You are totally right, I was gonna create a brand name like many publishers have on KDP, but then some publishers warned me and said my account would get banned immediately, now I use a human pen name.
I'm so glad you were told ahead of time! Luckily I found a generic pen name but at first I got pushbacks from some really ridiculous things that felt nowhere near keyword stuffing!
Very helpful. I too am new to KDP, just started in April of this year with journals and coloring books. Having trouble with getting momentum but I guess that is to be expected at first given the competition. Although new with the new categories for coloring books mine have somehow disappeared from the search results and are hard to find unless you key in the actual book number. Can you do a video on this subject in the future
Yes, momentum is definitely slow but keep publishing, because once it picks up you will be grateful you have that many more books already on the shelf! That's odd that you don't think your books are showing. Are you saying if you search for them by the exact title, they still won't show up? That could be a factor of other books having stronger keywords that you are targeting... but I would definitely be interested in hearing more about it and seeing what I can help resolve!
what should we include in the copyright section of the book if i am publishing using pen name , i will use pen name in my ebook copyright section not the real one? i am confuse a bit about this
That's a great question. I am always hesitant to answer any type of legal questions so don't consider this formal legal advice! I would say that many authors will use their pen name and/or their publishing company name with their copyright. But if you have highly-valuable content (like writing an actual novel) you would want to check with a lawyer to make sure you have it all absolutely correct. Most people I follow - and the books I publish - are low content, so they are pretty difficult to make so unique I would fight for a copyright!
I would like to make journals. Is there any way to have like a "store front" under a brand name without entering that name as the author name? I am sad as it seems amazon only wants human names from what I gathered in comments?
I'm not sure I am following. You can definitely use a pen name (or make it a brand name) as the author name, and then you can create an author page for those books so they are all grouped together. So for instance, you can definitely create journals and make the author name "Creates Sparkle Publishing" and then direct people to that author page. What they don't want you to see is keywords as part of your name. So I would stay away from "Creates Sparkle Journals" because that keyword might trigger some flags and be more trouble than it's worth. Did I understand that correctly and does that answer your question?
You can use a different name (aka "pen name") as your author name! Just make sure you sign up for a new account using your legal name to be able to receive payments and have an authorized account.
As a "pen name" I use my real brand name (from Poland) so I was wondering if they will have a problem too. I don't have to many books being LIVE, so I can decide now, better before than later, but I don't want to publish under my real name... :(
I don't see why you would have a problem there. I completely understand, I don't publish under my real name either and it's no problem at all! You can also add "Contributors" so later if you decided to change your business name or pen name, you could always add it alongside the original author name (since you can't change that part.)
Hey ! Hi , Much informative. M also beginner to kdp . I am making log books /planners I Published Log book a month ago .i wanted to ask you that after PUBLISHING log book can i change the Interior( Manuscript) . Because i Feel that i wanted to add some more features on Manuscript. If i change now does amz kdp will punish ?KIndly advise
Hi, great question! Yes, you can change the interior even after it is published and live. They won't punish you for it, which is a convenient way to change spelling errors or edits. If you make many big changes, you may want to republish but if you are just updating the interior will a few new features, it will show as "Live, but reviewing changes" and they should be reviewed and approved faster than it took for them to approve your book the first time around.
Now I get it! I keep receiving messages that are delaying my books because of "author's name show errors" I've been using the word "Journal" in my pen name 😢😢😢😢
So glad this helped you! I couldn't figure it out for so long, either... because while I did have a keyword in my Pen Name, it definitely wasn't trying to keyword stuff.... and they have gotten extra sensitive about it! Have you been more successful changing out the word "journal"??
@@rebeccabolandstrategy success hasn't arrived yet! I just started 3 weeks ago. I want to create more and better...🙏 And when I feel I'm ready, I'll do the marketing thing 👍
Do you know…I am knew to KDP. I have published under two pen names. One is perfect, when author is clicked on, all my books by that pen name come up. The other pen brings up something random not including my pen name and also none of my books. I dont have many books out, so I am thinking of using a different name, but I dont want to make the same mistake.
I have this problem too, actually! I didn't do enough research before choosing my pen names so this happens to me more than I'd like. However, there are a couple of options you still have... of course, you can choose a new pen name to use in the future if you'd like... but the other options are 1) create a "series" so that your related books are all linked together and won't be affected by other similar author names or 2) create your author page, so that all of your books are linked there, and you can direct fans to that page instead of telling them to search by name
@@rebeccabolandstrategy Oh TY! I have to figure how to do that. :) Would it work to add my old name as a contributor on my new name (so it doesn't completely disappear from history)? I don't want to make it too difficult since I only have a couple books out, but I was wondering if the contributor field maybe might help in some way. (Also, I don't want to get in trouble!)
I do think that using the contributor name would be the best way to link them. You can't change the author name once published, but if you create a cohesive publisher name and add as a contributor it should link them all. Did you get a chance to explore creating an author page yet, as well?!
Thank you immensely for responding. Unfortunately shortly after my question, my account was terminated. Still not sure why. Have reached out twice with no response. Needless to say, it’s put a damper on my excitement. 😞
yes same one ad keyword in pen name its not safe because maybe that word is trademark word or someone use already in amazon that's is the problem don't use keywords in pen name and many people use book keywords in contributor name is method works same author but its also risk
That's not a problem at all! That is definitely the best option if you are comfortable with it. Some people do have personal or professional reasons for not wanting to use their own name, though. So if that is the case or if they are choosing a company sounding name, this is my tip!
When I started it was the opposite actually. Some of the largest accounts showed specific examples like using "Gardener's Journals" to create Garden-themed notebooks. But that's why RUclips is great - you can get plenty of ideas and many different opinions as you make your own path!
No keyword stuffing in the pen name. Pen name is useful for privacy reasons. Whether you want a company sounding name or person’s name, either is fine. Though I wouldn’t use AI to draw a picture of a fictional person plus fake life story for a fake biography. That is just too insincere to me. Just use a company name with company bio if you want to write a bio. Your customers will feel cheated if they think the writer is say a doctor when “he” doesn’t even exist.
Agreed! I noticed when I started publishing that the screening for "keyword stuffing" had gotten even more intense, though. So if I had a company name like "Jones's Journals" and tried to publish a "Daily Gratitude Journal," my books would get flagged even if the word was nowhere else!
You could have saved a lot of time if you'd just said 'Don't use keywords as your author name on KDP' and then explained why. First rule of journalism: who where what why etc goes in the FIRST PARAGRAPH.
Thanks for your feedback. I'm casually sharing information in my own way - no perfect journalism needed here! But I appreciate having that tool in my tool belt for future videos.
