- Many claim that Germany could have won the Second World War, had they landed in Britain, after the fall of France. This would result in a peace treaty, so the Germans are free to invade the Soviet Union without having to garrison France and worry about a possible D-Day.
So what would happen had Operation Sealion succeeded, and why it wasn’t attempted historically? We would see if this would result in a German victory, or maybe it somehow backfires, and the Germans lose even quicker than they did historically.

A more realistic way for germany to gain the french navy might be that in the terms of the french surrender, france would have less reparations but need to give up a large portion of their fleet until they can repay it or something like that..

I like the idea, but that is assuming that the French don't destroy it themselves. For example Bulgaria was forced to give up some of their ships too, and a naval admiral sunk a submarine on purpose.

@@stargazer-elite WW1 Canada is what you are talkin about, but for WW2 the Canadians were really just another bounty of allie cannon fodder in the early stages of WW2, mostly the Americans took up the ferocity aim for the allies as well as teh Soviets taking the spotlight.

Hey I like unrealistic scenarios because the realistic ones are over saturated my personal favorite alt history is if Jeanne,D’Arc (Joan of Arc) became the queen of France and established a royal dynasty I actually wrote an entire script on this idea it was absolutely terrible but I enjoyed writing it so have fun with whatever idea hits your brain
I also prefer unrealistic scenarios, so I will do some in the future, it's a though balance

some mistakes : the french fleet wasnt controled by Vichy France, juste before they were attached by the british at Mers El Kebir, they even tried to contact the british and were surprised by the attack coming from allies, secondly Germany tried to take prisonner/destroy the british troopsat Dunkirk, but the French kept them long enough at Lille and Dunkirk for the british to flee back to GB
Yeah Germany didn't just let them go at Dunkirk they were trying everything they could do to crush them but the French Bravely held their ground so their allies could escape.

The French navy did no such thing.
The French Fleet WAS in fact controlled by Vichy France, France had already signed the Peace deal with Germany. The British in fact contacted the French Fleet at Mers El Kebir, not the other way around It is in fact YOU making the mistake there.
At Dunkirk British troops also held the line right up until the last day, and almost half the 'fleeing' troops pulled off that beach were French. Britain pulled more troops off that beach than were IN the BEF.

They didnt even have a chance to land in britain, the royal navy was just to strong, combined with germany... Lacking key components to a succesfull landing.
Lel almost every naval invasion of the british isles by anyone who tried was successful (Romans, Celts, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, etc). The only ones that had bad luck where the Spanish.

I dislike the idea of trying to be “realistic”
This is an alternative history, there is no realism to keep. You should try and keep it logical and reasonable, but “realistically”, anything could’ve happened.
This is the biggest split in the community. I do something unrealistic but fun, people complan. I do something as realistic as possible, people say that there is no need for that. I'm really split on what I should do in the future, neither options seem to work
@@rewriting-history The fun behind alt-history for me isn’t the how this thing happened it’s what if it did. We’re already assuming something that didn’t happen. For example, yes the German army would be swept into the sea after landing, but what does that change in the grand scheme? Nothing. It changes nothing. People who complain about realism were going to complain about something, and they’re just using a vague sense of what *would* happen to restrict what we consider *could* happen.

Leningrad would be secured, but Finland would grow in size, this may stop the continuation war.
There was a vote held in the Finnish parliament to decide what they would do, the military leader Mannerheim suggested to accept but the vote failed. And then the winter war kicked off.

They could just airdrop in supplies??
There weren't enough planes to airdrop supplies for an army of 100,000 soldiers. Heavy equipment would have to be transported by sea. Even if they airdropped supplies, it would be small arms and food, which is not enough to besiege London, they would need artillery and tanks
@@rewriting-history Ammunation and humanatarian supplies could be airdropped with the few transport planes they did have, although tanks and heavy equipment would indeed need to be supplied by sea. If they only used convoys for heavy equipment they'd need less convoys over all and they would be harder to track.

In a scenario where lord Halifax was made prime Minister instead of Churchill, Britain may have signed a peace treaty and sea lion wouldn't have been necessary.
In this scenario, Germany would have been free to attack Russia.

It would have required the support of the French extant fleet from Vichy and the Regia Marina, which was occupied with the RN in the Med.
It would be a lot easier to invade Gibraltar, Malte and suez than to just directly invade Britain

Hi, I briefly checked these videos. I suggest you get into mapping, as it adds more visual variety. Content is good, I can hear you're relatively young, keep it up and don't quit. The only way to get better is to keep doing what you suck at or want to improve. Views don't matter, the only thing that matters is you having fun and learning. Operation sealion is a noobtrap, if germany succeed, the USA problaby would enter in the war and then the germany would collapse, because now Germany couldn't invade USSR, meanwhile the USSR would be rebuilding his army to defeat Germany and won the inevitable war.
Yeah, Operation Sealion is an entire suicide mission and a half, with Germany having no fleet that would rival the British. Even with the French Navy, the combined Axis Fleet is still weaker than the British Royal Navy. But if they divide and conquer with the Submarines, they would at least have a sliver of a chance.
In regards of the Gibraltar situation, an easy way would be for Italy to demand the Spanish's Balearic Islands as an Airport Island to do their Air Operations and extend their range closer to Gibraltar and enable some Air Parity against the Royal Air Force. It would at least open a chance for the Axis to take the French Navy out of the Mediterranean if only they got lucky.
Battle of Britain is an entirely different beast though, on one hand, Germany can bait the British into dueling in the English Channel, where both sides would potentially lose more pilots than they would if they fight over Britain. Another would be if they continue bombing air fields and the factories building them in spite of Berlin being bombed and Hitler getting his ego hurt and ordering the flattening of London. But regardless, Germany lacked a proper landing fleet, aka Landing Ships and the support that America and Britain had during D-Day.
But if Germany was able to secure Britain, it would either A) Make Britain fight from Canada with hopes of reclaiming the homelands.
B) Britain might fold and promptly make a white peace, in favor of the Germans, but still remain somewhat afloat, they'll probably lose colonies in Africa, and Japan would definitely claim the Eastern colonies as Hitler would rather have swats of Africa than Asia. Records barely showed his interests in Asia, but did show that he has some interests in African colonies that the Allies have.
Problem is whether Post-War, Germany would want to invade the Soviet Union, as they now have large swats of land that they wanted in the West instead of the East. And it is a big deal when Germany and Hitler hate Communism and would more than willingly bring down the Soviet Union down to make even more land from the fallout. Which would potentially either have Germany beat up the USSR with no Western Front to worry about and an Italy to cover or the losses and casualties from Sealion would dampen the Operation and make Europe fall into the clutches of the Soviet Union.
But I think rambled more than enough for this one, all in all, Operation Sealion is a definite meme of an Operation proposal with lacking plans and resources to do so.
What if soviet union have free and fair election
Sealion didn't happen as the cost of fighting 2 fronts was taking atoll. The Nazis would of reignited Sealion if Russia had fell. The Nazis focused on Russia as there was an easy attack, or so they thought. They also believed in the defenses along the western front and that America was going to stay out of the war. Then Japan attacked Pearl and the Americans were like "Oh, ya'll want to play!" The Yanks then mobilized and with in a few months were shipping thousands of men across the Atlantic. The Nazis made a lot of assumptions, along with a belief that Japan weren't going to do something extremely stupid. The battle of Britain also didn't go amiss with the Nazis, they out numbered the RAF, the problem being that tactically Britain out shone the Nazis on the day, with the use of radar being pivotal in the outcome. In the words of Winston... "We shall never surrender!!"
