I feel pretty lucky, I never got ‘advice’ from anyone during any of my pregnancies. I think being a tall, tattooed, outspoken, punk rocker, helped scare people into shutting up 😂 I will say this, as my pregnancies were all so different: one late, one early; one during my 20’s, one during my 40’s; one formula fed, one breastfed; one boy, one girl; etc. anything anyone tells you is most likely bullshit. Listen to your Dr, listen to your gut & remember: you can’t spoil a baby so hug that little bean all you want. They really do grow up too fast.

Sister in law sent me a card saying, don't get too excited. 25% of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage.
I was pregnant with the first grandchild and am 7 years younger than my SIL. My kid is now 28, married and doing well

I was told not to take my nausea meds because they might affect the baby by people who also thought smoking and drinking while pregnant was okay. This was the family that also thought my mom did not know what she was talking about with babies because she was a doctor.

In their generation (1950s-1960s), Thalidomide was given to pregnant women to treat morning sickness. Thalidomide caused many babies to be born missing arms, hands, legs, and/or feet. I'm sure there's better meds these days though!

Not exactly pregnancy advise, but at least pregnancy adjacent. I'm a childfree woman in her thirties who does not what to have children ever. Whenever this comes up in conversation (particularly with anyone older than me) I hear this lovely gem:
"Oh, you'll change your mind someday."
They always have this smile like they know better than me. Um, no. No, I will not change my mind. In fact, I was elated that I didn't have to take care of children when the pandemic came. I love being able to focus on going back to school and getting my master's without having to chase toddlers around and wash them and get them to school. And by the way, the idea of being pregnant makes it to the top of my list of Biggest Fears. I never, never, never want to do it.

Some good advice that I didn’t get but someone gave my husband. He was told that he should get me a pregnancy pillow so I could sleep better. Best advice ever I still use now even after I gave birth

I remember reading in Genises that women were cursed to have labor pains after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. I'm not sure if having babies would be different had Adam and Eve didn't eat of the fruit.

Im 5'5. Got pregnant with first baby when I weighted 135lb, second baby, I was 220lb. Guess when I felt both babies start kicking? At 17 weeks. Fat doesn't affect it. Know a mama who was pregnant 4 times, and she's on the larger side, started feeling her babies kick at 7 weeks. Apparently has a super sensitive uterus, which is rare but not unheard of. So yeah. Weight and fat doesn't affect that.

That I shouldn't have had a child in high school. I've never been pregnant, I just have a baby face and I work at an elementary school. This "advice" was from a "Karent" (as I like to call them) when I pulled into work one day.

Pregnant girl at my job was told by her sister, "If you still smoke, the baby will come out smaller, and it won't hurt as much." (Told by the dad, the baby was normal size, so she still had to go into labor).

I only had one kid, and he was 10 lb 6 oz...I think I had less pain overall because, as my midwife observed, "wow, he came out quick, must've been all that weight behind him!" And it was the relatively short labor where I didn't have to suffer contractions "all day" or be starved all day getting weaker and crankier due to hunger. I had a light breakfast, labored + delivered, then had lunch.

So the whole idea behind cabbage for boobs is because cabbage actually has some sort of something in it that decreases inflammation. It can work for mastitis, as well as inflammation in other areas like knees. Honey has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties as well so in my culture we would put honey on a cabbage leaf and put it on our breast if we would get mastitis. It actually works. But don't freeze it cuz then it does turn to mush.

I don’t have children are not planning on it. I am 24 just and I want a hysterectomy. I was more premature like 3 pounds I think and my nieces and nephew were born without skin. They are so premature and I can’t tell you how many especially women are like no you will want a child. No, you will have a child hate people don’t think of adoption like if I really want a child that I’ll just adopt and my grandmother supposed you you don’t need the surgery unnecessary you WILL WANT A CHILD . Even though I’m also having complications in a bleeding for months at a time like a period she assumed I had an abortion she’s like well. She must have an abortion . When I’ve never been pregnant, unlike her with her having unprotected sex and just gave her children I wrap it up. Grandma .
