    Wishing I had spent a little more for the Format 4 version of my Felder shaper. As a small custom shop I don’t leave my machine in one setup like a production shop might. The programmable setup would be a great time saver and probably pay for itself within the first year.
    Nice video Steve. You get a little better every week.

      Thanks Rich. Your rationale is exactly why I upgraded. I don't fiddle much with setups anymore. Steve

    Hey Steve, any chance you will be doing a review of this shaper? I am so torn between Format 4 and SCM quality wise, I see more negative comments about felder than SCM but I like certain felder features. Great channel btw.

      I do not intend to do a review of this shaper as the current model electronics have changed significantly from my 2016 model machine so am not sure of how applicable my review would be. I have seen some negative comments about Felder but my experiences with the machines and the technical support has been pretty good and any issues I have had were resolved. Steve

    Steve, thank you for this video, I have the same machine and this is great for me to start to understand the programing side of the machine.
    Also thank you for the explanation of the adjusting the out board fence for a full profile cut, The filler strip? I assume that is an A
    Aigner product and I need one
    As for Alpine Workshop It is great, I went last year I think for the advanced joinery class and want to go that all the classes maybe this year if possible.
    Might see you there PK...
    I will watch this a bunch of times and try it and hit you up with questions if you don't mind
    Absolutely a great video for me at this time with my learning steps with the Profil 45.
    thank you.

      Thanks Glen. The filler strip is an Aigner option and IMO is a must have. There is another option that has an adjustable finger for support of rebates that I find much less useful. Questions are fine. Steve

    Hi Steve Great Video, and an even greater machine. It looks a Fantastic bit of kit, just one thing i noticed is that although you enter and save the cutter & fence settings in the programme for future use, when you actually come back to using that cutterhead at another time you still have to remember to set the offset for the out feed fence or do you include that info on your data sheet? Not sure but on most virtual keyboards hold the stylus on the arrow key for a second and that normally keeps it in capitals until you tap it again. Keep the videos coming. 👍👍👍

      @extremewoodworker  2 года назад

      Thanks Colin. I just record the offset on the data sheet as it is a manual adjustment. I figured out the caps lock, turned out it was the down arrow. Something must have been lost in the translation on that. Steve

    Hi Steve, I have a Hammer combination machine. I always seem to struggle with doing "cross cut" profiles. I 'd love to see how you go about it. Being a self-learned hobbyist, I really rely on your channel for this more advanced content. Thanks

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker  3 года назад

      Hi Bram. Most of my crosscut profiles involve tenons or cope and stick joinery. Is that type of cut what you are struggling with? If so, this video shows making an angled tenon for a hexagonal table: ruclips.net/video/uuWA8SdwmuM/видео.html
      I don't recall if I have a video for a cope and stick door. Steve

      I noticed that you put your cross-cut fence behind your piece, while I leave it in it's table saw configuration with the back piece of the fritz&franz and a sacrificial piece to avoid blow out. The pneumatic clamp probably also helps w.r.t. keeping it in position.
      The problem I 'm having is small gaps on wider (>75mm) cope and stick joinery.

      @@brambaert461 Hi Bram. A good hold down clamp will help as before I started using these, I noticed the workpiece tended to shift during the cut (gives a snipe type appearance). Since you have a combo machine your sliding table will likely have a trajectory that moves away from your blade at the trailing edge. This isn't a problem with the saw but could cause issues with the shaper especially if you are using the shaper fence as the reference. For the first step, I would verify that your cope cut is square. If not, I would set the fence back and use a small spacer block as a registration point. Using a jig such as the Aigner Contermax should also solve the problem. Steve

    Steve,
    Excellent video! I am ready to order a profil 45 z and was contemplating x-motion. SOLD. Very instructional and explains why the x-motion adds value. Continue to create this kind of content because it is lacking out there. I plan on going to the Alpine workshop after my machine is delivered.
    Question - did you go 7.5, 10 or 13.5 hp?

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker  3 года назад

      Thank you PK Woodworking. I will be attending the Advanced Joinery class again in October. I ordered a 10 HP machine and what I got was a 10 KW machine (so 13.5 HP). I am glad I had margin for the phase converter. Steve

      Steve,
      I ordered mine yesterday! The wait begins. I will have nowhere to walk in my shop, but I will figure it out!
      I was very specific, max of 10hp for my phase perfect!
      Thanks again for helping me choose!
      PK

      @@pkwoodworking Congratulations! I feel the pain for shop space. My theory is that machines and tools are not solids but are fluid and expand to completely fill whatever size container they are placed in. LOL. Steve
