Number five is 100% true no late payments on any accounts not just Navy Federal. Most creditors will frown if they see late payments. So don't be late. Remember your bill whether it's your credit card electricity cell phone is not due on the due date it's due when you receive it. The due date is just the last day you can pay it without being considered late. I guarantee if you start paying your bills as soon as you receive them you'll never have a late payment
Thanks, @sinned96, for this tip and advice. So true. 🤓👌 On time payments also comprise quite a large percentage of a credit score on the personal credit profile and can affect scores significantly. Thanks for sharing and appreciate you chiming in.🤩👌
Number four. It's called the 91/3 rule. 91 days and three full statements before you apply for your 2nd or 3rd credit card. One day early you'll be denied. Better to Be on the safe side give it 92, 93 days. 91/3 also applies to your first credit limit increase on your credit card. Any other credit limit increases on that particular card you have to wait 181 days or 6 months.
Another great insight shared. This is so true, @sinned96. This is especially true for new NFCU members who are not aware of how the NFCU timelines are. The 181 days or 6 months after the first CLI is also relevant to know. I might share a video just for this particular info as I did get quite a few questions about this. Let's see as far as number two. I would say thousands of people in our group of 107,000 people have applied for a credit card on the same phone call they used when they joined. And received High limits. It's all based on your credit profile not your relationship with Navy Federal. A relationship may help you if have a weak credit profile.
@@mistermister8998 congratulations!🎈🎉🍾 you’re one if those exceptions 😆 but it does happen. It only shows how strong your personal credit profile is.🤓👌
Number three. The pre qualification tool is highly inaccurate. Many people in our group have only been pre-qualified for the secured card went ahead and took the chance and got the unsecured card and again with a high limit. And quite a few people even after they got an unsecured card with Navy Federal they try the pre-qualification again and are only pre-qualified for the secured card. We always suggest go for the unsecured card first then if you get denied either wait for denial letter fix those reasons you were denied and try again. Or you could just go ahead and go for the secured card but you still can be denied for the secured card also
Hello Milt, @Milt Chamberlain, true. When you do decide you want to get a high limit credit card with NFCU and you feel you’re ready, doing the prequalification saves you a hard pull. Then of course, it will just be a matter of deciding if a high limit credit card that can boost your credit profile later, or leverage it dor an investment, etc., is worth the hard pull.🤓👌 Thanks for checking out the video!
It sure is inaccurate! Before I even started repairing my credit the pre qualification tool told me that I qualified for EVERY credit card they offered when in fact I was not qualified for either of them. I’ve since graduated and now have 2 cards with them. But yeah prequalifying is a hit or miss!
@@missymarbury thank you, i appreciate your input. 🤓👌 In general, really, i will always use the prequal tool before I would do anything with NFCU. It’s there for a reason.😁 Congratulations on your journey! You worked it and now you are on your way!🤩👍 Have a blessed day ahead!
Making a video during a hurricane! And, I thought 21 years of military service was tough. In order to increase my 1 year relationship with NFCU, I transferred 4 government monthly deposits from USAA to NFCU. USAA had inferior products, lower interest rates, and worse customer service.
Hello, @Pura Vida, 🤣🤣🤣 thank you! And thank you for your service as well, sir! That is a very smart move. And you will see the difference. My brother in law who sponsored me into NFCU was with USAA 35 years. He did not have a NFCU account until he did a joint account with me to get me into Navy Federal. Because he thought that was the way to grant me my request to be sponsored into NFCU 🤣 He benefitted from the profile I built with NFCU. He did no activity on that account. When I applied for fpr the Cash Rewards, I also told him to apply. His scores were not great. Mid 600s. Got approved for 25K first try. So now, he does two direct deposits as well. 😁 When I applied for the Flagship, i got 25 and he got 10k or 15k i think. He’s happy and daid he never had limits that high with USAA. Thanks for sharing this, I can relate. Appreciate you for tuning in!🤩👌
Hello Mike, @mikesanders3752, good question. 🤓👌 It seems that the 91/3 rule is more for the personal credit cards. With my experience with the Gobiz business credit card, it did not seem to matter. I was approved for the Gobiz, not even a month or so right after I got approved for the cash rewards credit card. So, it seems like the 91/3 did not matter or did not relate to the business side of NFCU. Glad you asked this question as there have been a few who messaged me about this. 😄 Thank you and have a great day!🌞
Glad you're safe. Thanks for all the helpful videos. Question: I make deposits because my job only issues paper checks. Do you think this is bad or maybe a hindrance?
Hello Ms. TiJai, you are welcome! And yes, blessed to be safe. Thank you! No, it’s not a hindrance. Because it still shows your employers information. 😄 Paper checks deposits are Okay. Cash is Ok too, to a certain amount that they won’t think it’s money laundering.😄 Thanks again and have an amazing day!
Hello, @Belen Velez, congratulations on your membership and kudos to your military families as well. ❤️ You are in a good spot with NFCU. NFCU was formed because of military families like yours. Thanks for sharing this with us!👌🤩
I dont know about this relationship building thing, if u lots of money in ur accounts and have a good credit profile I cant see how that wud effect getting loans from them period.
@Ticonderoga12, sure you can, with NFCU. 👍🤓 How much you can avail though, will be limited. And you can still get denied, for some products, if you haven’t made an effort building a relationship, just like with any other bank. Not just NFCU. Navy Federal is unique, and they have their own internal credit score. You can have a great personal credit profile, but you can have a low nfcu internal credit score (they score from 100-450). The internal credit score include your banking relationship with them. Savvy NFCU members know this, and know the ways to build up this internal credit score. Relationship building with NFCU is also especially helpful for those who are rebuilding credit, students building credit and credit beginners. On the other hand, if you have lots of money, then you won’t really need to ask for their credit card or ask for loans from NFCU anyway, so building a relationship with NFCU is not necessary in these circumstances. Thanks for sharing your perspective.🤓🤩
Hi. Personal experience. Did secured card graduated to unsecured. I used the card on a rental car for the accident protection. I ended up having the car for a while and the company was supposed to use the card so funds I put aside to rent the car but they put it all in my NFCU unsecured card. This put my credit balance like 500$ over my credit limit. It literally happened on the day they report so it reported for a bill cycle. How do I recover? I feel like unless the credit limit is increased, NFCU will see I have a balance greater than my limit and scorn me forever 😿. How do I get my internal score btw 🐸 Thanks 🙏
Hahahah @GrouchoSplinter, I appreciate your openness and I can see why you went over the limit. Just make sure you pay that off as quick as feasible. Your score will suffer a bit during the time that your utilization is high. If you have lower likot credit cards, pay that off to $0 so it can help your score. Once you have lowered your utilization, it brings your score back up. You can only get your internal score when you applied for a new credit card. It will come with the paperwork you receive with a new credit card. And that score is for that application only. You can find your internal score on the back of page 1. NFCU will provide that if you have a high interest rate. If you got a low interest rate, you will not see your internal credit score there. But you can Emessage NFCU and ask for it. 🤓👌 Hope this helps!🤩👌
Not yet a member but have plans to do so through the “roomate” option of those that served. One way of getting a membership legitimately with Navy Fed.
Hello John! @John Avecilla, yes, that definitely works.👌🤓 All the best to you and do share your NFCU journey once you are a member, okay? And anything you also want to share as you go along.🤩👌
Will it look bad if you hit the pre-qualify a lot for the credit cards? I don't mean multiple times a day, just a few times a week. I know it's a soft pull and not a hard one, so I figured it'd be safe and no harm would come to your credit if you do it many times. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
Hello, @munky826, you’ll be fine, just keep it reasonable like maybe 3 x a week to see if you finally got a prequal. I have known of members who did this. 🤓👍 They did not qualify the first two tries and then tried again and got prequalified fpr a credit card, unsecured. 😁 Good question! Have a good evening to you!

