Thankyou, Great video of what to expect, my father was a harp and tarp driver back in the day, always went with him in his ERF as a yorung bloke,(1970"s), ( Eric Ronald Foden he told me lol), and loved it, watching your video brought back memories of a professional driver, onya mate
I still do sometimes, Saturday mornings heading south. Went through Goulburn on Monday morning. Just for a change. Went over Razorback on a detour one morning, due to a crash, can't show it, not a b' double route.
I'm just driving the roads, Speeding, tailgating, hogging the right-hand lane and trying to kill everyone. I drive an automatic truck on a dual highway, do not load or unload most of the time and just mainly do Sydney to Melbourne return, so I'm not a real truck driver, It's just a video game. Well some think so anyway. Have a great day 😎👍
I'm coming back to Aus to DRIVE. First getting my HR. Spent 2 years driving tractor / trailers, 10 years on the road as a technician, 10 years as a software programmer and now...... it's time to drive heavy equipment, it's in my blood!
would have liked to see you show the road edicate's left and right, left indicators for thank you. Flash hi beam when passing truck has cleared the front of your vehicle, but all in all well down. And just maybe truckies memorial at T/cutta. Do another there well worth watching.
i have been driving road train triples for the last 50 years of my life and have never used indicators to say thankyou and know one has ever done that for me!
I run the Hume & 99% of drivers give a flash of the indicators if you high beam them in.I’ve been trucking for 32 years & it has always been like this.
Nice video mate. I just got my HR license and started working with an interstate (for the most part) removalist company. I had my first run the other day which was just a short round trip from Woodburn near Bundaberg to Callopie and back which the boss tagged along with me. I have my 2nd run on the 29th, leaving Bundaberg for Nambour to load up then driving all the way to Adelaide then returning empty back to Woodburn. Mind you, with all this rain and flooding that's happening who knows if I'll still be able to go.
Hi. Removalist, That is hard work, not a job I would ever do, I moved 4 years ago, hope I have the money to pay guys like you next time. Nambour to Adelaide, what a great run, the Newell between Bogabilla and Moree looks closed at the moment, but could be open the time you go. If you go that way? or may have to go further out to Dalby/St. George. I loved the run from QLD to SA done it many times. The boss might want you to go via Sydney due to flooding or breakdowns. Either way will be a fun drive, Please let us know how you go.
Hey Rod, just came across this video and was great to see an insight into the trucking life. Going for my HC license this week and hoping to get my MC afterwards. Been driving metro buses for 4 years so I think it’s time for a change lol thanks for the vid
Hi Owen. Good luck with the licence. Our son got his HR licence last week. As you would know finding that first job without experience is the hard part. Have changed jobs since those early videos, still doing the Hume, but now going through to Sydney and not with Linfox. Have a great day.
Australian Trucker Rod oh that’s awesome. I recommend people to drive buses as their first HR job. Easy to get into and it’s all automatic. I’m from Adelaide. It’s all mostly HC/MC jobs. Hence the license upgrade. I can’t wait to try my first interstate trip. Would be interesting. Keep up the good work Rod!
Nice video. It’s good to know that trucking is the same down under as it is in the states. I did the same thing meeting a Chicago driver five nights a week. Have a good trip.
Hi Clyde. Australian & U.S trucking very similar in many ways, or should I say around the world. Have watched a lot of videos and we all complain about the same things. Have changed jobs since the early videos, away from home every second night, but works out ok. Have a great day. 👍
Thanks for the great video of the insight of a change-over HV Operator. I have question: I am trying to break into the transport industry having spent 37 + years in the ADF, however, though l am MC (unrestricted) qualified l haven't the requisite experience (1 - 2 years) that transport companies want. Many transport companies l have approached, say come back in 12-mths when l have experience. Well, how can l get experience if no one is willing to take me on? I trainable! Thirty-seven years in the ADF should suggest that! I want to work! Can suggest how l can make myself employable as a HV Operator? Thanks.
Hi. This is an issue that comes up a lot of times in all jobs, how do you get experience. Unfortunately, most companies do not provide training for new drives, possibly due to the cost of paying two drivers. My suggestion is to try and start with a transport company with a heavy ridged and move up. But again experience will be the problem. Also, check Linfox I think they still have a contract with the ADF, with your background skills this may help. Keep trying, my first driving job was a 5t van with zero experience, what helped was there was 20% of warehouse work involved which I had experience with. keep me informed how you go.
@@australiantruckerrod1070 Morning Rod, thank you for your honest appraisal of the situation. I have already applied quite a few HR driver positions at a number of different transport companies in and around Laverton and Yarraville hoping that one of them would be willing to taken on a rookie and train with a long-term view of training them up to MC level. I've also broached the topic with Linfox and they're looking for drivers with at least 1-2 yrs experience on type. I can understand their position, but, I thought that maybe as a major player in the industry that they would be keen to improve the driver standards across the board - by both training potential drivers and giving them some experience - before unleashing into the industry's HV driver pool; Hume are the same; and so are Ron Finemores.....they all want someone with 1-2 yrs experience. As a forklift driver at Avalon Airfield, I've loaded and unloaded quite a few Linfox singles and B-dbles. Anyway, I'II keep on applying until I get I can secure a HR Job. Thanks again.
