Is mayor Lucas prepared to support the potential flood of children in our schools who don't speak English? I teach English as a second language in a small district in KC. it takes a tremendous time and effort to support these kids in schools.
$1 million ain't gonna cut it.

Where’s the money going to come from? Where did it already come from?
Public money is for public works, not any one group or groups of people.
There are so many homeless and graduates who need jobs but are trying to get proper wages. This is hurting us.
Why not get the people in the community already who are doing nothing trained for the work needed.
Didn't Lucas just push building a new Royals stadium in KC to provide more jobs for KC. Now he's saying there's a labor shortage in KC? His stance on the two issues seem conflicting, but it wouldn't be a first for him.

I do not understand what the controversy is. During times of COVID, the only ones who continued working and thus kept the economy alive in KC were the immigrants legal or otherwise. He welcomes people who wants to WORK!!! since so many citizens prefer to receive foods stamps and subsidies instead of WORKING abusing the system, he has no other choice that bringing foreigners to do the dirty jobs that would allow KC to grow, he can't count on American citizens for this goal!!
Now, many of the immigrants want to come to be taken care of by the government as they are used to in countries like Cuba or Venezuela. If he gives any funds from American taxpayers to immigrant workers, he MUST demand that is on a temporary bases only and the immigrants must demonstrate desire to work and even repay these funds as a demonstration of gratitude to the taxpayers of this country otherwise they will be sent back to their country !!!! this not the Major's money after all!!
