The AV Famicom is actually better than the top loading nes by default because the AV Famicom has composite output, and the top loading nes only has coax output. I just have an original Famicom with coaxial output because they are less expensive, but I want to get an AV Famicom at some point. It's 60 pins for the Famicom vs. 72 pins for the Nes because of the weird and stupid way the system was redesigned for the crashed American market at the time. Yes, japanese retro consoles are better, in my opinion, because with the Famicom and Super Famicom, the consoles look better.
One main point you didn’t mention was that games with enhanced audio (Castlevania 3, Lagrange Point,etc) won’t play the enhanced audio on the regular NES. Yes, Japanese systems are in the main superior.