Good vid. Lots of peole think trucking is all sun, speed, drinking and danger. Not so. An everyday/everynight job with ups and downs but important for all that.Well done. BTW I used to do the same thing in the UK
Hi Jon. Hey and don't forget a different partner in every town.😟 Trucking can be a tough job, but have had some good times. I would think in the UK trucking has changed like in Australia and not always in a good way.
Hi there Rod great video. Im from South Africa driving HR and HC. Here we call the big ones horse and trailer. I have 5 years experience here in South Afica driving all sorts off trucks. Do you think i will come right with a job opportunity like Warrnambool Victoria? I saw that they are looking for drivers. Thanks mate hope to hear from you soon. Stay safe.
Hi. Hope you are safe and healthy. Unfortunately it can be difficult to immigrate to Australia. And right now with covid it would be impossible due to international borders being closed. But when this is all over, the hard part would be getting a visa, truck driving is not considered a skill in Australia. Hi Daniyar. I have a video talking about Australian visas. Unfortunately truck driving is not considered a skill by the Australian government. If you are under 30 years old, you maybe able to come on a working holiday Visa. But can not use your international licence drive trucks. Sorry for the bad news. Sorry Thomas for the late reply. That is the hardest part trying to get a job driving. Ask family, friends, friends of friends. Let everyone you know you are looking for a driving job. Show you are keen, look at your other skills, maybe something you can tie into a driving job. David Hunn. Do paperwork then a 30 min break or 30min break then paperwork. Have a compliance supervisor at Linfox they check the gps they will let you know if you do it wrong. They do give you 2 min each side of the time but must still have the full break. One of our driver's got suspended for two weeks with min pay for not having the full break.
Have come across one in a older model of the FH but not the new one's, they had a trial but where not used. Most companies use GPS tracking to monitor there own trucks. And police and roads authorities can come in to a company any time and check records. Of cause these records can be deleted by the company.
Jose Cha jr . Hello Jose driving in Dubai must be difficult with the heat and sand storms. this job is easy 10 hour round trip. thank you for watching.
Can I ask a couple of questions, 1st when you get to Tarcutta, do you drop the trailers off? Or just change trucks and bring a new prime mover back to Melbourne? Do you know of any companies that give inexperienced drivers a chance to get some experience?
Hi kris. We started doing truck and trailer change then just trailers. Don't know of anyone right now. Agencies are a good place to start, universal recruitment, 1800 driver, they have quite a few c/over jobs. Have worked for universal, good to work for. Quite right now should pick up around end of August September.Apply for all c/over jobs you see. Alot of drives start to change jobs around Sept. Don't give up, someone will give you a go if you show you are keen. Good luck.
Australian Trucker Rod. Thanks mate. Abit of a personal question. When you do your Sydney stop overs. Do you get paid for the down time you’re there? Or just the kms you travel? I’m enjoying the Hume trips, picking places I have been. Keep them coming.
Hi Kris. Most companies will pay an overnight allowance. Between $20 to about $70 the nights you are away their is no set rate, up to the company. You have to get some overnight allowance to be adle to claim a meal allowance in your tax return, currently $99 for the nights you sleep away from home.
Australian Trucker Rod so do you own the prime mover or basically just fill a seat? If it’s just the seat, do you run the same truck no matter what your destination? Can I ask who you work for?
In this video I worked for Linfox. Had a different truck most nights. Now have a K200 2016 model working for Thorpe transport. Keep the same truck. Had this one for 1 year now
Hallo lm truck driver in africa writing from my truck cause still driving,i m planning to be in australia next year on a student visa then after i complet i can drivr for up 5 years while visiting the country.
Not much harder than a single trailer going forward, just wider turns and the back trailer tracks out further. Reverse is, turn in the direction you want the back trailer to go, small turns if possible and get out to look when you can't see the back trailer. Most importantly WHEN not if you get into a situation is take a breath, make a plan, except or ask for help if available and take your time. The hardest part of driving a b double for a few years is going back and driving a ridged.
@@australiantruckerrod1070 appreciate the insight mate 👍👍👍 really thinking about going for my MC license but the size of those trucks are definitely a bit daunting 😂

Hello Jose. It would be much easier to find job in Canada as they have work visa's for foreign workers. Challenger Motor Freight may be a place to start, they have a web site.
Are you on electronic logs or paper? End of 2017 we are suppose to be on e-logs unless your truck is 2001 or older in the U.S.A. I've been on e-logs for several years. I prefer them over paper. Easier and less paperwork.
