am only 17 minutes in and this is 2023, Rest in Paradise, Matty....as a boomer, i will always cherish FRIENDS. You were the light & backbone of this NYC sitcom. Your sarcasm reflected us New Yorkers. And we thank you.
I don't know why they said Matthew Perry is not an A movie star. How many A movie stars are around there? 8? Well, some can't even act by heart and make a connection with people! Matthew did excellent unforgettable movies with amazing acting, and not being Chandler all the time. And he did it despite his serious problems. He is an excellent actor. He is a A movie star, no matter what they keep telling us. Sometimes I think that it is not us people who underrate or overrate someone, but others...
@Silvi Lev It explains for itself. Matthew Perry was basically playing himself in Friends. You read all about it, as in the sense of humor and everything. With the other actors it is different, because they really had to play someone very different than their own. Jennifer Aniston wasn't a spoiled brat and neither was Matt a womanizing goofball as examples. Also, the other actors had bigger success outside of Friends. By that time in 2003, Jennifer had already her big break in Bruce Almighty, Courteney Cox had a big string of box office and television hits, David Schwimmer had his huge performance in Band of Brothers, Matt had many minor roles in successful box office hits such as Charlie's Angels and he got widespread acclaim for his role in season eight, while Lisa was the first actor on Friends to win an Emmy in 1998.
What does an A list entail?? In my mind, it entails that, whenever someone sees you, they recognize you. And almost EVERYONE would instantly recognize him. Even if they hadn't watched friends.
I come from 2021 and ppl love Friends still even got a special reunion and ppl in their mid 20's watch it all the time despite the fact they were baby's when it came out ❣️❣️❣️🥰☺️
Writers said once that Chandler and Monica's relationship extended the shows life. Those 2 were kinda cool and believable. But when they tried to do it again with Rachel and Joey that relationship was not believable! I think Rachel ended up slapping Joey every time made his move! That was a good choice because some relationships are better just friends.
Za Z I disagree. It’s just that...two health relationships wouldn’t really work I think. It’s important to have a more "complicated" type of couple and I do believe they were believable...there are a lot of relationships like Ross and Rachel’s. I actually like them a lot...especially because they broke up and grew up apart quite a lot before getting really together again, this couple showed and taught us something, and plus they had great chemistry...and that’s undeniable. ✊🏻
What do you mean Matthew Perry is not an A lister movie star? He made so many movies and they were all so good--both comedy and drama. the success that this show had during it's ten year run, is incredible. There's a lot of shows that lasted more than ten years but never had the same momentum as Friends.
23:23 Excellent points made by the narrator. Finding the balance is key to the success of any sitcom. When to be serious, when to be touching and when to be funny. There is no other better example first and foremost in the show than the break-up between Rachel & Ross in season three, where it was completely lost. The drama coming to overshadow the comedy and of course deconstructing both Rachel and Ross into these mopey and hapless characters.
smh people tend to confuse sexism for materialism in hollywood. if you're good looking n sought after, you will be more successful. aniston is by far the most successful since she's still considered beautiful today. David unfortunately has it rough, even though he's pretty damn good looking but not handsome or macho enough for hollywood standards =/ you only have to read those 50 most beautiful people in the world magazines to understand how shit people's tastes are. it's no wonder many actors switch to theater, you are judged by your talent not your star power or looks. I'm just ranting, cuz most of my favorite stars are victim to these shit practices, at the end of the day... blame society
@Rust Cohle Absolutely true and it explains the transition of Friends as well in the later seasons in comparison to the earlier ones. Friends began as a "comedic ensemble" just like in theater, the reason why David Schwimmer even said he joined the cast. The balance between being serious, touching and funny was right. Momentum was good as well as character development. Then, when popularity was fading due to numerous factors, including the on- and off-relationship of Ross and Rachel dragging on, the show got more about wearing fancy designer clothes and donning great hair. All for the effort to increase its ratings or keep it high as possible. The show had lost its depth and character-driven motive in comparison to the beginning. Of course in season eight the show found that magic again with Ross and Rachel's pregnancy. But ending up losing it once more in season nine and ten to favor "branding" over quality and character-driven plot. Overall, what you mention is the definite downside of Hollywood. With Jennifer Aniston as the best known example when you look at her relationship with Brad Pitt, how it was taking its toll on her on the inside and outside, and then of course the ensuing divorce that left her humiliated, angered and sad. Lisa Kudrow has definitely made the smartest decision as she seems to have the most stable life out of all the actors today.
watching friends again as adult, i realized aniston is the most talented one. Her performance is impeccable, she didnt have a weaker moment in 10 years. Its no coincidence she got the most roles out of them, she is the strongest actor.
