Winter is coming, and I'm preparing for it by finishing the ridge of the roof on the log cabin, processing firewood, collecting and storing building materials for the off grid sauna and log cabin and harvesting game. Cali the golden retriever loves this time of year too - cool weather and countless squirrels and chipmunks to chase.

I had a yellow lab for 14 years. Tore me up when I lost him. He was like Cali, went everywhere with me and no matter what I was doing he was there. I would talk to him like a human and I think he understood everything I said. It has been 10 years and I still miss that dog. Best friend I ever had.
I can relate.. I lost my Golden Male 2 yrs ago , he was 9 .. He will be my last dog
No matter the dog lab or chiwawa they are all giving unconditional love to their human...so heart breaking to let them go..

I don't mind watching you doing your chores around the cabin. You don't have to shut your video down just because you aren't in front of the camera all of the time. Just looking at the beautiful fall colors is enough for me.
My god Shawn, I am suscriber since you was a 30k youtube channel and you start to build your main cabin, and now 1M!! This is my favourite channel to relax myself, dreaming I am there with you. You seem like a nice person, thats other reason.

Your beautiful dog is so smart and she looks for attention and you give her a lot of love she is one good family member. I never get tired watching you work.
Wow! I'm an older geezer now, but 60 years ago, I lived in a cabin in the woods of Maine. No anything for comfort, miles from anywhere. A bath meant chopping a hole in the ice of the lake. Trapped, fished & hunted for food. It was pretty tough at times, but I never felt better in my life. Winter mornings sometimes greeted me with -35 below. Inside. I don't regret it all. I think it strengthened me for the real world I eventually faced. So this vid brings back fond memories. Thanks.

2:35 Using a stick to hold the wood while chopping. I use my finger...or at least I used to, but I accidentally chopped it off. Now I use a stick...I go through lots of sticks.

You're a hard working man James!! Sustainability is definitely not convenience! You have to work for it. I can imagine how life was exactly this way in the 1600's, when the first colonial settlers arrived to north America. No Walmarts, Home Depots, Supermarkets. To eat, we all must work from the sweat of our brow! I'm sure your viewers see how it is to get up at the crack of dawn, prepare everything, hike up a mountain, to film the fog and sun light coming over the horizon. Then trudge your way back to start another sweaty day, splitting wood, hammering nails, do repair work by replacing rotted out wood, preparing meals, and being ambidextrous enough to even play throw-fetch with the dog throughout the day. People just don't understand what it takes to be successful in life. Awesome work as always brother! Blessings and Peace!

I'm downsizing everything. I live on an Irish hillside and from the beginning and I've grown quite fond of you. Cali, unfortunately, outshines you in every way but she's lucky to have you as a Dad. With winter in Ireland already here I do hope you don't suffer like last year. I mean no mean intent but in my opinion, we are blessed by other powers to care for these celestial creatures. For 30 odd years, they've been the best company I've kept and let me say, as a youngster, I was a wild one!! No child's energy should be contained or restrained as problems follow. I savour your uploads on a weekly basis. Nature has blessed you, your surroundings and you've earned it all. My k9's say they'd love to meet Cali! She's a rare beauty. TYFS. Unique individual SJ!

Winter’s great when you live with it and don’t try to fight it.
Fall is the best! It’s a time of bounty. You harvest game and crops whilst enjoying the most comfortable climes. The lighting and sounds and aromas just add to the experience.

Im fighting against the climate crisis with school and activism work everyday, but eventually I'm just going to run away to the forest like this and be as ecologically and self-sustainable as possible..

Cali is like "The Lodie Hoser". I had Golden Lab who passed away 15yrs ago and I miss her. Her name was Heidi but eventually it morphed into "The Lodie Hoser".
