    Driver Knowledge Test Booked. Trucking is going to help me get my new technology services business off the ground. Every other job I could take is either boring or requires me 5 days a week mon-fri and a long commitment, becoming part of a collaborating team. That's not what I want. When I move from Sydney to Brisbane soon, HR driving opportunities should get me there and started also. Done a lot of driving, I love it. When I was 17 year young (in 1984) I was the Westfield troly boy driving the Leyland Diesel tractor with the 16 foot trailer around some of Sydney's shopping malls. You learn how to handle a long trailer and drive 10 hours a day in tight conditions. Never had a scratch and I enjoyed that job! After that, 30 years as a electronic security service technician, on the road. I know the road. Stick with what you know!

      John, Not too late, get that heavy ridged licence, most driving schools in one or two days to get licence.Get that years experience before going to MC. I know drivers in their sixty's, even one that was 72 still driving part time interstate. Job agencies a good place to start, if you are keen they will work you. If you are in a capital city Startrack express will provide on the job training.

    I'm finding it difficult moving from my HR job to an MC job. Most jobs have the old "experienced MC driver" in the job ad. I'm even willing to do FIFO if the coins right.
    Am I shooting for the stars, or should I really be looking at HC jobs first?

    • @australiantruckerrod1070
      @australiantruckerrod1070  Год назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately, most companies want experience drivers, right now freight is a bit quiet and there are more drivers to choose from, with companies closing. If you could find a company that has HC and MC and they would will you a go at HC It does not usually take long to move up.
      Don't give up if you want to drive MC someone will give you a go, might not be the job you want, but once you have the experience you can find what you really want to do.
      What I've heard from other drivers that have done FIFO, money not what it was a few years ago, but it depends on your own lifestyle if that suits you, can earn much the same on long distance can be 57 to 60 cents a k plus overnights.

      Hi Jason:There is work for owner drivers, all the large operators have contractors, Scotts, Linfox, Border express,Toll. But in saying that some have a age limit on trucks.Do you want to be a tow operator or have your own trailer, having your own trailer will earn you more money but may be one way, have to find your own return load.You can use loading agents, loads don't pay as much most of the time.Sydney and Melbourne are the better locations not much work out of Adelaide. As with most companies they have 30 days or more payments, you have to cover your costs and expenses for a least the first 2 months to cover yourself. A lot of thing to think about. But the answer to your question is yes.I would love to have my own truck but do not have the funds.

      Some of the larger companies 5 year old trucks. As long as the truck is tidy most don't care.If you are towing their trailers it's about the image, As for trailers some run 20 year old trailers. Remember older trucks require more maintenance.Get the newest truck you can. If you can lease a new truck 5 year warranty takes away some of the worries.

      Hi. Unfortunately, that is the problem in trucking. My stepson got in Australia post as a yard hand, and now he is lucky enough to be doing some driving. My only suggestion is to keep trying, ask family and friends if they know anyone hiring a driver. Also look for jobs that may have driving as part of the job, like party hire, removalist, laboring, it might not be the job you like but you just need to get some experience.

This is a good wage in Australia, the equivalent in another country maybe $1000 per week due to the difference in the cost of living.

      @@pinayladyoz8044 Hi. Have been driving for about 28 years. Yes, the wage is good, most companies pay a trip rate for long-distance jobs around 48 to 52 Cents per km plus a travel allowance of about $50 per night if you are away from home.
      The downside is, hard to get that first driving job after you get a licence as very few companies will provide training and want 2 years experience. as with most jobs how do you get experience if you can't get a job.
      Another thing is when you take any holiday leave you get a base rate and your take-home wage drops to about $880 per week and with 90% of companies if you don't work due to no work for that night even if you are full time you don't get paid.
      Another good paying job is traffic control can pay $40 per hour for day work to $60 per hour night work if you like to hold a
      sign and be out in all weather hot, cold, rain or shine.
