Mexborough Old Tunnel

Old tunnel on Mexborough canal side. Not sure exactly where it leads, but I think it comes out near Rowms Lane in Swinton - although I don't think it's accessible from that direction. It's not a very long tunnel really, I should have gone through to see...

this tunnel runs parallel with rowms lane and was used to take the horses that towed the barges .from the mexborough side to the swinton side as there is no footpath under the bridge

Have you been through tunnel that goes under railway between mexborough and denaby, near where power station used to be. We used to go down there a lot as kids.

only one on that stretch is the station tunnel that's blocked off

I've walked past that so many times and wanted to have a walk through, but I never have, there always seems to be shady characters hanging around there.

yeah its just a dead end but we climed up on to the old railway bridge and you can walk over the road but its close to the main line so have to keep ya head down but up there ther is a old sinlebox i have a pic of it i will have to0 post it on here, the box is up the line to the right next to the big stelrad building not much left of it tho
