  • Today we are showing you how to make natural, cold process salt bar soaps scented with Lavender and Lemon essential oils and naturally coloured a pale purple using Purple Brazilian clay.
This recipe is an intermediate level project as salt bar soaps can throw up some challenges that you don't get with regular soaps (overheating and hardening too fast to name just a couple). If you are new to soap making, we recommend you get a few batches of regular soap under your belt before attempting this recipe!
That said, the actual ingredients used in this soap also make it quite an easy recipe once you get the hang of how the batter will react to the coconut oil and salt. This is because it has just two base oils, which is a heck of a lot easier to weigh out then the six different oils that we include in our regular soaps!
In this video we talk you through the ingredients used and why we use them and then explain and show you how to create the salt bars. We cover everything from prepping your ingredients right through to cutting the bars and we even show a "lather test" on the finished bars to show you the gorgeous, creamy lather that they create.
In order to create these beautiful salt bars at home, you will need a few key ingredients. The ingredients are listed both in the video itself and I will also paste them here for you. Please note that the coconut oil is essential when making a salt bar and cannot be substituted (it is the only oil that will still lather nicely in the presence of such a high amount of sea salt). The Argan oil can be substituted for another oil of your choice but if doing this, do run your new recipe through a soap calculator as the required lye amount may change slightly.
Here is the recipe that we created and feature in this video:
    Sodium Hydroxide 128g
    Water 256g
    Coconut oil 810g
    Argan Oil 90g
Fine Sea Salt (without added anti-caking ingredients) 450g
    Purple Brazilian Clay 25g
    Lemon (Distilled) Essential Oil 15g
    Lavender Essential Oil 15g
    Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil 15g
    Heather Flowers (Optional) 4g

Never heard of a soap bar, but so glad you showed me. Love your channel! Found you a few months ago and I like how you present your videos. Watched the art faire at the castle the other day and loved, loved, loved that. Such a beautiful setting - wish our events were in such pretty surroundings - ( I'm in the U.S ) You and your friend are fun to watch too. You're generous with your knowledge and you make lovely soap. And that blouse is pretty too! Hope y'all have an enjoyable and profitable year and look forward to watching all your videos ( I'm not a soapmaker but I like to watch ).

Hello sweetheart, lovely to see you again. Learnt so much from your past videos and I still am working my way through all your. Ideos and creative Ideas, and trying some of the recipes. You helped me with my first salt bar and also the calendula soap. Both were awesome. Great to hear your business is busy, and you have plenty of projects to work towards. I may see you at. Christmas - Winchester is a beautiful city to visit. The fact that you are British, living in England and close to home, London, is an even greater gift - and easy access to your products. Keep it up, and await your new videos as and when you have time.
