If you are experiencing loss in power and efficiency, engine decarbonising just might solve it, but you can never be too sure. Modern engines are developed to an extent where engine decarbonising will almost never be required. So don’t be blindsided by what your service advisor tells you, especially if your car is fairly new and looked after well.
In most cases its found that by cleaning or replacing the airfilter and resetting the ECU as its adaptive solves this issue of dullness. Most people dont know that.

Also, faulty injector can be a cause for carbon buildup like you said.( That can be a leaky injector or If the injection timing is wrong, late injection can cause after burning and eventual buildup of carbon inside). I'm am not familier with the "Pure H2, O2" treatment he mentioned here. But ultimate solution or the actual decarbonisation process requires dismantle of cylinder head.

I use ford aspire diesel BS4. I have noticed smoke especially when downshifting or above 3000 rpm. My service advisor once said this same thing to check the ECU. But haven't done it yet.
