Thank you, Dr Ashenden - you are right, Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and the only Way, the only Truth, and the only Life. What a beautiful way to put it - we fall down a snake, and the Lord comes with a ladder to take us where He wants us to be. You are also right, the Koran is relatively incoherent, and nothing like the gospels, or the Good Book itself, apart from the bits here and there it borrows from without reference. I found it too unpalatable to read. There is an interesting theory about the lack of historical evidence about Mohammed and the Koran ... see Pfander films, who have done a lot of investigation into the evidence, or lack thereof. But the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
I sometimes consider the alternatives to Christianity as sign posts pointing away from Christ. After all Jesus said he was the way the truth and the life. Who or what would motivate a person to put up a sign post pointing away from Christ and who gets your soul if you follow the alternative sign post? Jesus told us no one comes to the Father but through him. We all take a wrong turn from time time but we do at least have a way through Christ of resetting our compass.

How are Christians supposed to conceptualise the beliefs of our pre-Christian ancestors? It seems to me insufficient and shallow to simply call them devil worshippers etc. There were presumably good and bad men among them with varying understandings of morality and the spiritual world. And given that they came before knowledge of Christ was possible it seems unfair to condemn them to hell. Did God send angels and prophets to other nations that we simply have no clear record of? Also, were our ancestors given the knowledge of Jesus after they died so they could choose to reject of accept it?

The difference between Islam and Christianity is not the difference between the Church (considered as institution) and the Ummah but the difference between Christ and Muhammad. Let's be honest: the church, as institution, has often been just as violent as Muhammad and the subsequent Caliphs who invaded and conquered so many Christian territories. The persecution and killing of heretics; forced conversions in Spain and elsewhere; the coercive activities of the inquisitors; the calling of the crusades; and so on. It is difficult to see how all of this is compatible with Christ. If Islam is not a religion of peace then neither is Christianity (as it has been practiced for centuries). Christ is peace, that's true. But Muslims look at Christians, such as America Evangelicals who are content to support Israeli and wars of aggression against benighted Muslims, and wonder whether Christianity is a religion of peace!

I appreciate you can speak about comparing and contrasting what the founding documents of each religion have to say. I read the Pope's Easter message and am left wishing he could do the same. Instead, I read messages that seem to express they are all the same or at best to compare and contrast them is divisive and not nice disrupting fraternity. You could read my thoughts on the National Catholic Register's article about it if you would like. Suffice it to say, I don't think it was pointing to Jesus and what He had to say most of the time like reflecting His light should seem to be. Raph Martin had a good TY video recently about God's Word and people losing faith in it. Others seems to think an oak nut (seed) grows into producing apples when it is fully "mature."

I agree He isn't asking for us to decide when it will end. But pray we agree for some generation the things mentioned in Scripture and Article 7 will occur. I pray for whatever generation that is to be found waiting, watching and faithful. He does command that we keep watch to be found watching and waiting when He returns. The truth about Jesus does include warning He gave us about what must occur before He comes. So, let's be faithful in all including an expectation that what He said will occur because I fear the warning signs will be missed because there have been so many boys falsely crying wolf before the wolf comes. So, people have and will say 2 Peter 3, where is this coming, surely it will continue as it always has. This was a longed-for expectation of the Church at time point. Surely, there has to be watchman on the wall and some not blowing their trumpet at the wind, so all are not like Babylon when it fell not recognizing the writing on the wall. When He comes shall He find faith. Whether we are alive when He comes or gone before then I pray, we all are pleasing to Him when He comes.
I feel this is a time to be alert to not fall asleep. To keep our candles light with plenty of oil in our lamps. Mother Mary pray for us. I think Revelation has some hope to be with our Mother Mary:

What a beautiful way to put it - we fall down a snake, and the Lord comes with a ladder to take us where He wants us to be. You are also right, the Koran is relatively incoherent, and nothing like the gospels, or the Good Book itself, apart from the bits here and there it borrows from without reference. I found it too unpalatable to read. There is an interesting theory about the lack of historical evidence about Mohammed and the Koran ... see Pfander films, who have done a lot of investigation into the evidence, or lack thereof. But the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
I sometimes consider the alternatives to Christianity as sign posts pointing away from Christ. After all Jesus said he was the way the truth and the life. Who or what would motivate a person to put up a sign post pointing away from Christ and who gets your soul if you follow the alternative sign post? Jesus told us no one comes to the Father but through him. We all take a wrong turn from time time but we do at least have a way through Christ of resetting our compass.

How are Christians supposed to conceptualise the beliefs of our pre-Christian ancestors? It seems to me insufficient and shallow to simply call them devil worshippers etc. There were presumably good and bad men among them with varying understandings of morality and the spiritual world. And given that they came before knowledge of Christ was possible it seems unfair to condemn them to hell. Did God send angels and prophets to other nations that we simply have no clear record of? Also, were our ancestors given the knowledge of Jesus after they died so they could choose to reject of accept it?
It seems to me that you don't understand the seriousness of sin and betrayal of the Divine by mankind?

The difference between Islam and Christianity is not the difference between the Church (considered as institution) and the Ummah but the difference between Christ and Muhammad. Let's be honest: the church, as institution, has often been just as violent as Muhammad and the subsequent Caliphs who invaded and conquered so many Christian territories. The persecution and killing of heretics; forced conversions in Spain and elsewhere; the coercive activities of the inquisitors; the calling of the crusades; and so on. It is difficult to see how all of this is compatible with Christ. If Islam is not a religion of peace then neither is Christianity (as it has been practiced for centuries). Christ is peace, that's true. But Muslims look at Christians, such as America Evangelicals who are content to support Israeli and wars of aggression against benighted Muslims, and wonder whether Christianity is a religion of peace!