You have the platform to let people know that in some cases it can take 1 to 3 days for money to transfer from your bank to Navy Federal Credit Union. I had to find that out the hard way. Also when New to NfCU you can not make deposits to your account for 30 days No one mentions that in there videos😢

I applied for an account online 7/10. I transferred $10 from Bank of America account to open. I closed saving account at BOA and received a certified check. Yesterday (7/14) I took the check to a NFCU location and deposited it in my new account (4 days after opening - I would have done sooner but I was at a conference). I did not have to wait 30 days.
This is Misinformation, I signed up for my account and that exact day I went to the branch and picked up my debit card and deposited a large sum of cash from my Wells Fargo, then I transferred the rest and that took 2 business days.
Hi, I'm really learning a lot watching your videos. I've been NFCU member since early April. I immediately started direct deposit. I have a small pledge loan that I paid 90% of right away and certificate. I want to apply for a car loan in a few months but wanted to ask if it's a bad idea to apply for a n rewards card now? I got pre-approved, however I may not be approved for the actual card. I need a car loan more than a credit card. Suggestions please?
Hello Karla! Congratulations on you getting started with building your profile. 👌😄 you are on the right track. Did you try to do a prequal on the NFCU cards and did you see which credit cards you qualified for? If you are planning to buy a car in a few months, better work at boosting your personal credit profile as well by starting with a credit card. I would still go ahead and see if you can get a credit card because you can have an additional account, that if you pay regularly on auto pay and with low utilization, you can still have a few months to boost your credit. By the time you buy a car, at least you have a bit more tradeline reporting on time payments and low utilization which can boost your credit some. With NFCU, they are very lenient with auto loans as they understand its a necessity. They have manual underworld for that which will look at evey aspect of your credit profile both your personal credit, income, number if accounts and NFCU products you use, and internal credit score. Just something to think about, okay? Take carr and keep me posted!🤩👍
Hi opened a Navy Federal account in Nov and my 1st direct deposit when on DECEMBER . I MISSED UP LISTENING TO THE WRONG PERSON. & DID AN PERSONAL LOAN APPPLICATION AND GOT DENIED , SO NOW HAVE INQUIRIES ON FILE- HOW CAN WAIT TO TRY TO TRY FOR A CRIEDT CARD
@@nieshiawilliams1339 hello, Neishia! Sorry to hear about that. No worries, just continue to work on building your profile with NFCU. The direct deposit is a good start. Also consider doing a Pledged loan, as it builds both your personal credit profile and profile with NFCU as well. Just give it about three months while you are working on boosting your credit profile. Also consider opening up more accounts or products with NFCU. Then on the third month, do a prequalification for the credit cards and see what comes up. If you prequalified, go for the Cash Rewards first as that is most generous for a first card NFCU. The personal loan is something you can do once you have nore history with navy federal and they can see how you handle your credit cards. You can always try for a personal loan in the future. You still have a chance even if you got denied your first try.🤓🤩👌 Good luck on your journey as well and do let me know of your progress, ok?

