I remember that the AUDI 4000S had very little self centering. When I looked it up, it has +1 degree of caster +/- 2, so anything between +3 and -1 is in spec.

Steve, Thank you for your videos and explanations of the alignment and corner balancing a race car. My wife and I have been racing our Porsche 914 for many years, have modified it extensively, but have I've never dove into alignment but trusted alignment to "the professionals". I followed your alignment videos, built my own string alignment and wheels stands, laser leveled them in my garage, borrowed weight scales from our local car club, and aligned and corner balanced both my 914 racer and my 968 street car. I found many misalignments items that the "professionals" didn't resolve or find on both cars. My race car now handles better than it has ever done and my 968 no longer pulls to the left and handles the curvy mountain roads of Colorado unlike it ever has. The fun is back!!! I have renewed confidence to fully align my own vehicles. Thankyou!!

Great video! The simple demonstrations helped me visualize concepts I previously only had a passing knowledge of. And the demonstrations of how things work together in real world situations were fascinating, Thank you!

Thanks for the great explanation! ❤ I have a question about the demonstration of negative caster at 5:51 . Since you were pushing it forward, shouldn’t it still be the positive caster angle? Isn’t it true that you need to pull the wheel forward (instead of pushing) to create a negative caster angle?

Thanks for the comments, at 5:51 we have negative caster ( draw the lines and you will see that the wheel is leading and thus becomes instable . Pull or push are not important here as Caster is a typical on the front wheels and in this case these are not the traction wheels ( rear drive).

Interesting, when the car is in reverse, the orientation changes to negative caster but those wheels are following the rear wheels that are now leading, in front. Thanks for the video, Steve.

Yes, because the caster is always in the direction of driving
