  • CSX Train With No Air Conditioning But Has A Caboose! Listen To The Caboose Whistle! Filmed Under Bridge With Road Closed, Left Just In Time To Avoid Conflict. Norfolk Southern train on CSX tracks and we see the local switching train with platform caboose 3 times. These trains are in Hamilton, Ohio on the ex Baltimore And Ohio Railroad Toledo Sub. CSX does directional running with Norfolk Southern so you will see NS and CSX trains.
The first train is a local switcher with a caboose used as a shoving platform. The whistle is pretty cool. Notice both locomotives are GP40s and the crew has the door open since there is no air conditioning.
Next I go to a new spot for me. This is an area under a bridge. Homeless people stay here which I discovered. I filmed a couple of trains going under the bridge. There was a nearby road closure due to maintenance and cars were going under the bridge to make a short cut. However, they discovered that there was a big ditch to cross and all but one truck turned around and went the way they came. The 4 wheel truck made it through. I filmed the same train with the caboose and I filmed a CSX manifest that had only one locomotive pulling it. We also see a closeup of the rail with some old dates on it. Right after I filmed the rail I was leaving and a homeless guy showed up. He accused me of following him. I told him I was not following him and he acted like he was going to attack me. I decided to move along since I wasn't getting good vibes from him. He was a little bit negative. Take notes not to film under this bridge.
Then I went to an awesome railroad crossing in town next to the abandoned paper mills. The local switcher train with the caboose passed me again. Apparently they picked up some cars when they stopped near the bridge. I don't know where the cars came from because I never saw any on the sidings. They must have gone a long way to get them after they cut the locomotives off the train.
We also got a Norfolk Southern intermodal train and a CSX intermodal train. I'm glad to see the caboose because a few of them that I have filmed are now gone. There are not many left in the Cincinnati and Hamilton areas.
Filmed Thursday, June 1, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

    Hey JawTooth!
    Love your videos!
Wanted to let you know the Illinois Railway Museum is a place you need to get to. You will love it.
On next Saturday July 1st the museum will be running 70 (yes, 70) trolley and electric interurbans in celebration of the museum’s 70 year anniversary! Could be an epic video.

All the trains kept moving probably since that was the longest daylight hours of the year. Definitely got a kick out of the local with some back-and-forth and change out the cars. As for the little one Loki one can almost hear Brandy and Chessie say "Son. Ah say Son. It's too hot to be playing and no biting remember you're still low seniority"

That's the South Hamilton overpass, where the ditch is that is where the former South Hamilton Crossing was. Maybe next time film on top of the bridge too. Looking to the south on the right that was the former Pit Yard, and looking north on the right side of the tracks just past the billboard was the old site of the engine house, turntable, and coaling tower.

Nice video of train action in the Hamilton, Ohio area on 1 June 2023, Jaw Tooth! That bridge looks like it could be a wonderful place to make videos. During the summer months it would provide some shade while you were watching a train go past or waiting for the next train. However, you do not need the hassle of someone bothering you. I noticed that when you were at the former paper plants in Hamilton, Ohio that you were on the opposite side of the street that you usually view the trains at that location.

The Milwaukee Road had a fleet of home built transfer crummies but no bay windows or roof overhangs. The first ones were built on 36' boxcar frames and looked all out of proportion for the size of the little shack on them. Later ones had purpose built 20' frames. Every scoot and patrol had them. Excellent video with great commentary, enjoyed it much. Thanks man!

Axle count on well cars is useless to determine how many cars in a train. The articulated ones come in groups of 3 and 5 units. A single unit has the same number of axles as a standard car, but the 3 unit cars have only 8 axles whilst the 5 units have 12 rather than 20.

I have always believed that it is much safer for trainman to be on a caboose with you have to pack up instead of hanging off on a freight car because you might get hit at a crossing and I saw that happen. Luckily the guy was not hurt you bad but he was knocked off the car holding onto the ladder 🪜. Safety first. My train Uncle used to say that the rule book was written in blood. Hopefully to keep other people's blood from being spilled. Trains and train yards are dangerous things. They need to be respected as well as feared because they can kill you in the blink of an eye.
