Anyone who doesn't play a stringed instrument would focus on watching and being impressed by her left hand ability, and no doubt it is great. But those of us who do play stringed Instruments realize that the true otherwordliness here is her alternate picking technique and effortless string skipping, which is unreal. Bravo to both your hands!
I've listened to Sierra for several years, and as a musician I can honestly say that she is a generational talent and so is her husband Justin Moses. .
It's interesting how similar the motions are to the spider chords used in modern metal. I'd be really curious to see how quickly she could learn to play high gain metal guitar.
I'm a songwriter and blues player, mostly, and among my peers, we all have a "blues face," or perhaps many (cue blues face #7!). Your "Bach face" is pure concentration, and means some very serious picking and fretting is goin' on. I enjoy all of your faces! Thanks for posting and please keep up the good work!!
I play this suite as well on classical guitar. Your playing is great and the gigue really lends itself to the mandolin. Well played. I think that Bach wrote this suite around the same time as the Chaconne in Dm (guessing) as that gigue has a lot of the feel of the scale passages in the Chaconne. Nice stuff !!
I love this piece. She does a superb job on this. Chris Thiele couldn't do any better! I'm also a mando player, but I would never record my shitty playing and put it up here next to hers! Lol!
Clearly with such amazing talent & such a wide repertoire including even Bach, she’ll always make a living and never go Baroque....thank you, tip your waitress...
These classical numbers had added a new dimension to your playing and (you'll not like me for this) overall skill level. Keep finding these things just for the practice.
After I heard Chris Thile, I thought I had heard it all. I usually try to stay away from the “ranking” thing, but I just want to say that Sierra and Thile certainly seem to have comparable abilities.
@@mahlonrhoades4509 I would certainly love to see and hear that. Since they do not tour together, I cannot analyze whether they would feel it would add enough value to their RUclips channels to be worth the effort that would go into learning it.
I used to console myself about my short fingers by telling myself that the petite Sierra Hull was a great mandolinist nonetheless. But even though generally petite, take a look at her long and agile pinkie finger!
Amazing...is that a mandolin or a guitar? I have been trying to play guitar for about 30 yrs but i am also a carpenter and carpal tunnel and abuse of my hands has hindered that...ive often thought that perhaps a very small body guitar or a mandolin might help.. seriously amazing stuff m'lady
That's a mandolin! i play both it and the guitar, as well as the ukulele, and it's mostly up to preference but a Ukulele or mandolin may work out better for you. They're also amazingly fun to play if you find what you like!
Wow. Just wow. Coming from a bluegrass tradition to bring this level of sophistication to a Bach violin showpiece is stunning. She plays this at about twice the speed that Avi Avital (specialist in classical mandolin repertoire - see ruclips.net/video/ea-zla-2VA8/видео.html) and incredibly cleanly. The fluidity of her playing reminds me of Hilary Hahn's interpretations of the Bach suites. I would love to see her perform one of the Vivaldi mandolin concerti with a major orchestra! I hope that she comes to Melbourne someday so I can see her perform in person.
So you over extend your thumb and use a fist to play with what looks like an angled pick slant thingy-I use the index/thumb only like George Shuffler/Clarence White technique flat to the strings. You do sound smoother though lol
I hate to say this ... Ya'll won't like me for it. But there is something about this young lady that is very baroque. And it don't need no fixin'! (And did I say that she's a cutie?)
Sierra's left hand fingers moving around sometimes makes me think of a huntsman spider's legs when the spider is moving fast. Their legs seem to move faster than the eye can see. ruclips.net/video/r011GRdai8Q/видео.html
Love what you do Sierra!! incidentally, August 6 is the great late Allan Holdsworth's birthday (the greatest musical improviser of all time). Would have been interesting to hear you play Holdsworth's composition Non brewed condimentin on which he played on a SynthAxe tuned in fifths !!! ruclips.net/video/1yTCQ1-GzIg/видео.html
@AlahuSnackbar what does that even mean? Do you play mandolin? I have for over 20 years, I feel like you're trolling because what you said is borderline meaningless. Please provide an example of "runaway harmonics" while someone is playing the mandolin

I'm so impressed by Sierra's flat picking accuracy.
YES! to this comment.. the picking technique is very difficult to be this good at..
Girl, I wish you would do an album of this stuff (Bach, Vivaldi, etc.)
I've listened to Sierra for several years, and as a musician I can honestly say that she is a generational talent and so is her husband Justin Moses. .
My left hand caught a cramp just from watching that. Such skill.
My hand cramps every time I try to make any chord shapes like that lol
It's interesting how similar the motions are to the spider chords used in modern metal. I'd be really curious to see how quickly she could learn to play high gain metal guitar.
I love these short little bursts of virtuosity. Fun and inspirational. Sierra is awesome, no doubt about it.
Master musician. One of the best things that can be said of a person in this life.
Came to this channel for the bluegrass, stayed for the Bach. Y'all, I think I'm in love.
You have taken your playing to the artistic level where the mandolin is purely a vehicle for pure music! Thanks for the Bach, more please!
one of the greatest musicians I've ever seen, sings well, plays well, always beautiful