Hunter 68 There has been a bit of a trend toward cabovers in Australia for a while, and essentially it is because the B-double length rules make cabovers a more flexible option. You do see a variety of both but cabovers are certainly more prominent. I am happy to drive either but naturally for country runs etc at night there is greater risk if you were to hit cattle or something like that. Which can happen.

Hi Ben. There are jods you have to sit for long periods, long distance trucking is one of them. Truck driving is not for everyone. You do a lot of free work, long hours, dealing with bad drivers, rough roads. But in saying that you meet some good poeple, make great friends and see some great places. It is one of those jobs someone has to do. Have a good day.
Hello: It will depend on the driving you would like to do, size of the truck, local or long distance. Local work is approximately $22 to $26 per hr. plus overtime pay if after 8 hrs. Long distance 42 to 50 cents per KM. maximizing your day you can drive 5000 km per week. You can earn $1!00 to $1800 net per week. up to you how hard you work and the job you have. But you can earn good hourly rates with other jobs, don't just drive to earn money, do it because you want to drive trucks. Hope this helps.
Hey Dave. Hopefully you will be doing some trucking videos. We need some good Aussie truckies to show what the industry is really all about. And the BS you have to go through.
@@australiantruckerrod1070 No I've done my time on the road. 38 years was enough and serious health issues pretty much keep my close to home and hospital now. Don't like the way things have gone in the industry and I don't think that the easy way is always the best way.

Hey rod with ya change over do ya just swap trucks ? or trailers ?
Hi John. In the early days with Linfox would change the truck and trailer. But then it changed to trailer only.
Is it hard learning to drive those B doubles?
Rod where are you mate..
Still driving, new video coming soon.
Wow!!!!!!!!
Were you driving a fully automated transmission prime mover?
Hume why Melbourne to Sydney. And have cruise control on right now.😎
My kind of run
There are quite a few jobs like that and they pay reasonably good.
Do truckies use SPEED to stay awake ?
I can't talk for all drivers, I personally don't know anyone the does.
This is very good!!!!!!!!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🕷🕷🕷🕷
Hello Mr rod ruskin yes very difficult here gcc as a truck trailler driver 12 hour duty sir can you help me looking jobs any distanation I'm related many years long distance driving Mr rod ruskin
Hello Jose. It would be much easier to find job in Canada as they have work visa's for foreign workers. Challenger Motor Freight may be a place to start, they have a web site.
They may have working visas but, bring your own lunch and paycheque.
Dude I know it's probably the camera but looks like your lights are off
Yes , must be the camera. But I do like to hide.
Are you on electronic logs or paper? End of 2017 we are suppose to be on e-logs unless your truck is 2001 or older in the U.S.A. I've been on e-logs for several years. I prefer them over paper. Easier and less paperwork.
Hello Johnson
Why so many cabovers in Australia
Hunter 68 There has been a bit of a trend toward cabovers in Australia for a while, and essentially it is because the B-double length rules make cabovers a more flexible option. You do see a variety of both but cabovers are certainly more prominent. I am happy to drive either but naturally for country runs etc at night there is greater risk if you were to hit cattle or something like that. Which can happen.
Jason Crawford Thanks for the reply. I drove one to get my license in years ago, a day cab single axle at that, I hadn’t been in one since.
im got my license looking for a job i
Good luck. Let me know when you score one. The first one is the hardest to find. But once you get the experience you can pick the good jobs.
How did ya go mate worth getting into it ?
Hello

@@BennarBergmann Hi Benny can you send a quick hello to my email the last one has disappeared. Austruckerrod@gmail.com.
Its horrible really horrible to sit there in a cabin on a road for hours...................Really i dont wanne change jobs i mean ure in australia and i am in the netherlands but stil for 200k a year i would not do that even i make half of that here...........................I dont like to drive big distances.......and certainly not with with a truck....
You have shown nothing mate, not evn your truck......
If i driver truck 14,15 hr every day ..how much i can earn in month?
Hello: It will depend on the driving you would like to do, size of the truck, local or long distance. Local work is approximately $22 to $26 per hr. plus overtime pay if after 8 hrs. Long distance 42 to 50 cents per KM. maximizing your day you can drive 5000 km per week. You can earn $1!00 to $1800 net per week. up to you how hard you work and the job you have. But you can earn good hourly rates with other jobs, don't just drive to earn money, do it because you want to drive trucks. Hope this helps.
Australian Trucker Rod thx if we have own truck for long drive .and pls make video on how can make truck driving licence and how can serach truck job?
Australia track driver prosage
Bengali spotted??? What are you doin here🤔🤣🤣🤣
Not a truck driver mate, You wouldn't know the first thing about it,
Don't waste your time watching my videos. There are better things to watch.
T@@australiantruckerrod1070 Yeah, I worked that out in the first 2 minutes.
But still did things a lot differently years ago and if I had to, still could probably do it again. Don't like the way things have gone in the industry and I don't think that the easy way is always the best way.
