🎬 Millie Bobby Brown steps into the fantasy genre as Elodie, a young woman whose marriage doesn't quite go to plan. Dragons, kingdoms and betrayal are the ingredients here, but is Damsel as groundbreaking as it claims to be? Connor has a look to find out!

That dragon had the aim of a stormtrooper whenever she was in danger, it actually got comical after awhile.

Didn't expect Netflix to put a masterpiece anyway so appreciated as the entertainment it was. I think having high expectations, even with the promises, is already a mistake in itself and a bit naive as a viewer. It's like expecting a a rock to be a diamond.... So I liked the movie :)

I saw IGN give it a 3/10 and thought to myself "it can't be that bad". Watched it yesterday with my gf... I think 3 was a pretty accurate score

I can't give a full review because I couldn't continue watching it. The opening scene with knights in full mail and some plate armour fast repelling down ropes into a cave was as much as I could stand. Turned it off right there.

I understand your strong view on the 'typical fairytale' and the broken promise of not being that. I do agree with many of your critiques, but I see it differently. To me, the promise made in the beginning was that it is not about a prince saving a princess. That promise holds true. It is not a heterosexual love story fairytale. The stepmother is not evil. The dragon is not good nor evil, but a fierce force of nature. Maybe the CGI could have been better; but I really enjoyed many of the scenes. I think character development could have been written slightly better with Elodie having some strong character flaws. Yet it is still a fairy tale. One where the damsel and the hero are the same.

I agree. I think MBBs acting was a little meh, but I liked the concept. It wasn't supposed to be the best movie ever made, I think for what it was supposed to be, it delivered. I enjoy MBB in other things, I think this felt more rushed so she didn't have time to really dig into the character and get to know her so it made it feel a bit fake. There were just a few scenes where I was like "nobody would do that in her situation. Why is she closing her eyes? She needs to stay alert." Stuff like that. But that's not her fault if that's how it was written. I think Netflix just has a habit of rushing to get things out, MBB is an expensive actress with a busy schedule so they only had so much time.

@deathbloom27 , that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing it. I agree that she seems to not have had enough time to fully emerse in the character, and there are scenes where she does things no normal person would and thus make it all less relateable. I guess that is part of the dark side of Netflix

Why can't we get a fairytale movie where both the man and the woman save each other. Seriously why can't we have that now days.

    I liked that movie.
At first, I thought that Elodie was special because she got away. Then I realized that the dragon let her escape so she could toy with her, she could play with her food before enjoying her sweet revenge. When I realised that, I wanted to watch the movie again to pay more attention to the dragon and how she tricks and lures Elodie. She knows full well there his a safe place with a map and she knows where the map leads. The dragon wants to smolder Elodie's hopes before devouring her.
I liked that some movie tropes are presented and painfully obvious just to be broken the second later. When Elodie runs to the dragon and slides under it to stab it in the hearth ; you would think it would be the end, but it does shit and that move was pointless.
    I seriously liked it.
    Gonna watch it again.

Millie Bobby Brown does a good job with what she's given. The script was rather trite. It had soild moments... the best were the ones between Angela Bassett and Robin Wright. Millie and Nick Robinson had chemistry. Overall, it wasn't great.
I'm just happy to see more Fantasy movies. It's my favorite genre. But it's a sadly neglected genre... because it's so difficult to tell a fairytale without being cliché. They're "tales as old as time" afterall.

This crap stunk from beginning to end! Non-stop! If you truly enjoyed parts of the movie, that's fine. Some ppl
can easily eat their lunch sitting next to a pile of dog-crap covered with flies. Perhaps you're one of them.
    Good for you!

Without the greater context of what it was trying to be, I enjoyed the film. After understanding what it was going for I realized they missed the mark… big time. Still entertaining but wouldn’t watch it again 🤷🏽‍♂️.
