Im a 47 year old insurance guy with a wife and 2 kids that are almost finished university. I have been waiting all my life to live a more simple existence. As soon as the kids are done school we are heading north. You are very lucky to have been able to do what you have done. Very cool.

It was good to see your family helping with the boiling process. I'm 74 years old and I do all the outside work and my wife does the finishing and bottling. I currently have 100 gallons of sap boiling down (4/5/19). I get about20 to 25 gallons of sap a day and have 37 taps. Thanks for your hard work for producing the videos.
I couldn't envy anyone more than you atm Sir! My father just passed away a few days ago and since then I have been wishing that I had something like this to get the heck away from life for a bit... Thanks for sharing my fellow Canadian. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.

This is the life. Great family, superb natural setting, good food, a warm cabin, and a lovely dog, too. It warms my heart to see that some people are still able to live this lifestyle, away from all the rat race and insanity. Best of luck and please keep the wonderful videos coming.

Beautiful. This video marks a peek at things to come. It is more than just added people in the frame... the cinematic execution that happens when your wife is shooting you is different. Beyond you setting up a camera and filming your activity... we are now treated to little moments that would have never made it in the edit before. You leaning against the oven and smiling? Snippets like this that you would likely not have shot on your own are now going to be subtle inclusions when new eyes are behind the lens. It is beautiful and wonderful. While It is a softening of the rugged solitary existence and documenting that has been the staple of this channel, it is not a departure of the core bedrock mission and feel of what and who you are. It is growth.
Thanks Dave. You're right about the extra footage, I find it more interesting too, especially when I'm editing and see theses clips that I didn't know where being filmed.
I love the way Shawn taps his toes on the door step before he enters his home.....he does in every video. Knocking off all the dust and dirt from his shoes.....
And here I thought the Alaskan Bush People show was exciting, I just subscribed to your channel I'm at rehab from traumatic brain injury,large mass in my head turns out was a tumor that was near the memory part of the brain.

First and foremost I’d like to say I’ve watched your videos from the beginning and appreciate the quality of your content and the work you put into every video. I have a story very similar to yours, I worked for one of the largest companies in the world for many years and got caught in a merger and buyout of that company and subsequently opened my own business 9 months before the recession hit in 08 and faced very similar issues as you talked about. I haven’t made it to off grid yet but did severely down size to a condo out in the middle of no where by a lake and nothing but wilderness. I hate that it took me that many years to realize that a wealthy man comes in many forms depending on each individual interpretation. It’s great to see a wholesome channel like yours in today’s world, so keep up the great work. 👍

I'm happy for this man and his wife to have beautiful, happy children who are more than likely proud of their parents for the life they lead and their accomplishment. I am conflicted watching the interactions from these parents and their daughter, I'm happy for them but pissed and jealous at the same time, jealous that they show us the actual dream of a happy family who have worked hard to get to where they are and pissed that I couldn't have this in my own family (mostly because they're all dead) but this is what ''THE DREAM'' looks like. These videos are truly beautiful and awe inspiring. I have watched you from the beginning and you have made a tremendous amount of progress at your camp. I have gone through similar life experiences as but, unfortunately am still grinding it out in the big city of Chicago. I have had the pleasure of camping and fishing in the Ontario wilderness and have never felt so at peace and one with nature. I find your videos bring me to that oasis of peace that I too experienced in the remote wilderness. Keep up the great work. As a carpenter ( I re-invented myself from a corporate guy as well) I appreciate your craftsmanship, as a video production major in college I appreciate your cinematography, as a fairly accomplished home chef, I appreciate your cooking skills, as a loving husband and father I appreciate your beautiful family, as a human I appreciate your endless generosity, you are quite inspirational.