@TebTengri, yes, if you are approved for an increase, you count and wait 6 months, after that before you can ask for a second credit limit increase. Make sure that you count 91 days or 100 days before you apply for an increase. Billing statements, even if you have 3, one may be a partial statement and can be a reason for denial. Thanks!🤓

Another good tip, @sinned96. 👌🤓this is so true!
Appreciate you sharing helpful info.👌🤓
I wanna do this but i absolutely hate wasting hard pulls
Hello Milt, @Milt Chamberlain, true.
When you do decide you want to get a high limit credit card with NFCU and you feel you’re ready, doing the prequalification saves you a hard pull.
Then of course, it will just be a matter of deciding if a high limit credit card that can boost your credit profile later, or leverage it dor an investment, etc., is worth the hard pull.🤓👌
Thanks for checking out the video!
In general, really, i will always use the prequal tool before I would do anything with NFCU. It’s there for a reason.😁
Congratulations on your journey! You worked it and now you are on your way!🤩👍

Because he thought that was the way to grant me my request to be sponsored into NFCU 🤣
He benefitted from the profile I built with NFCU. He did no activity on that account. When I applied for fpr the Cash Rewards, I also told him to apply. His scores were not great. Mid 600s. Got approved for 25K first try.
So now, he does two direct deposits as well. 😁
When I applied for the Flagship, i got 25 and he got 10k or 15k i think. He’s happy and daid he never had limits that high with USAA.
Thanks for sharing this, I can relate.

How does the 91/3 rule apply when using business / personal credit. For example applying for a business card and then a personal card.
Hello Mike, @mikesanders3752, good question. 🤓👌
It seems that the 91/3 rule is more for the personal credit cards.
Thank you and have a great day!🌞
Glad you're safe.
Paper checks deposits are Okay. Cash is Ok too, to a certain amount that they won’t think it’s money laundering.😄
Thanks again and have an amazing day!

Don’t apply or prequalify for a credit card upon opening. My friend was denied with a 667 credit score and only offered the secured card.
Hello, @carmenmich, thanks for sharing this friend’s experience with us.🤓
Have a great day ahead!
How do I get my internal score btw 🐸
Thanks 🙏
Hope this helps!🤩👌
Not yet a member but have plans to do so through the “roomate” option of those that served. One way of getting a membership legitimately with Navy Fed.
Hello John! @John Avecilla, yes, that definitely works.👌🤓
All the best to you and do share your NFCU journey once you are a member, okay? And anything you also want to share as you go along.🤩👌
Will it look bad if you hit the pre-qualify a lot for the credit cards? I don't mean multiple times a day, just a few times a week. I know it's a soft pull and not a hard one, so I figured it'd be safe and no harm would come to your credit if you do it many times. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
Hello, @munky826, you’ll be fine, just keep it reasonable like maybe 3 x a week to see if you finally got a prequal. I have known of members who did this. 🤓👍
They did not qualify the first two tries and then tried again and got prequalified fpr a credit card, unsecured. 😁
Good question!
Have a good evening to you!
@@motionzbiz5814 thanks so much for the reply 😃 I have the secure card, which I got last week, I have a very, very long way to go. The fact that you were approved fpr a secured credit card is a thumbs up from NFCU, that they are giving you a chance.
Manage that card very well. Lo utilization, on time payments. Put the minimum payment on auto pay, and do additional payments as well.
Just small transfers from your checking to that secured credit card on your app.

Thanks!🤩👌
That 91 day rule didn't work for me. They started me with $25k but I was denied a CLI after 91 days. But since then, they've given me 2 $2k increases without me asking so I'm at $29k now.
Also, I am in FL too but Ian missed my area
Hello, @SledgeIncTeam, that’s good Ian missed your area.🙏
Anyway, congratulations on your 25K, and 2 2K automatic CLIs. NFCU actually likes you!

You still have a chance even if you got denied your first try.🤓🤩👌
Good luck on your journey as well and do let me know of your progress, ok?

I haven’t heard anything like this at all. But since you talked to them and this is the case, interesting indeed.🤓
Does applying for an increase reset the 91 days or could you just wait the remainder of the 91
@TebTengri, yes, if you are approved for an increase, you count and wait 6 months, after that before you can ask for a second credit limit increase.
Make sure that you count 91 days or 100 days before you apply for an increase.
Billing statements, even if you have 3, one may be a partial statement and can be a reason for denial.
Thanks!🤓
