Just saying...😁
