The actual "War Zone part" is a small area in a Province called Lanao Del Sur, specifically Marawi. Just so anyone who reads this post on your comments is informed. As a Chinese that went there to visit Philippines for the very 1st time. I have to say I am amazed that they are so kind and polite. From rich to middle class to even poor people. Everyone is so nice and so kind and always smiling. Very different from Usa... If you give all people that lives in poverty from Philippines, I guarantee you that 90%+ will all become doctors
These videos will never be featured in the international commercial media because it's raw. Look at that, soldiers are talking with the locals like a normal human being. They'd even smile. I was born in Panay Island but I worked and lived in Mindanao (Iligan City) for over a decade. I consider Mindanao my second home. I am now a US citizen and I am highly considering retiring in Mindanao. It's lovely place, full of diversity and mind you has a lot of safe places to visit. Finn, if ever you come back to the Philippines, visit Camiguin Island. I am sure Kyle Jennerman will agree with me that Camiguin is the safest if not one of the safest in the whole of Mindanao or of the whole country. Fair winds on all of your journeys.

Finn dont worry, most of Mindanao is safe specially now with the Martial Law in place. I was just in Philippines, stayed in my home town Davao City for couple months and I get to travel the south part of Mindanao in Saranggani Province, lots of places to go! if you have the time, then def visit Glan beaches and White Water Tubing in NLU Maitum, Saranggani! Enjoy! :)

People should know that Mindanao is a massive group of islands composed of 6 administrative regions, 27 provinces & 33 cities with a total population of more than 21 million people. Another fact is that more than 70% of the population of Mindanao adhere to Christianity (majority of which are Roman Catholics), about 20% are Muslims and 10% adhere to Other Religions. Most part of Mindanao are relatively safe even for foreign tourists with the exception of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) that consists of five predominantly Muslim provinces of Basilan, Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and Lanao del Sur where the current conflict in Marawi is located. Unfortunately, these are the places in Mindanao that foreign tourists should avoid for now. If you look at the map, you can find these provinces on the west coast of Mindanao and the Zamboanga Peninsula. The Martial Law in Mindanao was declared just to make sure that the conflict in Marawi is contained & will not spill over to neighboring provinces. Rest assured that people's civil liberties are still being upheld & recognized by the government & the only difference is that there will be more military presence in some areas & the writ of habeas corpus is suspended so the military can question & make arrests of suspected terrorists even without warrant of arrest. The military check points are in place to make sure that the terrorists trapped in Marawi will not be able to escape. The Martial Law in Mindanao is good only for 60 days unless the President will extend its implementation & the Philippine Congress will approve it. I think that Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has learned its lessons from the past and is now doing a great job implenting Martial Law. We have yet to hear any reports of abuses so far & trust me when I say that nothing can escape the Philippine media & international media covering the events on ground, lol! The AFP is a more professional organization now as compared to the Marcos era. This is just to give people watching this vlog a better perspective & understanding of Mindanao, The Land of Promise!:-)

Finn, I recognise the town from your drone view. Surely it is Hinatuan. I came here directly after the typhoon of November 2012 (check out my vids about the typhoon on my Travel Lord channel). Enchanted River was great and Tinoy An Falls was in full flow after the typhoon rains. My RUclips channel Train Lord and Travel Lord show these vids. Back then there was no martial law and so easy to travel through to Davao and General Santos City and CDO etc.
I've been watching {stalking you LOL) your video backwards for some reason, and enjoying all the views a lot and also thankful for your thoughtful insights regarding your experience in the PI. I was born with that checkpoints haha.Before you enter Davao City you need to passed through those checkpoints.That's not new in my City.That was implemented long time ago.What new as of now is that you can always see military walking around the city.Enjoy

The martial law makes me feel safe unlike here in Metro manila, so many pickpockets and robbers since so many are against the curfew, they removed the police roving the area

The Martial Law in Mindanao was declared just to make sure that the conflict in Marawi is contained & will not spill over to neighboring provinces. Rest assured that people's civil liberties are still being upheld & recognized by the government & the only difference is that there will be more military presence in some areas & the writ of habeas corpus is suspended so the military can question & make arrests of suspected terrorists even without warrant of arrest. The military check points are in place to make sure that the terrorists trapped in Marawi will not be able to escape. The Martial Law in Mindanao is good only for 60 days unless the President will extend its implementation & the Philippine Congress will approve it. I think that Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has learned its lessons from the past and is now doing a great job implenting Martial Law. We have yet to hear any reports of abuses so far & trust me when I say that nothing can escape the Philippine media & international media covering the events on ground, lol! The AFP is a more professional organization now as compared to the Marcos era. This is just to give people watching this vlog a better perspective & understanding of Mindanao, The Land of Promise!:-)

I felt like i'm 5 mos. late in subscribing to your channel Finn. :) It all started while searching for charity activities and was able to watch that one vid with your plan to build a school on Cebu and now up until tonight i'm trying to catch up on all the vids you posted. You had very raw and natural feels in all the videos which I really love (as well as not being an extravagant traveler). Also, the best part is that you're promoting tourism in my country, which provides jobs for the locals and we are grateful for it.

Finn, I recognise the town from your drone view. Surely it is Hinatuan. I came here directly after the typhoon of November 2012 (check out my vids about the typhoon on my Travel Lord channel). Enchanted River was great and Tinoy An Falls was in full flow after the typhoon rains. My RUclips channel Train Lord and Travel Lord show these vids. Back then there was no martial law and so easy to travel through to Davao and General Santos City and CDO etc.
I've been watching {stalking you LOL) your video backwards for some reason, and enjoying all the views a lot and also thankful for your thoughtful insights regarding your experience in the PI. I was born with that checkpoints haha.Before you enter Davao City you need to passed through those checkpoints.That's not new in my City.That was implemented long time ago.What new as of now is that you can always see military walking around the city.Enjoy

The martial law makes me feel safe unlike here in Metro manila, so many pickpockets and robbers since so many are against the curfew, they removed the police roving the area
But the problem is people in Manila dont want it