O.M.G just beautiful!
So many beautiful notes to remember by heart! Sierra continues to amaze.
Like always, it's really a pleasure to listen to you and your musical sensibility
You're videos never fail to bring out the entire emotional spectrum in me. As a beginning player, thank you for the inspiration.
Stunning
You say Bach gave you a double chin. Pizza gave me mine. You are a wonderful and beautiful talent Sierra.
You always give me something to chuckle about at the end of your videos.
This is so lovely! Thank you for more Bach!
Love your Bach double chin😍 all the very best for your IBMA nominations, greetings from U K☘❤️💚
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
After years of following you you keep amazing me . Good job !!!
Clicked on it because Bach on a mandolin!? Checked out here channel and now I have an average guitar collection for sale.
You make it look so easy!
Bluegrass and Bach. Sierra is a cultural treasure.

Quelle belle manière de rendre hommage à ce génie de la grande musique 👍

Excellent.
Absolutely 🎻✨⚡Sparkling! So on the 🎯Stirring🌹sharing💖wonderful🎁always 😎whether a whole set 💥or short clip😁

Alternative picking for the win! Tune in closely for the vibrato. ;)

Incredible!!!
I luv this girl
Awsome! You have always from a kid had great tone in your right hand and smooth as silk.
so cuuuuuute !

Sierra can play anything. She is a marvel.
Fabulous~~
Wow. Qué manera de tocar. Yo hace algunos años empecé a estudiar mandolina
@@jacintshort1910 :o
Al menos el puente se puede comprar.
Fantastic, unbelievable skill and fluidity... Only: I'd like to hear you do the full 3.5 minutes or so of this piece.. would be even greater!
Just Woooow!, I'm still trying to lift my jaw
Bravo
Your pinky does more work in one song than my whole hand in a day. Stop it or I'll get even more envious!
Holy crap🖤 so awesome!!!
You are wonderful!!! Eeerrrrgh 🤗🤩

how about the two of them do a video of the Bach concerto for two violins?

Pack it in, Sierra ... some of us thought we could play the mandolin!
Ohne Worte...Grüße aus Köln.
I love this!
AAARGH! B PART! NEED. TO. HEAR. THE. B PART. Beautiful beautiful beautiful
Amazing !
In person that can play one of the Bach solo pieces at tempo is a very good musician.
Perfect.
Wow amazing 👏👏..........
Too good aight! Bravo 👏

Like, Wow!
Wowza
I think you're a national treasure.
I wonder if she'll play this gigue and her next gig? :o)
Wow!
Awesome!!! : - D This one is playable on octave mandolin too and sounds pretty good (not as good as if you were playing it though!).

She has a superb pick technique.
Is that a mandala? Its an awesome instrument and you have quite a talent.
Ha! A mandala is a Buddhist art piece used in meditation. She’s plays a mandolin.
A medieval king would have paid you handsomely to play in his court and castle.
Keep it up, girl! 😉
You’re like one of those crazy guitar hero youtubers, but you know, able to play an actual instrument
I’m surprised the neck didn’t burst into flames.
I wish my practice sounded like that
See what a natural transition it is from Bluegrass to Bach?
It'd be quite something to hear you play Bach along with a big church organ
I’ve tried holding a pick like that, I haven’t had any luck with it.
So you over extend your thumb and use a fist to play with what looks like an angled pick slant thingy-I use the index/thumb only like George Shuffler/Clarence White technique flat to the strings. You do sound smoother though lol
I was watching and wondering if you might be paying attention to your chin. lol dont worry we all have double chin when playing haha
Only Chris Thile can compete with Sierra in the Bach mandolin sweepstakes.
Ekaterina Skirin?
Avi Avital
Do you have tabs
These youtubers never say where they got their tabs from
Du bis mich u mÖpke Sierra, on fire !!!!
I'm pretty sure that Sierra learned to master her instrument by watching my videos. Okay, okay... I'm just kidding. Maybe she learned what NOT to do.
OMG!
Bavro
so are you picking with your thumb?
almost Paul Gilbert kind of shred)
Yes- He did this song on his album 'Fuzz Universe' !
@@akshaychowdhry1 i know that:) im a huge fan of Paul

Pretty Mandolin and pretty first name you have.
Also great job. ❤👍👍👏👏
Apparently Bach had no need of breath...wheew!
Better than Avi Avital's version. I'm just sayin' (and, yes, we need more mandolinists in the world)
Love what you do Sierra!!

Palm mute is real here
any horizontally held string instrument requires it at some point for proper tone
@AlahuSnackbar i disagree, why would that be the case?
@@mikemcginn4232 runaway harmonics

Sierra is by far the prettiest musician today, it matches her playing talent.
ahhhh d minor!
Excuse me Sierra, I have to respond to The Young Turks.
