Thanks a lot for the video. It's very useful for me, since I recently got this device and I don't understand all the icons - didn't even know how to switch between scribble and mark text. Good to see that notes added to highlighted text can be exported as txt!
Hang on: exported as txt, or as a pdf? I'm really interested to hear if you (or anyone else) can confirm that export options include txt. Anyone? Thanks!
What I like with your videos is that you not only show interesting hidden features of the Boox devices but also very interesting bayesian literature references (do you have any other ? ) (I would also enjoy and follow if you create tutorials about bayesian analysis in dedicated videos - maybe in a dedicated channel-)
Awesome! Thanks for the overview. I think I was sleeping on NeoReader before. I automatically assumed it would be bad and just installed a 3rd party reader. Finally starting to dig into it and it's surprisingly good!
@@EReaderChannel haha, it definitely isn't! My other primary complain is that the built-in dictionary doesn't do a fuzzy search, so it's not compatible with inflected words, such as conjugated verbs.
Brilliant! First YT vid that answered most of my questions about exporting annotations & notes! Q: you mentioned two export options, PDF & ?. Also, towards end of video i see an option on-screen to export to EverNote. Does that option yield a pdf that EN can read in Outline format?
PDF & PNG (or some sort of image)? sorry I don't use EverNote so I don't know. also the OS shown in the video is quite old and might have been updated in newer versions.
@EReaderChannel Thank you for being so attentive to an old video & responding so promptly - on a weekend, no less! Yes, I gather Boox has really changed the UI with subsequent upgrades, but I assume they've maintained functional compatibility. I am hoping someone can speak to whether it's possible to export that file as a data file - a series of records, one for each captured passage and associated annotation. It would make the data much more usable. I can imagine fiddling with it in a pdf reader, then writing a routine to convert the contents of the file to a delimited record file, but that's a lot of friction. In any event I suspect another approach will be necessary, if only because only half the stuff I need to read, annotate and capture will be in pdf format. The other half will be epub docs or a similar format. It amazes me that doing something so obviously useful is still, in 2024, such a pain. At any rate, you've convinced me that this device is close enough to be workable. One thing that would really help would be the ability to link this Android tablet to a PC for cut & paste, the way I can with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I gather that cut & paste to another Android app IS possible, but the latest version of the Boox UI still buries cut & paste operations layers deep in menus, rather than following Android standard conventions. Thanks again!
Apparently so. Which makes these videos - and a series of them produced by BOOX in 20233 as tutorials - really valuable. Of course they're really making work for themselves (& everyone else) by refusing to follow standard UI conventions for Android. And because they've done so - causing everyone a great deal of aggravation - they need to mess with the UI & introduce changes with repeated upgrades to the Boox software. That means they will have to continually re-make their tutorial videos. That's daft! I appreciate that they're working to improve things, but simply following Android standard conventions in the first place would have been infinitely smarter. For instance, the cut/copy/paste options are buried menus - & multiple clicks - deep, where no one will easily find them. And where they're slow & painful to access. 'Cause why? Thus isn't a case of software immaturity. It's bone-headed arrogance, an insistence on re-inventing the wheel, and forcing every user to play a frustrating game of "Where have they hidden that command?" and "Do they even support this [bone-basic] function?". Boox has accomplished wonders as a tiny company with limited staff. But if you ARE a tiny firm with a new product, it would be a hell of a lot smarter to follow industry conventions and not make life deliberately difficult for your customers. The e-Ink market is too small and fragile to survive in if you alienate your customer base. As it grows and the market becomes more lucrative, the majors (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung & Lenovo etc.) will enter it. With considerably higher volumes, lower costs, and a commitment to industry standard UI and command structure to ensure ease of use. And idiosyncratic developers like Boox will be toast in a heartbeat. I love seeing innovative upstart start-ups bring new ideas to market, and I'm rooting for them. But there's a reason why consistency & commitment to end-user usability win out. I find the promise of Boox devices really appealing, but I DO NOT want to fight with it, & I do not want to have to make learning how to accomplish simple tasks an engrossing, time-consuming hobby. I want a tool to help me get stuff done! Supernote doesn't do nearly enough, though it does it well. Boox does WAY more, but makes you fight with it and forces a long & never-ending learning curve. Sheesh! What a market!
I found it confusing when exporting my handwriting - on my tab ultra, the exported single page pdf (scribble) doesn't contain what I can see in the thumbnail - it only exported some ink writing but not marker. Is there any settings I must enable?
When you simply save a PDF (as opposed to expiring a new PDF) are the annotations and "scribbles" saved as a regular annotation in the PDF? In other words, could I then modify them in any other PDF reader (such as Acrobat Reader)? OR, is the only option to "export" them to a new PDF, with all those annotations "flattened" into the new PDF?
no need to export. just annotate or scribble on the tablet. connect the tablet with your PC and get the files out (or find some ways to sync). then you can modify annotations and scribbles in other PDF readers. not flattened.
Trying out the Boox Air 2 - manual is a disaster, icons not defined, no "getting started" section, undefined terminology. Highlight feature is irregular and can't select words with pen, only adds scribbles. Any thoughts on how to get better descriptions on how to use? Thanks!
True. Boox did not introduce their product well enough. The My Deep Guide channel has some in-depth introduction and tutorial of some Boox devices. I will try to make some videos (and articles as well) on some topics. Let me know what you want to know.
btw, there is a quick toggle on the top menu bar in the reading app to enable/disable scribble. When "quick scribble" is disabled, you can use your pen to select text.
Hi! Ever since I updated my onyx boox note air I keep getting a ”new” notes document everytime I want to take notes alongside a pdf document. In the sense, even if it is the same pdf, next time I open it and want to take notes, instead of presenting me with with the notes document with the notes I took last time I read it, it produces a new one. This means I’m stuck with like 17 different documents of notes for a one and the same book. It didnt do this before I upgraded! Do you know how I can solve this? Thanks!
Love your content. I saw that you also owned a Max Lumi. With PDF reading at your desk, wouldn't you always prefer to use the larger eink reader instead of the note air2?
Hi! Can you make annotations in color in the Boox Air Note 2 Plus? I realized the option is there, but when selected, the ink remains in grey scale. Thanks!
You can choose highlight color in the note app. They will appear in grayscale on monochromatic eink screens, but when exported, they will appear in the chosen color

Thanks a lot for the video. My only question is I don’t have all the export settings you seem to have (eg. “Annotation export does not contain X” toggle). Any idea why that is? I want only my notes and annotations, not all the metadata it default attached to it when you export them. Thanks
