With a volt meter do the same thing, once you turn on the breaker, with the black lead touch the white wire and with the red touch the other wires one at a time, the one that gives you a reading around 120 is your power the other is your load
How about, what happens if you connect the hot and the load wrong and turn on the breaker? What happens? I'm guessing the wires get super hot and cause a fire right?
Good Video. It will save you energy by shutting off automatically. I have a Wi-Fi light in the hallway with a zwave motion sensor. It shuts off after 1 minute.
I (correctly) installed a motion switch in my bathroom, it worked perfectly for years. Then I started to notice even with the door shut, no motion, the lights would turn on and stay on in the bathroom. I thought maybe the sensor went bad or something. Troubleshooting I figured out that that same switch installed in a different house works fine. I finally know what causes this problem but I am unsure if its possible to fix, any help would be appreciated. The problem is with my wifi router (thats located on the otherside of that same switch wall/ cant be moved). Previously I had a linksys WRT160 N wireless router and the switch worked fine. Now there is a refurbished Asus AC5300 router I bought that was really cheap. I am not sure if its because its a refurbished model thats still broken, or if just the newer router technology triggers the light sensor to go on? Is there a way to possibly fix this problem? Shield the switch sensor from the back? or is it pointless to try? Right now I have resorted to just deactivating the sensor and using the switch as a normal one.
RabidxDog1 same thing happened to me. what I did is I put the wireless router in another room and I used the tp-link Powerline adapters to network my whole house, works awesome. super easy plug and play setup.
Thanks for the quick reply, and keep up the awesome vids, very informative ! Unfortunately my apartment is very small, moving the router as far away as possible doesnt help and while most of my stuff is hardlined I do still require the wifi signal for phones, tablets etc... I am lucky in that the layout of my place only has the bathroom on one side and I would be willing to sacrifice wifi in there if the switch works. Im just going to try to build a Faraday cage (.5-1cm holes) barrier right behind the router antennas on that side and hopefully that works.
I have a similar switch. My wall fixture only has a black wire ( hot) and a white wire ( should be neutral). I connected the white from the switch with the white from the wall. I connected the red & black from the switch with the black from the wall. I connected the green to the bare coper from the wall. But it did not work. What am I doing wrong? Help please!!
Hello, nice video!. I have a problem with the switch (topgreener), it doesn´t turn off, the red light of the motion sensor never turn on. In my wall I only have 2 wires, I do not have ground wire, and my switch doesn´t have neutral wire. Please, may be you help me?
The power source to the 120 VOLTS A/C outlect I want to connect has only three wires BLACK, WHITE and GROUND. If I connect white with white wire, and ground with ground wire, and black wire with red wire, Where do I connect the other red and black wire ?
Many older homes may not have a neutral in the switch box. This unit won't work in that case. They also may not have a ground. The unit will work with no ground.
Some older houses are wired with metal flex conduit and metal receptacle boxes. In this case the conduit and boxes are serving as the ground back to the main breaker box. Easy to test with a volt meter... Test from hot wire (black usually) to the metal box where you are installing the switch and it should read around 120 volts. This shows that the box is grounded . So just attach the ground of the switch to any screw you find on the box.
Dude your videos are excellent! .. subbed .. i have been following you for a while. I could really use your advise on a tv i am trying to repair .. it is a Samsung ue40d5520. It is showing double images and also sometimes the tv turns green still with menu etc .. i cant figure out if i should replace the t-con or is this an issue with the led ribbons? I could really do with the guidance. Love from the uk :)
Michael Sullivan sound like bad tcon board but ribbon cables could cause video issues . get tv boards at shopjimmy.com or electropartsonline.com use code tampatecfriend
When twisting wires together, twist in a clockwise direction. Its the same direction as your twist on wiring connector. Looks like you twisted it counter clockwise when you connected the load wire from the switch.
I was looking too add these too my house and save on my energy bill, but if the sensor has a blinking light which never turns off that defeats the purpose.
How do you determine your black wire is the load?
abghere when you remove the old switch you'll know from the wiring.
With a volt meter do the same thing, once you turn on the breaker, with the black lead touch the white wire and with the red touch the other wires one at a time, the one that gives you a reading around 120 is your power the other is your load
If you don't have a tester and you are not sure what to do, ask your neighbors friends or an electrician
Incorrect answer. Should check with a voltmeter to make sure
How about, what happens if you connect the hot and the load wrong and turn on the breaker? What happens? I'm guessing the wires get super hot and cause a fire right?
i have just black and white with no ground----will the motion switch still work?
what does the black box behind the sensor measure.
Thank you, got my motion switch running
Tampa Tech you are the man bro.
Thanks for your time and help God bless you

Good
Can you make it work with only the 3 wires verses 4 wires
Thanks for posting this with step by step instruction. I just followed and installed mine!
Thanks for the video. I was struggling... Maybe next time I'll read instructions
I have no load wire just black, white and green. How do I install one?
This guy the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have that switch but I have a black n white and a copper no neutral will that work I tried hooking it up it turns on but didn’t shut off
I put red with black black with white green and white with copper ? Is that wrong ?
Do you need to connect the neutral from the power cable or the light cable?
Thank you for this video. I had question but I saw its already answered in the comments.
I am an electrician here in the philippines and you video is very informative. Thanks!👍
Cool thanks Mark!
Thanks dude! Helped a lot👍

awesome work Tampatec
Great vid!
love it. Never knew these things existed. Great for my dad. He wanders around his house a bit. Drives my mum nuts...Hehe.....

Do I have to hook up with ground? Will by house burn down?
Very nice video thanks
I just subscribed you,, coz I like all your videos and very helpful.
Thanks, finally one ... I'm likely to try.
Hwo many lights can work for this sensor
How do you know the colours, I can see you attach different colours!!!! I tried it but didn’t work, does it work on 2 ways switch?
Australian viewers, only a licenced qualified electrician may perform this type of work, sensor light is a great idea, thanks for the tip.
That's terrible.
Lol. Your government doesn't trust you with guns OR electricity!
Ha

WHAT IF YOU GOT THE BLACK AND RED WRONG JACK ??????
I only have 3 wires in the wall
I found the copper wire but no the red wire
a safety thing when you turn a breaker okk put a tape on it that way if a person come to the panel they whont turn it bck on when your on the circuit

Nice video sir
But wire colour different
As black is netrual
Load is yellow
Line is red
Etc
Lom. Cost you more to switch out that switch.
hey
i have a qustion
Idk why but I keep seeing comments on vids that I watch xD
I was looking too add these too my house and save on my energy bill, but if the sensor has a blinking light which never turns off that defeats the purpose.
Hector Garcia-Martinez are you saying its just pulling the same amount of energy if the light is actually on at all times?
Joseph Richardson not the same of course but it’s not saving like others that don’t have the blinking light or solid on.
So no blinking light it is 👍
Electrician tip here. Horizontal plate screws! Vertical is hack!
What do you mean?
Electrician tip: splice your wires before putting a wire nut on them.
Nice sir
very good
Does it work with led lights?
Your so amazing
red will never go to white unless you want to hook it up wrong you do not know what you are talking about you are going to hurt someone
I really want to grow on RUclips
stfu
Why would i
Just why are the switch nobody cares
